BiS for resto druids and holy priests that aren't in 25-man raids. Pretty awesome for caster DPS as well, but probably should be rolled on by the healers first.

Better for resto druids or Arcane mages with T9 2p set bonus and Glyph of Molten Armor ?

I've become less sold on Spirit as a mage since I'll be losing my 2 piece bonus soon enough and it'll be returning to spirit being worth 55% crit rating and no 70%. It's a nice staff that I wont pass on if someone else wants, but I'm aiming for more crit and haste. Especially with mages 2 piece bonus meaning we use Missle Barrage right away instead of waiting till 4 (so more mana effiecient).

I can't see why a resto druid or a priest should roll over a Moonkin.
The stats are awsome for the big bird.

This is pretty good for a Boomkin as well as a resto Druid. Properly gemmed and enchanted it offers a whopping 824 spellpower in form, (actually more than a 251 wep and 245 OH combo) and the masses of haste means you can probably afford to swap over a couple of other items from haste to crit to make up for the fact that this doesn't have any. All in all a win - win item for caster Druids!

(Though I'm not sure I'd want this if I was a disc priest...it may still be an upgrade though)
As disc this staff isn't the best. Around ICC levels of gear mana is a non-issue and disc so the spirit is of very little use. The problem is in ICC 10 there is no better choice. The 1H weapons also have haste and mp5 and there is no off-hand from ICC 10 for healers. And with the other weapons not having any gem slots for spellpower gems, this is the best weapon from ICC 10.
Its almost perfect for every single class, discipline priests should be farther down the line. It is just to big of an upgrade for holy/shadow priests, mages, warlocks, and boom/resto druids to be giving to your discipline priest first.

It is simple for everyone to do post after post saying it is good/great for X class with Y spec. Thats great and all but if someone is unsure of the stats they need for their own class/spec that should become a bigger concern then if they should get it. Just my opinion.
So keep it simple. (excluding the basic start of ... "can you use a staff?")
Are you a Healer?
-Yes
--Is spirit a hugely important stat used while in combat/casting?
---If yes then compare stats to your current weapon. Is the Spell Power an upgrade? Is this amount of Haste in addition going to be over kill or not (Cast time vs GCD, when you cast faster then GCD with normal buffs, on most of your commonly used heals...).
-No
--Is spirit a hugely important stat used to buff your damage output?
---If yes then, can you still meet the hit cap after changing weapons?
---Will you lose spell power, or crit by equiping this weapon? Will the amount of spirit help off set the loss?
Just food for thought.

I got this one yesterday (although I was in Disc spec). I am going to enchant it with +81 and socket it with 2 - 23 SP gems (yes I will loose the socket bonus). My other option was to use Royal Dreadstone and get 12 SP & 5 MP5 but since I got my mana issues, I am going to stay with 23 SP.
Will be pretty good for my holy spec. The haste & spirit on this staff is very impressive.

In fact, for warlocks, if using
Glyph of Life Tap
,
Fel Armor
, and
Demonic Aegis
, this staff provides ~864 spellpower after
gems
and
enchant
; not to mention all of that delicious haste! /drool
Compare that to, say,
Frost Needle
+
Scourgelord's Baton
, which end up being 814 spellpower after enchant.
Just...wow...love this staff.

As a poster above me said, people are always going to be "this is best for this class." This staff is great for most healing classes due to a large chunk of spirit, haste, and spell power. The only healing class this wouldn't work for is Shamans as spirit is pretty much a dead stat to them.
This also works out being BiS (for those that run only 10 mans) for almost every caster (if not every caster) dps. The lack of hit is wonderful, especially at these high levels where hit is more than abundant. Scourge Lords Baton has hit on it which ends up being a wasted stat for most casters at this point. Again, for the same reason this is good for healers (the hefty chunk of spirit and haste) this ends up being good for dps as well. With most Mage's entering ICC with a two piece T9 bonus (with glyph of Molten Armor, end up being 70% of spirit converted to crit rating) and the haste, this ends up being great for Arcane. With Warlocks taking sp from Spirit as well, this ends up being a huge bonus for them.
End of story, due to lack of hit healers want this, but dps do too thanks to the plethora of hit that Blizzard has provided this late in the game. The only classes/specs this isn't really good for is Elemental/Resto Shamans as Spirit is a wasted stat. In PuG's expect all your casters to roll on this, and in guild runs people are going to be willing to spend a lot of Ep/Gp whatever other loot system you use on this.

* PvE
hit(until capped)
L2Read tbh, if you're hit capped as a caster there's no advantage to stacking MORE hit rating. So I'd say the little chart thing's fine provided you've got the intelligence to interpret it properly.
As for going on about spirit allocation for classes, you're really just nit-picking and looking for any sort of arguement to make. As it's been stated several times on this page, this staff is good for all caster classes, and isn't necessarily prioritised for healers only.

While this may not be BoS for disco priests, its certainly not a waste either. Disco priests (and many holy priests) get are spec'd to regen 50% of "out of cast mana regen" while casting. So, extra Spi helps in the ability for disco priests (and priests in general) to last through the longer fights.
Technically, (assuming the same level of progression) Midnight Sun from the airship battle with an offhand would be better for a disco priest... the problem is, there are few options of a new 'healer' (read: 'no hit') offhand frill...
It really looks to me that Blizz is pushing healers back to staffs...

Just to throw some facts into the whole (neverending) discussion about which classes should get which item:
This staff is BIS for every shadowpriest in all non-heroic raids except for the Lich King weapon drop.
While mages, warlocks and moonkins have other (better alternatives), namely Abracadaver and Sister Svalna's Aether Staff, this staff will still be the most desirable if you are hitcapped.
And just another truth (even though healers dont like to hear it) - no class should have priority on stuff like this but IF this were the case it would usually be better to give DPS priority because they rely much more on min/maxing their stats than healers.

People are attempting to rationalize their view for the sake of their own argument. In the world of iLevel 251 and 264 gear, all stats (to a degree) are fluid. Hitting the Hit Cap for DPS casters, of any class, is relatively easy. This makes haste, crit, and spell power the goals for all spell casting classes.
Assuming gem enforcing (which most won't do) and standard Spell Power weapon enchants, the standard 10 man gear configuration for healing Disc priests who run ICC 10 only is almost a wash. It really depends on your other gear.
Mag'hari Chieftain's Staff
Stam 97
Int 101
Spi 136
SP 769
Crit 0
Haste 136
Hit 0
MP5 10
Midnight Sun w/shriveled heart
Stam 113
Int 93
Spi 0
SP 798
Crit 51
Haste 96
Hit 0
MP5 28
Might Sun w/ Scourge Lords Baton
Stam 120
Int 120
Spi 0
SP 814
Crit 47
Haste 46
Hit 57
MP5 28
Take the numbers above and then add them to your current gear set and I think each class will find that they would take a different path, as individuals. This example is particuarly good as to why Blizzard is removing so many stats in Cataclysm. You practically need an advanced math degree to determine the most affective combination. Tools like RAWR are great for assisting people in decision making, but it seems like overkill to me to have to rely on them to play a game.

Does this this thing drop often? My guild FINALLY downed Saurfang-10 last night, but I got on my Warlock to give a bigger OOMF on DPS, instead of staying on my Resto Druid. The staff dropped, and so I didn't get it on my main. Which gave me a massive FML. So I'm just hoping it drops regulary.

Actually, if you're a warlock.. you'd have 39% of your spirit as spell power from Fel Armor. Why? Most warlocks who raid ICC most likely have
Demonic Aegis
in their talent tree. That combined with
Glyph of Life Tap
would make warlocks get a whopping 59% of their spirit as extra spell power. This staff is an amazing weapon for all warlocks, so please don't exclude us from the rolls. Thanks :)

According to my simcraft stat weights, this is 4th best in slot for 0/56/15 Demonology warlocks if they are hit capped. Gem slots are not calculated.

I don't agree with your philosophy fish...MP5 is not that useful to some healers. Holy priests are a great example. I've been playing one since WoW came out and MP5 used to be a good stat now it's all about Haste, Spirit, and Intellect.
When deciding on if healers or dps get to loot on an item you should first check all available loot in the raid. This staff also drops from ICC 10 and is clearly oriented for the dps classes.
So it's pretty obvious that this staff was meant to be a healing staff and they should always get priority over dps classes.

It's just sad that dps classes can't understand that high spirit items like this one
greatly
benefit spirit based healers, even though they can improve your dps a bit. Also, with so many dps items and all the hit around, what do you expect your healers to be using?
Dps always come up with something like: but I don't need hit rating anymore!
Well... Healers don't need hit at all. It will always be a dead stat for them.
What I see these days is dps rolling on
everything
... And healers gotta hang around with hit items till all dps have the healing intended items. =(

The calculation that Resto Druids receive 15% of their spirit as spell power is both correct and misleading at the same time. It's technically accurate, but keep in mind they also receive a 15% buff to their spirit (from talent), which then is affected by the 15% spell power. Thus 100 spirit gives them 132.25 spell power, instead of the expected 115.

Alright, I understand DPS rolling on this item, but I still think healers should get priority. Feel free to downrate me with the arguement "haha! newb! ur jus @#$%ed cuz u lost it to a DPs! xD", but my point is simply this: Most healers rely on Spirit as MP5. For those of you know don't understand this, let me put it in a simpler form. Spirit = MP5 = Mana. Healer with no Mana = No Heals = Dead Raid = No progression. Yes, I understand DPS is important, and the hit cap is so easy to get (lame excuse imo), but spirit is a MAIN healing stat for resto Druids. So, to summarize what I'm saying. Yes, DPS, feel free to roll on this item to increase your DPS. But, if it comes down to you gaining 4 SP and 12 Haste while a healer in your raid is still using a MH/OH combo from H PoS, then please let them use it.
edit for a typo

As stated above this is a very good caster staff, as a DPS caster being over hit capped by Improved faerie fire and/or misery becomes a huge waste, so most of the time this staff is the one to use, massive payload with no hit, if things get hairy and you lose your Priest or Boomkin mid fight, it being a weapon, can be easily switched out mid fight, to a less powerful + hit weapon.
That said, playing with a regular group, I would rather gear the weakest players first, if you have a good + hit weapon it's better to give your healers a strong boost than yourself a smaller DPS increase.

I see a lot of "this is a hunter weapon" up in this thread... the fact is, most people who are prepared raiders will have not only researched the boss fights, but also checked to see which bosses drop loot that is important to them. Nothing kills raid progress while contributing to being butt hurt more than 10 minutes of b*tching and moaning about loot after a successful boss attempt. Know what is BiS from that particular raid tier (i.e 251-258 for ICC10) and focus on working towards downing the boss that drops your loot. If it's not a BiS, but it's an upgrade to what someone or a few people have, then DPS or healer who cares, every boost to the raid is great. If it's
kinda
and upgrade and you can't decide who gets it...shard the damn thing or free roll 30g and keep moving. Gratz on downing the first wing of ICC :D

+97 Stamina
+101 Intellect
+136 Spirit
now it has only spirit/ stam? I still have this on my boomie/ resto druid and cannot understand the reason for this change.
