I'd have to say here, that this weapon is extremely powerful in the hands of a leveling paladin. The speed, 3.40, is pretty slow, as is the max damage high. This combination of slow speed and high damage is extremely powerful for retribution-specced paladins.

At level 20, when you can equip this bad boy, you get Seal of Command for your paladin. The proc of this weapon is basicly an extra hit, which can proc from your Seal of Command-procs which also are extra hits. Talk about bursts... you can definately 1-hit enemies of your level with this weapon, if you manage to crit them. Yes, the proc crits too!

I recommend you enchant it with something your pockets can handle, you'll use it for the next 7 levels atleast. If you have the money, get Lifestealing - it procs from white damage, SoC-procs, the weapons proc itself and Judgements (it steals 30 health from your enemy. It is rather overpowered for this level, and you have your Judgement of Light, you're immortal!). If you, however, don't... get +5/+7 weapon damage. It sure works nicely too. Or Fiery.

If you can get a hold of some Shadow Oil (which is, unfortunately, a bit rare these days) do it! Whats more cool, than even MORE Shadow Bolts getting thrown at your enemys face, Shadow Oil has a 15% chance of proccing and it deals 48-56 damage.

Corpsemaker is obtained from RFK and it deals alot more damage than this, but it doesn't have the cool proc though. I bet some people would like to have this OVER Corpsemaker, because they love to see those bursts the proc/SoC does. Enchant your Corpsemaker, it will last for a LONG time.

P.S.: Also get Glyph of Seal of Command - you will propably use it till level 80 - no, wait.. you WILL use it till level 80 :-)

TL;DR; VERSION: GOOD FOR LEVELING PALADINS - CORPSEMAKER UPGRADE.

The thing about this no one has noticed, or atleast not commented on, is that Duskbringer in japanese is Higurashi (which is a cicada). I just thought I'd comment on it since it is, after all, a katana. =)

This item was is no longer obtainable as of mid wotlk along with Necrology Robe and Gloomshroud Armor, it was a random drop from shadowfang keep earlier, if you are very lucky you might catch one unbound but they won't go cheap.

As of the date of this posting I received in game confirmation, this after countless hours of scouring the web for info to find out if this sword still dropped or not, and that news was the best news I could have hoped for! This sword does still drop in SFK so all you farmers just keep at it; that was straight from a GM that it still drops. YAY I for one know im excited lol =) Good Luck All

I can confirm that this item does drop again, as I received it on 1/4/2014. It is exceedingly rare by my estimation, however. I am farming SFK for Gloomshroud Armor and every zone drop besides this and Gloomshroud Armor has dropped multiple times by now. I don't count my runs but I've reliably estimated that I've done well over 400 runs by now and I FINALLY saw this item drop.

For comparison purposes, I've had 5 Shadowfangs drop, 6 Guillotine Axes, 3 Assassin's Blades and many, many others all before this item finally appeared.

In case it matters, it dropped either from the gargoyles that come to life or the patrolling group of 2 Frantic Geists that is nearby, as I did kill those three groups together.

Now if I could only get that Gloomshroud to drop...

Confirmed drop. After killing holiday boss, I ran through and killed mobs in the kitchen and adjoining room for the hell of it. It dropped.Didn't know about its rarity until I came here, and then noticed one selling on my server for 31k. Good luck all.

dropped in a few runs on trash at the first room, not sure if was in the corpse eater or geist, also dropped 2 face smashers and 2 witching staves in this room, and 1 of each and a black malice after killing grouped mobs at walden, less than 30 runs though, but im really into farm shadowfang before my wod trial turn to veteran

It drops from ANYONE in Shadowfang Keep. It has a VERY low drop rate, but for me it only took 3 attempts. Trust me.

I found one in August 2019. Unfortunately, I can't say for sure from which mob because I didn't catch the moment when I picked it up. I'm almost sure it fell out of Unstable Ravager since I found this item in the bags of my own alt with which I had recently made Shadowfang Keep during the leveling.

Got this item a week ago. It took me about 300 normal SFK runs before i got the item from a skeleton mob walking the hallway just after you kill the second boss "Baron Silverlane". So it does exist but truely rare.
