In the cartoon, Splinter was a human that was mutated into a rat. It even shows it in the opening credit sequence:

From what I recall (it's been over a decade since I watched the show), Shredder either knew Splinter's sensei (I think they were in the same class) or Shredder killed him. In the comics (and the movies), Splinter was a rat.

You can use this on the baby pandas (洛洛, 萌萌) that hang out around the orgrimmar / stormwind portal to jade forest. One would assume they stay transformed until the weekly server maintenance. They will continue to wander, sleep and give out magic bamboo shoots when you /love them as usual.

So far I have found the best pet to use this on is a 有毒小廢泥 that has consumed it's 3 critters for the size buff, then had a biscuit applied. After trying about 20 pets, this was by far the largest. Next up was the soul trader itself, though it wasn't much bigger then most other pets I tried.
Make sure to have the wasteling eat it's critters before transforming, as it loses that ability once transformed.
Another interesting pet is the Argent Squire. Yes, you can turn your child pet into a fleshbeast and still access it's dialogue for the banners and possibly the other stuff, though I don't have the pony for him.
