The first post on here is about correct in my opinion. I got the quest and went to the little pond outside the aldor back entrance to nagrand and caught about 60ish fish with no "Worlds Largest Mudfish" i figured i wasnt at a lake so i went to the one directly north near the throne of the elements and same thing about 60ish fish no quest item yet again. I came on here and saw the first post so i went over to the Sunspring Post lake and on my 5th cast i got the fish.

Some quite extensive testing on PTRs showed that the World's Largest Mudfish could only be caught from Lake Sunspring and Skysong Lake. Further, the bobber actually has to land where the lake is called Sunspring or Skysong: Sometimes it looks like you are fishing from the correct lake, but you are actually fishing in "Nagrand" or "Garadar".

Started out in the water under Halaa, and then checked here and moved to Lake Sunspring.

Stood in the water in Lake Sunspring and fished for a bit and then finally, decided to kill one of the Murkbloods and stand on the docs. I finally caught it once I moved up to the doc, it still took me 30+ casts however to catch it, and roughly 15 minutes.

I tried fishing in one of the canyons first -- no luck after about 30 minutes. Went to Sunspring Lake and got it on my second cast there (just standing on the west side of the lake, not on the docks).

Unfortunately, it's all about luck. I went to the Sunspring Lake the first few days the fishing daily came out and got it on the first or second cast. Went there today and it took almost 60 casts to finally get the "World Largest Mudfish."

Have 470 skill here, spent an hour under Telaar with no catch, spent 10 minutes standing in the middle of Lake Sunspring fishing using waterwalk potion. Then I moved to the docks and got it on my 3rd cast. Looking at the map above I'm thinking that you can only catch it in the shallows of the lakes. Makes sense since it's a mud fish.

The quest itself says "lakes of Nagrand." Therefore u can only get this fish in Sunspring Lake and Skysong Lake.

Just caught one on the 20th cast just north of Garadar so they can in fact be caught with the bobber landing outside of Skysong Lake. According to where my bobber was landing I was in "Garadar".

It only took 6 catches in Sunspring. Don't waste your time anywhere else.

I also catched the World's Largest Mudfish in the Skysong lake. I first fished in Mudfish Schools, but that did not help for me. After quite a long time I decided to fish in the lake itself instead of fishing in schools. After 6 catches I had my quest item at skill level 480 (375+5+100).

I had 200 casts in all fishable waters in nagrand, fished from all positions ( Standing, /sit, /sleep) but must tell you I caught NOTHING! This fish is dead!

Caught him after another 150 casts in Lake Sunspring standing at the botton of the tree in the north-west.

NOTE: Fish seems uncatchable if in the Dark Iron Dwarf costume from the BRD Brewfest beer. 40 casts and nothing, then I removed the costume and caught the fish within 3 casts.

Confirmed that it does indeed drop from Skysong Lake... as stated earlier, make sure you're in the Skysong Lake mini-zone rather than Nagrand or Garadar. You can see this by looking at the zone-name above your minimap.

I got it after 15 minutes with 443 fishing and a heck of a lot of get-aways

As a priest I just fly to the middle of Skysong Lake and levitate in the middle. I usually end up catching it in < 10 casts. Such a quick and easy quest to do, love it when its the daily.

You need 395 fishing for Nagrand.

Sadly, if you ONLY have 395 (though use of lures, etc), you will be wasting your time trying. I literally just spent 10 minutes of "Your fish got away!" messages as a test of it. Better to save this until you have a bit higher skill so you don't waste time on unsuccessful casting.

I managed to catch the big guy with 302 (+125 rod and lure bonus) in fishing skill, in 10 tries. So its do-able but seems to require patience. That was at Skysong Lake. Didn't have to be right in the middle of the lake, I was on the wee strip of land just by the Throne of Elements.

Yea I caught him with 125+5+100 took only 10 mins. I fished right above the big tree so the water elemenatl wouldn't aggro. Very nice spot.

470 skill fished in Skysong Lake north of Garadar, few dozen casts with no luck.
Moved to Sunspring, got it on my 5th try. So even to this day, with nobody seeming to do that guy's dailies any more, if you do do it Sunspring would be the best choice imo

As proof that fishing skill level is of no influence anymore, I picked up this daily and went to Skysong Lake. My skill leveled from 194 to 201 (no lure or special fishing pole used) in the time but after 41 casts I fished up the quest item.
In that time I had fished up loads of Sickly Fish, Driftwood, Tangled Fishing Line and very few 'real' fish, yet the quest item still popped up.

It drops in skysong lake but as posted above your location needs to be "skysong" or "sunspring" not garadar or nagrand

Was lvl fishing as well as some others here. No special lures, just a +5 fishing pole and got him at 169 skill. Did start out at like 50s somewhere so I had spent a good length of time in that lake. Maybe WoW just felt sorry for me. :)

caught it at 150 skill in sunspring lake. No matter what skill you have there's always a chance you'll catch a fish, and it seems that when you don't catch trash, you have a chance to catch the mudfish. at least from what i can tell

Just confirmed it can also be fished from Throne of Elements itself (water elemental area). I was standing in area labeled generally "Throne of the Elements."

Confirmed at the lake north of Garadar. Got him on the 2nd cast (fishing skill 387 +30 from the pole) -- it should be noted he's NOT in a school of mudfish (or the pure water, or the bluefish). I tried fishing up mudfish schools for days trying to get this fish and he's just plain not there.

With my strong fishing pole (+5 fishing), a +100 lure, and my skill at 376, it took me about 10 casts to catch the mudfish in the Throne of the Elements. I think it's just my strange luck, considering I caught the Giant Sewer Rat in 2 casts.

At 665 Fishing @ lvl 85, still took me about 100 casts to get this fish. The Fishing Dailies in Dalaran and Org have progressive drop rates so this never happens. It looks like Outland didn't get the upgrade when WoTLK came out.

Or perhaps they wanted this quest to take a while sometimes.

Since many people are coming here looking for information on the 4+ patches, I want to point out that the following posted by timski is still accurate:

So please, don't do like me, who after many months of not doing the BC fishing daily, come back to this quest and say "I can't catch this fish". He is still very catchable, but as it was in BC and continues to be true. Your bobber must land in an area labelled Sunpring or Skysong Lake. Fishing in Skysong Lake while your location is still Nagrand will only lead to frustration.

Hey all: Just wanted to share what I found whilst attempting the quest.

Firstly I began fishing to the north of Skysong lake after about 50 casts I checked wowhead again and attempted another spot, more specifically it was the southern section of Skysong lake near the bridge. From these i caught the item in 1 cast, obviously luck but i'd definitely go there instead.

P.S Whilst your in Nagrand turn up your music because the Nagrand music is awesome.

Did like 60 casts southeast of slimyr lake nothing ,the quest says find your luck in Nagrand lakes went to Nagrand north east of gardar another 60 casts nothing went Sunspring Post 4 th cast got the fish.
In the bag from from reward found Toothy bucket :)

I took this quest when I had 253 fishing skill and I finally got the quest item when I hit 279. So for those that don't have 375+ fishing skill as many of the posts say it requires, don't give up... u can get it at lower skill levels if ur patient enough.
P.S: I didn't had any lure on just my +10 pandaren fishing pole :)

This is the single worst daily I have ever done. A few hours later, I've got nothing.
