The great thing about giant thrown weapons like these is that they "stick" to targets for a few seconds. You won't really notice it with little tiny axes (ala PvP weapons) but with stuff as huge as this harpoon it can be quite comical.
Hint: The item lodges into the target based on the position it is thrown from. If you time it right and jump right as you throw it, it's possible to get a "head shot" with the target having a javelin sticking through their head for a few seconds.

these harpoons have to be the biggest throwing weapon i've seen in game so far, and with Deadly Throw as a finisher it looks like an instant cast compared to the normal Throw you get in General.

I just finished getting exalted with the Frenzyhearts, and switched to the Oracles to get exalted with them, as well as all of the associated achievements. Once I complete that, and have hatched all of the pets and the Green Proto-Drake mount, I'm SO going back to the Frenzyhearts JUST to use this thing. It is by far my favorite throwing weapon, and short of one out of Naxx 25, no other thrown weapons really compare to it.

And even though I'm now with the Oracles, I'm still "using" the harpoon. However, I'm getting the red, "broken weapon" warning on the edge of my screen, and I'm pretty sure that if I de-quip it I'll never get it put back again. :-\

It IS still usable for the time being, though, so I can still put giant, pointy sticks through my enemies. :)

Nope, not usable. It's still equipped, but I'm not given the option to throw anything.

I guess it didn't take effect until after the dailies reset or after I logged out last night and back in today. Time to put this in the bank for a few months. :'(

Worth noting that this has the highest stamina of any thrown weapon currently in game, with the exception of Deadly Gladiator's War Edge (which only beats it by 2 and requires 1930 arena rating).

Very nice for PvP, easy to obtain and arguably better than the small damage bump you get from Lillehoff's.

But ... Everytime i use my Deadly Throw ability with it i also throws the spear into myself.

I don't know about you, but I'm gonna be one sad fisherman when this thing turns grey in patch 5.0.4. Not a finer sight than hurling a harpoon through your enemy's gut.
