Still a wonderful attention-getter. Its duration is much longer than its cooldown - a single player can spawn three or more of these before the first expires.

The quest chain is faction specific, but the final reward - the Brazier of Beckoning - is not a quest item.

Therefore, a player can complete the Dungeon Set 2 chain, obtain the Brazier of Beckoning, then restart the chain on the other faction, and obtain this item - while still possessing the Brazier.

Even more interesting: the distiller is destroyed if the quest is dropped by the player, but the quest log clear that occurs as a result of a faction change does not have this effect.

I faction changed from Alliance to Horde and back to Alliance and then to Horde again (long story), and wound up with both the Distiller and the Brazier, and no quests in my log.

And I still pop it in raids all the time.

I just got mine today, and I figured I'd mention a few facts that haven't come up yet.

It's expensive to get, and expensive to use. But it's well worth it.
It lasts for 5 minutes. The effect is not just client side, meaning other players can see the effect.
Unlike the paper zeppelins, if they are not around when it is summoned, they will still see it when they get near it. (The zeppelins can only be seen by players that are in the immediate vicinity when it is spawned.)

But the device DOES despawn if the person who summoned it gets out of targeting range... Like a totem or pet.
It's not target-able, if anyone cares.
The player who summons it gets a buff while they are near it, called Ectoplasmic Distiller but nobody else gets it. So if people look around they can tell who summoned it based on the buff. Unless of course you stand outside it's range.
People of the opposite faction can definitely see it. (I set it down as my alliance and my brother on his horde could see it.)
It's usable indoors and outdoors.

It has no conceivable practical use. (Which is good news, hopefully that means blizz won't restrict it like they have a habit of doing.)

Spent several hours on this thing. It's wonderful. Setting it up in Dalaran instantly spawns a WTF crownd even at night. Totally worths it.

Fun facts: This thing can be used in battlegrounds AND ARENAS (!) if you want to confuse people. Very funny to see the other teams reactions when they ride out and see it there in Arena

This item received a major nerf in the last patch making it not so interesting anymore

The area covered is still the same but the blue stuff on the ground is barely showing now

ARGHHH FU Blizz always taking away the fun items of the game just created 40 goblin fuel and then noticed that there was barly any glow of the distiller thought my graphics setings mighta been lowered then realised it was nerfed grr.
