I've found that these leg plates are a tricky part of the gear puzzle.

On one hand, these have a ton of expertise rating. So this piece could be a great place to pick up expertise if you're short on it.

On the other hand, it's got a ton of expertise rating. So much so that it could easily send you way over the melee DPS cap (26 expertise when attacking from behind), thus making it a wasted stat.

Compared to Thassarian's Legplates of Conquest these are a decent upgrade in terms of raw stats (see comparison here). That said, you stand to lose a good chunk of armor penetration by switching to these.

While the expertise rating on these might be useful to some, sticking with the T9 leg armor and picking up other T10 pieces with your Emblems of Frost might be a better route for most people.

If you can afford it, purchasing or crafting Legplates of Painful Death is likely to be the better deal in the long run.

I'm trying to figure out how to gem these. I usually put a Nightmare Tear in my pants to enable my Meta, but which slot should it go in? I suppose I could put the Tear into the blue slot, then use an Inscribed Ametrine in the yellow socket, and enable the bonus.
