I am either very unlucky or for the recipe to drop it requires Function over form to at least be unlocked. I have looted over 150 caches and it has not dropped for me with 80 skill in engineering, but the Function over Form tree still locked.

In 20 days when I do have it unlocked I will try some more and see if I have any better luck, and post the results.

I received the engineering recipe after looting around 150 chests.

Currently my skill is 100 and my engineering knowledge points are assigned:
40 point Optimized Efficiency
9 points Generalist
5 points Explosives
40 points Function over Form
13 points Utility
20 points Gear
30 points Gears for Gear
40 points Mechanical Mind

The respawn time for each chest seems to be 1 hour after they were looted.

It seems there are 4 areas:

--Skytop Observatory - 1 chest seems to spawn in this area
--Dragonheart Outpost - 3 chests seem to spawn in this area
--Dragonbane Keep East - 3 chests seem to spawn in this area
--Dragonbane Keep West - 3 chests seem to spawn in this area

I say "seem" because I cannot 100% confirm this information, but these are the patterns I have noticed after hours of farming.

Been farming this from time to time, im over 400 KP with maxed 3 trees, still no luck after 150+ chests. Honestly i dont even know if it still drops.

Took me about 200 caches to finally get it. It might have been more. Gladly this schematic wasn't a needed scope.

Just managed to loot this before the siege event started on EU-Silvermoon, i don't wanna say profession knowledge had anything to do with it but for clarification i have maxed out " Optimized Efficiency - Mechanical Mind - Function Over Form " and explosives i just miss " Creation " and every tree will be maxed out, i didn't keep count but i would say easily 150-200 caches over the course of a week, good luck farming! ^.^

Well, RNG was gracious to me as after trying to configure Rarescanner to alert me for Djaradin Cache treasures (still could not get it to work) I received the schematic on my 6th box at 39/55 (Emberflow) in the Waking Shores on my first day of trying on my Engineer. I'm lv 100 Engineering, have the Function Over Form and Optimized Efficiency Trees maxed, and Mechanical Mind at 40, with Inventions at 19, nothing in Explosives or the Novelties Trees. Good hunting all!

It's been an amazing and fun couple of weeks farming this blue recipe for a green. Sure, it takes from spending time doing other things, like playing with friends, experiencing the game, accomplishing anything. And by golly my sense of trying to justify the time invested already by walking away with a success will likely make the future weeks wasted worth it. So, we'll farm it. Because we can take it.
