If you need/want to farm these scales as a skinner, then the ones in Blade's Edge Mountains are the better ones, compared to the ones in Netherstorm.

They have same drop rate, but the Blade's Edge ones are 4-5 levels lower and there are more of them. You can hardly run out of mobs solo in Blade's Edge, where as in Netherstorm you can clear them all in no time and then have to wait 15 minutes or so.

I think that Netherstorm has a much better drop rate and more dragons, i gogt 32 scales in an hour there not sure about Blade's but from leveling i never really got any from there.

juat goo to war with the netherwing it WONT effect your rep with them and i found that its best if you go by tosley station in blades edge mountains to farm them

i am exalted with netherwing..so far, flagging the 'at war' box keeps me green with the netherwing--maxnar the ashmaw is the only one I have been able to kill--tons of mobs to deal with before him though. pain in the buttocks. if anyone who is exalted and has found somewhere to kill things that you can skin the dragonscales from, please let me know.

I farmed the Nether Drakes & Nether Dragons in the Celestial Ridge area (roughly 73, 40) of Netherstorm for a couple hours to get the nether dragonscales. In order to help with the boredom, I started tracking mobs vs. what they skin to, and came up with the following. (I lumped the dragons in with the drakes, as there just weren't enough to gather stats specifically for them.)

101 total kills (11 Nether Dragons & 90 Nether Drakes)
33.7% skinned to knothide leather scraps (86 total scraps)
23.8% skinned to knothide leather
42.6% skinned to nether dragonscale

Not horrible, I suppose. But I fail to see why Blizzard can't let some of these "specialty" leather items be a 100%. I can get knothide leather & scraps from just about every mob that I can skin in the Outlands. If they just want you to sink time into the game, look no further than the Primal <insert primal name> requirements for almost every recipe that uses these nether dragonscales.

Oh, well. Off to start farming my primals. guh

I just farmed thes for nethers in Blade Mountains, In 2 hours I farmed 111 of these babies, WOOT!!! I dont know if it was luck but was very lucrative for me today :D

Here's my little tidbits of information regarding these items.

After spending a couple hours farming both in Blade's Edge and in Netherstorm, I killed 167 dragons between the two areas.

In 167 kills, I got 42 Nether Dragonscales, 60 Knothide Leather and 162 Knothide Leather Scraps. By my calculations, that is a 25% droprate on the Dragonscales. Pretty close to the listed 30% and not too bad a grind. I also received four BoE greens and several gray quality vendor trash (not to mention the claw/fangs that drop from every dragon and sell for a little of a gold per stack). However, it's sad that so many of these are needed to level Leatherworking in the AWFUL 350-365 grind unless you are lucky with tons of people supplying mats for Riding Crops or Restist set blues, which just isn't likely.

Anyways, the grind isn't too bad if you have need for leather as well.

On the Arathor EU server I've only seen a few of these scales on the AH. About 35g each. Couldn't bother checking the AH every couple of hours so I just decided to grind all the Nethers myself for the Ebon set as well as the Netherdrake Gloves.
However, it's much easier to just grind them off the mobs. The skinrate isn't as bad either. 25%-30% is pretty much correct.
At one time I had about 6 of the scales in a row.

To make things a lot easier: Be neutral to the Netherwing. Put them at war when killing them. In general mobs don't add when you pull one. However, there are several larger dragons roaming around that actually do care about you attacking his kind.

Being Neutral helps in a way because none of the mobs will just jump on you while you're eating/drinking. And you can go afk for as long as you wish without being killed.

As a level 80 farming mats for leatherworking bags I found that the Lesser Nether Drakes were a decent choice for farming these. They are plentiful on the Singing Ridge in southern Blade's Edge Mountains and I required Wind Scales from the nearby serpents as well. As a result I simply flew from one end to the other of the southern ridge several times and soon had the amount I needed.
As a note the dragons that roam the area are normal now (if they were formerly elite) and are also skinable making them a nice addition to any pull you perform.

Another good place to farm these is from the Nether Drakes on the Celestial Ridge in Netherstorm as long as you haven't done any of the quests for the Nether Drakes to make them friendly to you. Currently my level 90 hunter can kill them & farmed 10 in about 5 minutes & there is no competition for them for quests like the drakes in Shadowmoon Valley.

I just tried to farm some more nether dragonscales with my lvl 83 worgen rogue leatherworker so I could make some more "bag of many hides". To my dismay I've found that I am now friendly with all nether drakes and dragons so I can no longer kill/skin them, presumably due to the quest chain I've been working on in Shadowmoon Valley that increases rep with the Netherwings. Now it appears that I can no longer get nether dragonscales unless I buy them on AH, or lvl up an alt to do it.
What a bummer!

Once you have a friendly (or better) reputation with Netherwing you won't be able to kill and skin any of the 被奴役的虛空之翼幼龍s in Shadowmoon Valley to collect 虛空龍鱗. But you may still kill, skin and collect them from Lesser Nether Drakes at Singing Ridge in southern Blade's Edge Mountains. All you have to do is open the reputation tab, click on Netherwing and check At War. Once you have done that they become neutral to you, making it possible for you to kill and skin them. You will NOT lose any rep that you have already built up if you do kill them.

In addition, just north of the Lesser Nether Drakes position are the 鱗翼風蛇s which you can kill, skin and collect 風鱗. This makes it an excellent spot for leatherworkers to farm mats (in particular mats for 拼接皮包.)

Skinning at 110 I found the best place was Dragonmaw Fortress. Killing the Enslaved Netherwing Drakes and Enslaved Netherwing Whelps. Although the drop rate is lower than in Netherstorm or Blade's Edge, the respawn rate is MUCH higher. I was popping them fairly quickly on my DK and there was always at least one up at any given time. No downtime waiting for respawns like in other areas. However this can only be done if you haven't completed the Netherwing questline on your skinner. Once you get the Dragonmaw disguise the mobs become friendly and you can't attack them or the drakes anymore.
