So you go to the the Runecarver, exit Torghast, go to 38.55, 28.84 in the Maw, approximately and fight Odarik and you get the memory. You go back to Torghast and visit the Runecarver again, turning in the memory to him. You are then given the "A Damned Pact" quest. Go back to Ve'nari to turn in the quest for "A Damned Pact." She gives you the "A Grave Chance" quest.

To know:
The last part, require you to have found a runecarver memory, then stand near the npc and right click it...it cannot be bought from players.
I got one from doing rares randomly...but was confused as how to use it or where to use it, but just stand infront of npc with rest of items in inventory , right click it...and quest can be handed in.

I'd like to shake whoever on the dev team thought it was a good idea to name this thing "Runecarver's memory" with no indication in the quest text that you had to get this specific one AFTER getting another one AND before getting any others. I spent 2 weeks stuck on unlocking the higher level crafting professions because I didn't know that THIS Runecarver's Memory was not the same as any other Runecarver's Memory.

As far as I can tell, your sequence needs to go something like this:

1) with your character at level 60 and your professions maxed out, kill a world boss (purple icon) and hope you get ANY Runecarver's Memory from it.
2) take it to him and right click it in your bag to feed it to him.
2b) (hopefully skip over the part I spent 2 weeks on, aka 'get frustrated because the quest text that pops up says 0/1 runecarver's memory and you think what you just did didn't count' followed by 'kill more stuff that should drop memories and doesn't')
3) when you have that 0/1 quest, go back to Venari and follow that quest chain to kill Odalrik
4) At that point Odalrik should drop this memory
5) take this SPECIFIC Runecarver's Memory back to the Runecarver to watch the cutscene and get your professions unlocked
6) go back to Oribos and get trained on your professions again

I want to add something real fast. For people confused about what these memories are, they're the ORANGE legendary memory drops. I was running around thinking this one for the quest was some white useable quest item that dropped randomly in order to use it to unlock the ability to use the orange memory drops I've been getting. No, the memory you need is the actual memory for the first legendary you'd like to craft. I was so confused for so long. Take the piece of gear you want, the two missives, and whatever orange legendary memory you want to craft and use that memory in front of dude.

If you are looking for the runecarvers memory for the quest "最後的拼圖" then this page might throw you off.
WHAT YOU ACTUALLY NEED: A legendary drop from whatever spec, you take it to the 符刻師 and use it, that will give you the completion of that objective.

(I got my healing legendary from Lord Chamberlain and "learned" it at runecarver to complete this quest)

Ok guys this may be a game changer for this quest. I've had the quest and have killed loads of random world bosses and got no memory (much like alot of others I've seen), I did however, notice that for 1,500 honor you can BUY a memory in Oribos! Took me about an hour grinding battlegrounds to get 1,500 honor and Viola! Purchased the memory, went to Torghast & used the memory next to the runecarver and the quest updated.

I hope this helps people because it was doing my head in!

There are TWO different items named "Runecarver's Memory" for two different quests, (ik, not confusing at all, right?). The Runecarver's Memory for the quest Reawakening can be obtained by killing Odalrik in the Maw (at /way38.6 28.8), with a 31% drop rate.

The Runecarver's Memory for The Final Pieces quest can be obtained randomly from multiple places: I received one from a world boss drop, they are available for purchase from the renown quartermaster in your covenant hall, purchasable for 1,500 Honor from Purveyor Zo'kuul in Oribos (at /way35.0 57.6), and can be looted from heroic dungeons (so I've been told). They're also hard to miss as they're highlighted orange and look like a legendary piece.

If you’ve done 重拾自我 and have collected other Memories, deposit them with the 符刻師 in Torghast. Don’t click on the 符刻師, click on the Memory in your inventory. It's the only way the 符刻師 learns it. There is no chat option for “Have you found another memory?” Why do it? It frees up bag space.

If you've come to the 符刻師 to craft or upgrade a piece of legendary gear and you have the memory with you, click on the icon in your inventory. Then select the option to craft or upgrade your piece.

The top reply is VERY misleading. You do NOT need to kill Odalrik and no, the quest is not gated to be accomplished slower. You need ANY rune, and those drop from ANY boss in the maw, not specifically Odalrik.

They also drop from mythic raids (I got one there) and world bosses (I got multiple there, those purple world quests with golden border that are raid bosses).

I have absolutely no clue why was Odalrik involved in the first place.
