Science lesson everyone!

Dark matter, as you have described it, has nothing to do with energy conversion. Dark matter is matter that cannot be detected by any means at this time, except from its gravitational pull. (Galaxies gravitational rotation, for example).
As everything we can see, a comp, a chair, regular mass and matter is thought to be about 4% of the total mass of the universe, dark matter being nr 2 with about 22% of the total mass and nr 1 is dark energy with its wooping 74%. But all this is very theoretical ofc.

What Jawbreaker33 described is, in fact, Antimatter. If regular matter and antimatter would collide both would be annihilated, and the energy released would be the strongest energy source that exist. (Einsteins relativity theory E = mc^2)
Picture this, 1 kilo antimatter vs 1 kilo of "regular" matter; (1 * ((2,99*10^8)^2))*2 = 2E16 (20000000000000000) Joule.
That is about 49 400 000 000 kilowatt-hours, all released in the blink of an eye = one heck of an explosion.
as a reference; A house uses about 30 000 kilowatt-hours a YEAR.

Actually, the scientists at the LHC were able to produce a relatively stable chunk of antimatter last winter (2008). When they ceased maintaining it, its disappearance was not spectacular--more of a fizzle than a boom. This has put into question the relatively dominant theory that antimatter+matter=energy eruption.

That said, I want to know how any player would know that there was dark matter to be looted, since it should redirect the light that would be used to observe it in the loot window.

New theory: Dark Matter is capitalized like any other item in the game, and therefore could be a proper noun. This might just be some physicist's pet rock (and his 4 colleagues' rocks help to complete the summoning).
