When you're Venthyr, you get out with this fellow for the Training callings, for example: 到昇靈堡受訓.
While out in the destination zone, he will sometimes dig up interesting items after combat.
He also sometimes grants you a special ability button that summons a giant by your side to help you in combat.

When he dug up something, he says: "Dredged up somethin' interesting over here, boss." so look for this text to appear.
Then you can click the sparkly little mud mount for some loot.

Free stuff!
He dug up all of this for me in one Bastion session:
- 鬼靈敏捷藥水
- 導靈者之速藥水
- 鬼靈法力藥水
- 水棲生物戰鬥訓練石 x5 or x6 (family type varies)
- 無瑕龍類生物戰鬥石 (family type varies)
- 雷瑟瑞骷髏鑰匙
- Some food items
- And a bunch of grey items.

The companion stays with you for as long as you stay in the 'training grounds' (the whole of Bastion).
So you can run around and collect free stuff for as long as you like, it seems :)

Source of the battle pet Lucy.

He dredges up the Dirty Glinting Objects which Lucy can be contained in.

It is not a 100% drop.

I did get mine the first time I had Drippy, however.

If you're looking to farm Lucy, this is what I've found: You can 'dredge up' something every ~5 minutes. Just keep yourself entertained and kill something every 5 minutes. I've been doing it most of the afternoon and haven't gotten Lucy yet, but I'm still going! Drippy will stay out even if your quest is complete (just don't turn in).
