I just got my coin from Elder Farwhisper. I tried some of the other suggestions here and they did not work for me. What I did was changed to Cat form and cast Prowl. I then went to the gate of the right instead of the left gate. The left gate has Plague Rats that will ALWAYS see you and attack. You can get up to the gate on the right and click it to open it and enter. You will have to click on the gate on the other side to get out again. Just follow the wall on the left and wait until the mobs move away and continue on until you get to Elder Farwhisper. He was at approximately 75, 20. The important things to remember when sneaking in and out is to be patient and wait for mobs to move on before proceeding, stay close to the walls as much as possible, and watch out for those stupid rats, they can ruin everything.

Ok.
So, if you have no idea where the hell "Festival lane gates" is (and I still have no idea myself), heres a suggestion:

- Keep right.

That's it. Enter, go right till you see the elder.
Done.

The zone maps are the issue here. There are 2 maps in this zone: "Crusader's Square" and "The Gauntlet". The elder is not located in Crusader's Square. He is located in The Gauntlet. When you go from one map to the other the coords change drastically.

When you zone in you will be on "The Gauntlet" map. The Elder is located at approximately 76.8, 22.0 on this map. As you near the Elder the map changes to "The Gauntlet" and as I said the coords will jump. On The Gauntlet map you will find the Elder at 50.19, 69.26 as shown here.

New for this year, some clarification.
This is confusing as not only is the map titled "Crusader's Square" but there is also an area within that map called Crusader's Square. While he is located on the Crusader's Square map he is NOT located in that area. He can however be found between Market Row and Festival Lane. He's at the top right hand side of the map, co-ordinates are (78.6/21.7)
When you enter the area, stay to your right and follow that around to the top, just a short distance really. Hope that helps.

Here are definitive instructions for Lunar Festival 2012, current game version 4.3.0.

-Main entrance of Stratholme in northwest Eastern Plaguelands (**NOT** Eastwall Gate).

-Walk in and follow the map, keeping toward the right side, killing whatever aggro's to you.

-Reach the end where it forces you to turn to the left.

-Giant beam of light at the inside corner, cannot miss it.

-You need no keys, just waltz in, destroy everything if necessary, get your coin.

I have included this easy to use map as reference.

If you kill mobs on your way to him, avoid equipping new items to add to your transmog collection, I did that and by equipping my old equip back, the game broke and closed.

Don't confuse this with the Culling of Stratholme in the Caverns of Time, Farwhisper is in Stratholme in Eastern Plaguelands.

Elder Farwhsiper can be found inside the Stratholme dungeon. (Do not use the side entrance.) The entrance to the dungeon is 27, 12 (Meeting Stone location) in the zone Eastern Plaguelands in the Eastern Kingdoms or look for the blue swirl on the map that indicates a dungeon entrance. Enter the dungeon and go forward towards to words "King's Square" on the dungeon map. At the junction, turn right and head for the set of 2 clickable gates, click to open both and continue. Straight ahead you will see the big permanently closed gate separating the 2 dungeons by Festival Lane. Go past this heading north, staying to the left side of the hallway and fountain. You will find him standing in the beam of light around the corner to the left nearest to the icon on the map for the boss The Unforgiven. Fastest way back out is the way you came.

Entering through the Main entrance DOES NOT port me into the Crusader's Square instance. Not sure if I'm experiencing a bug but regardless of which entrance I use in Eastern Plaguelands, I will only spawn into The Gauntlet instance. When I leave the dungeon it will always port me out at the Eastwall Gate entrance even if I entered through the Main entrance (which makes sense). I was playing on my level 70 Lightforged Dreanei Paladin.

As of 2/4/25 once you enter Stratholme, he's directly to the right of The Unforgiven. nestled in a corner.
