As of 4.3, these patterns are now a leatherworking-only world drop in Tanaris.
They will not drop for you if you don't have leatherworking or if you've already learned the pattern.

The drop rate is much higher than listed, I'd guess it's somewhere around 5 or 10%. (Took me about a half hour to farm all 7 patterns).

I am farming skinnable mobs and the Rocs exclusively. Have 6 of 7 in a couple of hours of happy farming. The 蠍殼 drop off non-scorpids thankfully but I still have nowhere near sufficient for if and when I make the "set".

Whether the patterns drop off humanoids or other mob types I wouldn't know.

FOR THE LW SCORPID PLANS GRIND

-Never buy those patterns on AH, it's an easy farm for Leatherworkers. (1 1/2hr max for all plans)
-Each plan will drop one after the other; you don't loot twice the same pattern.
-逐潮者 are the most abundant and they respawn faster then all other creatures found in Tanaris that gives those plans.
-My estimate it's about 40 to 60 kills per plan.

An essential macro to get to mobs faster in water ( MOUNTNAME= replace it with wathever flying or waterwalking mount you have):

/cast MOUNTNAME; MOUNTNAME;MOUNTNAME
/dismount

Mobs are so spread apart it's hard to get out of water fast so you will need this macro.

I like to complete tradeskills as much as I can and at some point I'd set one of the BOE versions of these recipes in my AH favorites of my LW. Saw one today for 200g but noticed that the TSM average was insanely high so looked into it and learned the BOEs no longer exist, but easy enough to get the recipes as BOPs. Bought it anyway, plus another cheap one I found just for collector items to maybe resell, or in case my impending BOP farm turned out to be annoying! I already had a couple tough scorpid recipes learned probably from pre-cata so didn't need all. Anyway, off to Tanaris!

I was able to collect 5 I was missing in about 30 minutes mostly from 逐潮者. Don't think was even 100 kils. For each drop I usually would learn the recipe shortly after it dropped so not sure if there is duplicate protection if you have one in your inventory, but I got no duplicates (and got BOP versions of the BOEs that I still had in my mailbox). I did get one of the drops from a rare while doing a lap around zone to check each of those spawn points. The rares may have a higher drop rate but one data point not particularly meaningful. Each also drops a green that might want or can sell for transmog so I think worth making a loop to start off before settling into a preferred farming spot.

I killed striders on a rogue with +45% natural speed due to talent and some speed set gear, plus Sprint and Grappling Hook for extra movement, so probably faster than some classes but presumably many LW are druids or DH and get around just fine. I used some 水上行走藥劑 to take advantage of my extra speed and since both swimming or mounting between mobs is annoying. The striders would respawn faster than I could clear them so never really had to stop. Somewhere else could be better due to higher density and not having to deal with the water but these worked out very well.

Something I found and did some consistent testing on is that if you do fly on your mount from mob to mob if you kill your target with an instant ability while still airborne you'll of course dismount, land, and loot. But then you are usually still stuck in combat for several more annoying seconds before you are able to remount. However if you touch down just briefly before using your ability combat will end almost immediately after the mob dies and you can remount and move to the next mob.

Whether or not any particular mob actually has a high drop rate than others is harder to say. The drop % for any looks extremely low because only LW actually see the drops but is likely at least 5%. Different patterns each have their own "best mob" but my guess is they're all pretty similar.

As of 11.2.5 I have discovered a far more effective and speedy way of farming the following patterns;

You do need to be a LW for these to drop and the drop % is way higher than wowhead would have you believe as a result of how many non LW's have killed these mobs historically.

Firstly, go to /way #71 36.95, 22.37, and you will find 5 rows of Shallow Graves surrounded by Sandfury Zombie
upon opening all the graves and killing the zombies, the mobs instantly respawn allowing you to loop back and kill them again.

Unless i was extremely lucky, you do not get duplicates of the same Pattern once you have already looted it.

In total, all 7 Patterns dropped for me inside of 10-15 minutes of killing, along with some zone specific greens and world drops.

Ignore previous comments about killing Tidal Striders as they are far too spread apart and annoying to chain kill unlike the above zombies.
