For hordes: If you're starting herbalism and you're looking for a couple kind of plants + leveling, I recommend you to go to Silverpine Forest.
I've been leveling my proffesion to 1 'till 75 finding a good quantity of silverleaf (lvl 1), peacebloom (lvl 1), earthroot (lvl 15), mageroyal (lvl 50) and even briarthorn (lvl 70), just follow the roads and will be pretty easy to find them.

I've found a few in Ashenvale. Even it is a small map, you get about 2 stacks from 1 run and you can spot them easily (in about 20 minutes). The route is pretty simple: up and down, down and up and you repeat this.
PS:farmed with druid with flight form and highest mount skill

As of 5.4, Hillsbrad Foothills is still the best place to farm for Mageroyal and Briarthorn. Be sure to bring empty bags!

This is a Horde zone.

Here's the zone that will primarily have the most competition for you, whether you're alliance or horde. Why? Because it nets you the most of this herb (among others) in the shortest amount of time. Also, you usually cross by several rares that may yield good transmog drops.

On another note, you can mine, herb, and find rares all at once. Certainly a big bonus, this zone.

During specific seasons (or a season) in Hillsbrad, there are events going on, which just adds to the population. To clarify, there's no need to feel like a population is a bad thing; the more people gathering, the faster the nodes respond for your convenience.

This is an Alliance zone.

Interestingly enough, I never seem to find much competition here, despite there being a ton of places to find this herb. The route also yields sporadic low level herbs, but not much. The only annoyance would be the craters of the land, but that's mainly a hindrance to players with land mounts. It's not specifically for flying mounts, but they are best for this area.
