Comments:Chitara is of epic quality and yet a solo pet encounter.

Looks like the design is to destroy Chitara's shell with multiple hits to make it vulnerable to our pets' attacks. My understanding of the shell auras listed above is to remove 1 "layer" of the shell with every single hit. These hits are blocked as long as the shell is not broken. 1st small bug is a misleading tooltip of 破損外殼, both values are percent, so our pets deal 250% additional damage and Chitara double the damage. And all the shell auras' tooltips call this pet Chitana.

2nd bug is a bigger one cause it's breaking mechanics completely: If you apply a damage reflection shield on your pet like 不穩定盾牌 (side-note: buff and cast have different numbers for the reflected damage), Chitara will kill itself by spamming 痛擊 no matter if the shell looks completely untouched.

3rd issue is maybe intended, but I wouldn't like it. Right now you don't remove one "layer" of the shell (replace it with the next one) with one hit, instead it needs the number of hits listed in the shell's tooltip. That means you need 5 hits to get through that first layer, another 4 hits for the second layer etc. Overall you need 15 hits (that are blocked completely, this also means additional hits usuallly caused by Lightning Storm won't trigger) to finally trigger 破損外殼. And then Chitara is often the faster pet and deals double damage and will of course trigger 野獸 below 50% HP. On the other side your pets deal 250% additional damage and can oneshot Chitara with a variety of attacks.

For now I'm using 飛蛾球 to brake the shell as fast as possible, they do 5 hits and since they all are blocked it looks like the chance to miss is ignored. While it's on cooldown I use a filler like 風刃斬. I use 2 flying pets with these abilites and a mech in 3rd slot to do lethal damage with a 發射飛彈 or something like that.

With character copies available I could try much more stuff lately and discovered more interesting facts: Additional hits (that's what the bonus damage of this weather effect does) from 閃電風暴 won't happen as long as attacks are blocked.
So I wanted to try abilities that are applied to the enemy team like 極凍之寒 or 天降金幣 but they were blocked and no debuff applied and I didn't understand why. Then I realized this was only happening, when the 堅固外殼 was active. So it's looks like the first shell layer is also blocking teamwide debuffs. Speaking of 極凍之寒... it will try to chill Chitara every round and this will count as 1 hit on the shell, but as long as it is blocked, 霜寒刺骨 won't be applied/refreshed so no multiple hits that will wipe the shell in no time.

I wore him down with Chi-Chi, Hatchling of Chi-Ji. Just keep Tranquility up, and use Etheral as needed. When not casting either of those, use Fire Quills. I probably could have solo'ed him with that, but after I broke his shell I got impatient and one-shot him with a Tranquil Mechanical Yeti.

I used a Luyu Moth (2/1/1 / 289 speed) and spammed 飛蛾球.
Maybe I was just lucky, but I did that for a few rounds and won without any trouble.

Easy battle

First pet - Bone Serpent, nuking with Bone Barrage I was able to break both shells before the Serpent died.
Then I just continued to deliver only one hit with my Personal World Destroyer using the Metal Fist ability.

For some reason, it seems as if not every attack hits against this boss. As such, you may have several attacks where the armor doesn't go down by even 1 step. Even if you have 100% hit.

There doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason to it, either; I have attacked with the same attack once and had it not work, and another time and had it effect it.

Also, be aware that multi-hit attacks *can* count as multiple attacks.... but not always. So sometimes you'll get multiple hits in. Sometimes you'll get one hit in. Sometimes it won't take at all.

For all the people who said this is an easy battle, I'm finding it a sheer grind because of the RNG factor of whether the shell will actually be affected or not.

Clockwork Gnome 1/1/1 can *almost* solo (he was killed in the same turn as the boss for me).
Turret > Repair > Turret

Bring another mech with Batter or so as backup.

So apparently, it works like that:

First buff lasts for 5 hits (altough I believe abilities don't even check for hit/miss before striking block shield). After those hits, shield buff goes down and gets replaced by another, one requiring 4 hits.
Rinse and repeat, 3 hits, 2, and 1, and then finally you can actually start killing this thing.

Simple math, and you will need 15 hits total to get trough shield, so you should be using abilities hitting as many times as possible. Like 飛蛾球, hitting 5 times per use. Then just finish him off with single hard hitting ability like 故障 or even 力量奔騰.

You can solo this fight with Direbeak Hatchling (121).
Keep Ironskin up and use Falcosaur Swarm! until Chitara's at half health then use Predatory Strike.

Start with 小鋼鐵之星, use 上緊發條 ONCE.
Swap to 恐喙小龍隼, spam 龍隼群襲！ until the shell is broken, let 奇塔拉 kill the 恐喙小龍隼.
Use 上緊發條 with 小鋼鐵之星, 奇塔拉 should fall over.

You could probably fit a leveling pet in there too (start with it tho).
This tactic also works with level 1 pets.

How to solo with just 1 pet : Clockwork Gnome (Skill setup : 1.Metal Fist, 2.Repair, 3.Build Turret)
Its a bit of a dice roll but if you do NOT get stunned or critically hit it should work (two big "if"s i know).
Round 1: Build Turret
Round 2 : Repair (until repair finishes and heals it, the Gnome will probably die)
After the heal: The shell is mostly gone but still there. Build Turret (after the turret attacks, the protective shell should be gone and Chitara takes vastly increased damage while also dealing increased damage)
Final round Metal Fist and if you survive the last blow (with no crits taken, the Clockwork Gnome should be below 50 HP but alive even by going second in this round) you win.

Here is a quick way to defeat it . . . and to allow the Chitara to do all the work.

It turns out Spiny Carapace isn't stopped by the Chitara's shell. So you can do start doing damage right away.

Thus I put together a team of 3 Crabs with Spiny Carapace . . . I happened to have one Juvenile Scuttleback and two Sandyback Crawlers. All of rare quality - but two were just shy of max level.

For each Crab, I started with Spiny Carapace. My Juvenile Scuttleback chose "Dive" his second turn (which didn't hit the Chiara, but did delay for 2 turns so I was able to use Spiny Carapace twice which increased the effect). My Sandyback Crawlers cast Renewing Mists after they cast Spiny Carapace - which may have let them stay up one extra turn.

The Chitara quickly killed two of my three crabs, but just as quickly knocked itself unconscious upon our Spiny Carapaces.

I think the best strategy is to use three flying pets, each with a swarm ability. The first pet should break down the shield of Chitara before it dies. The second pet I use Jade Crane and use the shield ability before you use swarm to mitigate extra 100% damage after shield breaks. Chitara dead on second round.

Defeated this withh Terrible Turnip (Weakening Blow, Leech Seed, Sons of the Root), Corefire Imp (Burn, Immolation, Wild Magic), and Darkmoon Tonk.(Missile, Shock and Awe, Ion Cannon).

Opened with the Imp, Immolation, switch to Turnip, Leech Seed, then Sons of the Root. Immolation will strip a layer from the back row each round, as will leech seed. Sons of the root provides 2 attacks per round while protecting you from counter attacks. Once the shell is broken Ion Cannon from the Tonk will easily one shot Chitara.

Personally I used 小小拉格納羅斯 - used 烈焰之子. Swapped to a 'gimp' tank pet. Got what hits I could in (usually 2-3), Rag again, then finished with 溫斯頓寶寶 for a 1 hit smack down

plenty of better methods here, but another way to kill him without getting thru his shield is Spiked Skin pets, preferably high hp and attack pets.

I used antoran bile larva, ironbound proto-whelp, and discarded experiment. just keeping spiked skin up, and using ancient blessing and draconic remedy to heal while waiting.

but honestly this method is probably much less convenient than the others here

I was losing my mind with this one. After reading some comments here I loaded up Luyu moth, Lil Bling and a level 23 coastal sandpiper. Sent in luyu first, she did nothing! Sent in Coastal sandpiper for 2 rounds of Flock, poor thing was almost dead after that. Chitar had about half health. Last hope, i sent in lil bling for one Make It Rain and BAM, Chitara fell like a drunk uncle at a wedding. Hope this helps.

As many have stated it's quite an easy Solo Fight with any pet that has a move such as Falcosaur Swarm, Stampede, Moth Balls, etc. I used my Child of Jani who has Stampede and then my Direbeak Hatchling with Ironskin + Falcosaur Swam! once Jani was killed and beat this fight easily.

I just wanted to add in that using a leveling pet won't really yield much Exp. as my Level 9 Restored Revenant only gained 378 EXP once the fight was over. I wanted to test to see how it was since a lot of the battle pet WQ's generally give decent exp but I think the ones with the 'solo' critters/beasts are generally no-gos for EXP :)

Chitara is an epic level 25 野獸 with no backline pets and the following abilities:

Active:	痛擊頭錘倒鉤毒刺
Passive:	堅固外殼

Note 1: "Flock" abilities will quickly disable Chitara's passive. User Cinlailiel created a pretty comprehensive list (here). Others have had success with a 3-moth strat.
Note 2: Beast attacks are not as effective towards Flying pets, lending them more survivability.
My Team:

3 飛行生物 pets with 群聚攻擊 OR 龍隼群襲！, I used:

As the fight progresses, 堅固外殼 will cycle to 超堅固外殼 -> 有些裂痕但還是堅固的外殼 -> 快要損壞但還是堅固的外殼 -> 幾乎粉碎但還是堅固的外殼 -> 破損外殼.

vs. Chitara
群聚攻擊 or 龍隼群襲！
Repeat until Chitara is dead.

(Personally, I started with the Crane's 玉皮術 ability and refreshed each time 群聚攻擊 was finished. I'm not sure it did anything but add 2 rounds to the fight.)

I just used Bloodgazer Hatchling, Direbeak Hatchling, and Snowfeather Hatchling. I used the Bloodgazer's Swarm! ability until it died. The shell was broken by that time, and used a single Predatory Strike from the Direbeak Hatchling to one shot Chitara.

Key here is to get lots of hits in before losing your own pets.
I used the lil bling method but found you can loose pets or lose due to bad RNG and the weak dmg of the coins.

The 3 pets i use:
Clockwork Gnome with build-turret
lil Ragnaros with sons-of-the-flame
Lil-bling but I never get to use him

"Build turret" gives you 4 rounds of extra multiple hits while you can have other pets up.
After you build the turret swap out for Ragnaros and cast "Sons of the Flame".
The sons deal damage along with the turret and you take no damage for two rounds.
I usually find the Mechanical damage of the turret enough to finish off things due to the extra damage it does to beasts.

This method you never loose a pet.

Two pet leveling strat: This should be a very reliable strat that generally completes in 6 rounds, but can be forced to 10-11 with bad rng.

Disclaimer: I realize this doesn't give great xp as it's a single enemy. Nevertheless, level 1 pets bump up to level 4 with a Safari hat so it's useful for getting level 1 pets out of the death zone for some other battles.

Slot 1: Any pet with a 2 round blocking ability will work. Ideally, this pet also has a reflect damage ability to handle bad rng. Ideal examples are 鬼靈刺蝟 (?, 2, 1), 雷尾水狸 (?, 2, 2), and 雷擊海狸 (?, 2, 2)
Slot 2: Any leveling pet. Level 1 is fine.
Slot 3: Any pet with a solid reflect ability. 火焰之盾 is really strong, but 閃電之盾 and 不穩定盾牌 are great choices as well and much easier to find. 微能魔像 (?, 1, 2) is ideal because he has two reflects, but any pet with a high damage, two round reflect works fine.

Turn 1: Barrier Ability. You will take one hit here
Turn 2: Swap to Carry Pet
Turn 3: Swap to Slot 3
Turn 4: Reflect Damage Ability (For example, 閃電之盾)
Turn 5-6: Pass. If he 痛擊 twice, he's probably dead. A 頭錘 during this generally causes problems.

If not he's not dead yet:
Turn 7-?: Pass until your 3rd slot dies
Next Turn: Swap to Slot 1
Next Turn: Reflect Damage Ability

Worked easily with the Crow from Darkmoon . My girlfriend found that only using Murder from the Crow does the trick,then Chitara can be finished off with the Molten Corgi or any other pet.Seems the Crow has better odds than most at breaking him down faster,provided you don't get stunned.
Chickens also work well against him.

Thank you for suggesting the clockwork gnome. Used turret and after a few tries of him blocking me, it finally killed him. I didn't even have to use my other two pets.

For Dragons Make Everything Better achievement I used the following team:

Untamed Hatchling (x,2,2)
Iron bound Proto-whelp (x,2,1)
Discarded Experiment (x, 1,2)

Just keep Spiked Skin up and use healing on cooldown......Chitara basically kills himself.

How Chitara's "attack-absorbing" shells works has been reworked, making most every comment here basically outdated.

It used to lose a payer of protection for every attack or volley of attacks absorbed... So Lil' Ragnaros's "Sons of the Flame" peeled off two layers etc

Now, all the damage from any ability takes off just one layer. It is really bizarre and pointless.

Build Turret still takes off one layer every time it attacks so, it seems like this was a nerf meant to reward people with Clockwork Gnomes and punish everyone else? Which, I mean, it makes things very simple I suppose. Not in a good way, but it's REALLY simple in a sense, like whoever came up with this idea must have been simple too

Some of the strats here still work but, in truth they are all outdated, written for when "Mostly Unbreakable Shell" functioned differently

I am surprised nobody has updated this with a new strat yet

Well the easiest way to deal with Chitara, at least for me are(in patch 8.1.5):

By using a Electrified Razortooth, which can be caught at lvl 23 at Isle of Thunder and it also have only one nature which makes it quite easy to get hold of a Rare quality one.

Turn 1: Activate Lightning Shield.
Turn 2: You might aswell pass.
Turn 3: Chitara kills herself on your Lightning Shield.

Francois can easily solo quickly 9/10 times.
Make it rain
Flock
Make it rain
9/10 times they both die in the same round as make it rain finishes off chitara. 1/10 times you will get stunned and have to swap a pet in.
So for your other 2 pets any fast flyers will work.

Looked around on the Xu-Fu's strategies website. I've wrote below the details of the strat that worked for me.

Formation

1st: 伊奇 with abilities pre-set to 1-1-1
2nd: 奪日者微型哨衛 with abilities pre-set to 2-2-1
3rd: 機械熊貓人幼龍 abilities not too important as most of the time Chitara will be dead before you get to 3rd pet, any Mechanical family pet is also fine here.

Abilities

Just spam flock with Ikky until he's dead, you can also swap him out if he's still alive and Chitara's shields are all gone.

Use call lightning on your 奪日者微型哨衛

Chitara should be dead by now, but I got unlucky and had to finish him off with my 機械熊貓人幼龍

Stormwing - 212
Skywisp Moth - 112

Start with stormwing and Call of lightning, spam Flock til stormwing is dead
With skywisp refresh call of lightning and make sure to cocoon when shell falls so you don't die finish up with slicing wind to kill
Any pet with mech abilities as 3rd will ensure victory

I tried using Forest Moth with Moth Balls and Chitara just blocked every shot. I only had one other moth, A Forest Moth that was common, not rare. I used Moth Dust and One-shotted him at full health!

For some reason unknown to me, 焦土 can deal damage through the shield. So for those seeking to defeat this bad boy with only dragonkin pets (for achievement), you can use an 翡翠元龍 to turtle while keeping scorched earth up with 2 other pets. Bad luck can ruin this tactic, if your proto-whelp gets stunned.

Here's the setup I used:
奧妮克希亞的子嗣 (2,2,1)
翡翠元龍 (1,2,2)
紅龍寶寶 (2,2,1)

Start with 焦土 and follow up with 升空. And then just use whatever until the 奧妮克希亞的子嗣 dies.
Select your 翡翠元龍 and use 翡翠領域 followed by 翡翠夢境.
After the dream ends, switch to 紅龍寶寶.
Use 焦土 and then 升空 (probably will die before lift-off, that's fine)
Back to 翡翠元龍 and just keep your shield up and use 翡翠夢境 as needed until you've won.

As of 4/15/19 I found my lineup of Fel Flame, Blazing Firehawk, and Electrified Razortooth takes him down. Get him burning, and keep him burning until the shield drops. Finish him off with the Lightning Shield damage.

Soloed him with Direbeak Hatchling 1-2-1 Ironskin - falcosaur swarm - predatory strike, ironskin on cooldown, swarm eventually breaks through his shield and predatory strike will finish him off.

I used an (S/S) Wildhammer Gryphon Hatchling, a leveling pet, and an (H/H) Menagerie Custodian. I put the notes of what to do in the Rematch Link that's included below.

Two days into 8.2 and this guy is real screwy. I've hit it for 3 rounds and it still says he needs 5 more attacks to break his shell. Seems to take 5 turns for his shell to begin to lose stacks.

Anything multi-hit is optimal.

Flock/Murder/Swarm abilities, Moth Balls, Nut Barrages, etc. etc.

By far, the best option is Clockwork Gnome. Whether you go Turret > Repair > Turret or Turret > Fist > Fist > Turret, Gnomey is usually enough to kill Chitara by itself.

If you need a backup pet, presumably because you don't have Clockwork Gnome, Mechanical Axebeak's Decoy + Haywire will take a huge chunk of health out once the shield is broken.

Someone stated that scorched earth and shields that do damage are able to get through Chitara's shell, so I grabbed my Onyxian Whelpling, Stormstruck Beaver, and a Giant Woodworm. Started with whelpling and cast Scorched Earth followed by filler attacks until it died. Brought out "Beavie Wonder" and put up Lightning Shield and just did filler attacks until Chitara killed itself. The Giant Woodworm had the Unstable Shield ability but I didn't need it. There are woodworms all around that area in case you need a pet with a damage dealing shield by the way.

For me, the only skill that mattered was 閃電之盾. Used it immediately and watched 奇塔拉 burn itself down. I'm not sure why 閃電之盾 works so well compared to other skills that I used prior to the 堅固外殼 change, but it seemed to do the trick.

My Servant of Demidos died right as 奇塔拉 was defeated. I would imagine anyone who has to move on to their second pet would only need one more attack to win the battle.

Weak against Flying, takes extra damage from Mechanical.

If you're just trying to get this fight done for a world quest, using level 1 pets would be the easiest route.

I'd line up a Flying pet in first and second, and a Mechanical pet third.

Chitara will have two phases of armor to fight through before taking any damage.

For the first phase, you will have to remove 5 "stacks" of armor. In this phase, it seems like doing 1 attack removes 1 stack. Ezpz.

For phase 2, you will again have to remove 5 "stacks" of armor. I'm not certain on this, but it seems like only attacks that Chitara blocks which show the shield symbol will count. (Though, if you brought 2 flying pets, you should be able to fight through this fairly easily.)

For phase 3, Chitara can take damage, and even takes *more* damage than usual. One Mechanical attack at this phase will usually one-shot me into a victory.

i simply set up a team of lvl 1 flying pets (just a suggestion, but I think their resistance to beast damage is crucial to winning this fight).
winning regular lvl 25 fight against this guy can be a real challenge depending on how many pets you already have collected and which of them might be the right ones for this fight - but when you use a Lvl 1 team, it gets a lot easier 👻
just destroy his nasty Unbreakable Shell first. it will cycle thruogh Mostly Unbreakable Shell -> Slightly Cracked, Still Unbreakable Shell -> Busted Up, Still Unbreakable Shell -> Nearly Shattered, Still Unbreakable Shell to Broken Shell, with this active, he takes huge damage from all damage types.
just make sure that your pet's first attack does a reasonable amount of mechanical damage (best option), but other kinds of damage will also be ok once his shield is gone.
the winning pets will get a good amount of xp after the fight and eventually level up (speaking of a lvl 1 team).
so it might be a good idea to find a nice team of easy-to-get pets, gather some clones of pet number 3 and simply replace it with a fresh lvl 1, to make sure your enemy doesn't unlock it's next ability --> ❗this is the case as soon as one of your team is level 2 or higher❗ this way you're able to maintain 'easy-mode'.
pet number 3 is usually the only survivor... but if you're lucky and the enemy is almost down while your pets nr. 1 or 2 are still alive, punch him until only one or two attacks are needed to kill him. then start using the 'pass' button to let him kill all pets that were involved in the fight and therefore qualify for XP. finish him with pet nr. 3. always put the cheapest / weakest pet in slot nr. 3, this way you only have to find a replacement for one easy-to-get-pet 😛
💡- works for any level-scaling pet battle, just chose the right type of pet / dmg / resistance for each fight -💡

I just happened to hit Chitara with Savage Talon today. After I did, it had a 5 round cooldown.... as in wtf? I hit with the other ikky i had to test and sure enough another 5 round CD. No issue as the other spells are the actual workhorses, but I could find no info on a debuff. My very next action was with Ravenous Scalespawn and Savage Talon worked normally again. If anyone sees something I've missed, please comment, thank you :) .

Have to check again on another char, but it seems that the staple "attacking 1-2/1-3 times" abilities of Flying pets only count as one attack per round.

So since shadowlands any attack that places a dot or multiple hits per turn no longer work, see below various attacks attempted, most of these have no effect at all, some may take one defensive stack at the end of the attack or every other turn

Tried the following with no luck

Slicing wind - has no effect
Flock - maybe 1 stack of defence of per turn
Make it rain, first attempt blocked then later might take 1 stack every other turn
Quills - has no effect
Thrash - has no effect
Cyclone - blocked, no effect
Wild winds - blocked, no effect
Alpha strike - blocked
Stench- blocked but appears to take first stack
Egg barrage - First attempt blocked, second attempt appears to take 1 stack every other turn
Fire Quills - no effect
Sons of root - takes one stack when finished

The only attack that appears to consistently take of a stack is Build Turret, that only takes one per turn not one per hit.

Also finding that some normal attacks do nothing, likely those that have a secondary effect such as a buff or debuff

Also it looks like you can only take one defensive stack of per turn, so build turret with metal fist only reduces the stacks by one.

There might be a bug or maybe you need to do more than a certain amount of damage as some normal attacks don't work either.

So far only pet that consistently can win is clockwork gnome, metal fist and turret, but likely you need a second pet to actually kill Chitara as the clockwork gnome usually only manages to take down the shield.

Edit - just tried a moth with Moth balls, that takes the shield down but still slowly 1 stack per turn

Otherwise this fight is totally broken, it's hard to work out which attacks will or will not knock of the first stack.

Experiment 13 also has turret which works as well.

Note: you only appear to be able to do the quest once per day per alt, you can't fight Chitara after you have defeated this pet battle.

XP for levelling pets is minimal, 200xp for a level 24 pet.

I'm sooooo confused. Here I was expecting a tough fight and decided to put my rustbolt clicker up first (highest health with flock or hunt) speed of 276 do she went first.

Clucker had1222 health left out of1530? I'm happy, just confused.

use Ironskin when you can and just do Falcosaur Swarm until his shield is gone, and then finish off with Predatory Strike.

Better Strategy then my first:
Stormwing - 2,1,2
Poro - 1,1,1 (Bush Chicken w/flock works as well)
Direbeak Hatchling - 1,2,1 (any pet w/Predatory Strike should work)

Start w/Call Lightning then flock until Stormwing dies
Bring in Poro, peck until he dies (could use any pet w/decent HP that can knock off rest of chit's shield)
shield should be gone, bring in Direbeak & finish w/Predatory Strike.

This guy is bullspit had one match where he's constantly critical hitting ME, constantly stunning, constantly doing 2~3 hits each turn. Always moves first. Jebus.

Addendum:
Start with any bird that has Flock. Anklerender (Beast) with Hunting Party won't work because he'll die quickly. Birds would survive long enough to keep using Flock. Don't use anything else until Flock tears off the armor. Then I 1-shot finished it with Iron Starlette.

Addendum 2:
Use any pet with Flock, Swarm, Stampede, Inflation, etc. No need to waste turns on debuff/buff. I used Ikky and 2 Chitterspine. Sometimes with RNG, Ikky soloed it. Other times two pets died and the last one finished.

Clockwork Gnome with Turret is the easiest. My gnome died, but Turrets finished the fight before I had a chance to switch to the next pet.

Sandstorm bam it killed him

My third pet was blue clockwork rocket bot but didn’t need him. Had him just in case.

Chitara seems bugged right now, most hits suffered don't actually break its armor. Expect to take far more than five hits to break it.

I beat it by stalling for time with an Emerald Proto-Drake Whelp, then finished it off with a darkmoon tonk and an iron starlette. I barely beat it because I got hit by some unlucky crits.

I did the shell breaking part with Shrine Fly because I don't have many max level pets yet so none with Flock, closest I had was Swarm-- used Swarm repeatedly until shell broke. Then i initially switched to Iron Starlette thinking I could at least survive enough to do the big combo and one shot him... NOPE he destroyed Iron Starlette... So i was only left with Anubisath Idol and somehow Anubisath Idol's Sandstorm one shot him. Works for me.

If you take a look at the tooltip of its buff, it's say "damage reduced by 100% until at least x attacks have been made"
After 5 hits "Unbreakable Shell" turns into "Mostly Unbreakable Shell."
Another 4 hits later that turns into "Slightly Cracked, Still Unbreakable Shell."
3 more hits and it becomes "Busted Up, Still Unbreakable Shell."
2 more and it's "Nearly Shattered, Still Unbreakable Shell."
and then after one more that turns to "Broken Shell", which also increases the damage taken by 250% and damage dealt by 100%

For me a Forest Moth with Slicing Wind, Cocoon Strike and Moth Balls did really great and took him down solo.
It was mostly Moth Balls as Slicing Wind seems to be bugged in this case. I think it can only hit more than once if it successfully hits a first time. At least I've never seen it hit more than once while the shell was up but it instantly hit twice when it broke.
