I got this mount in a nornal Jorundal (victory). In the island there was one elite and a few normal mobs just like the mount (thunderscale drakes), but no rare.

I got this after 19 hours of farming. It dropped for me on Jorundall, Heroic and after killing the blue stormdrake dragons. So, to make this easy here are my findings:

- It drops on Jorundall
- It drops on any difficulty, however I decided to HC, since higher difficulties mean higher drop chance
- Blue stormheim dragons /have/ to be present, not sure if you need to kill them. I killed them just to make sure

I Started doing normal ie's on my Demon Hunter twink and when 毛兔的符咒 came I bought a lot of them and sent them over to my main character and started running mythic ie's. I used three accounts while I was doing ie's. My other two accounts were afk on the ship while I was running around looting and gathering azerite on my main. (Since I had 3 accounts my total attempts are 14061) I wrote my attempts below as one account and my attempts as 3 accounts in parentheses.

Am I getting paranoid or is Jorundall always packed with Island Dragons on Wednesday/Thursday in EU (about 50% chance of them spawning) while there seem to be no dragons at all at least on Friday (like <10% chance of them spawning). This is what happened for me in the last 3 weeks Jorundall was in the rotation.

Anyone else who has the suspicion that something feels a little off? Note that this is coming from somebody who is about to go insane trying to get this mount (got the 25 of the Whelpling Pets, 2700+ dubloons farming only in Jordundall weeks) so it might be complete bull&*!@.

YESSS I got it finally after 2520 islands according to rarity but closer to 3000ish ( rarity doesn't count new islands for me). Got it from a normal Jorundall, 4/9 now!

After getting almost no Island Thunderscale dragons at all in Jorundall over the weekend, today on Monday in EU the Thunderscales finally came back. I did 6 Mythic Jorundalls today and 3 of them had Island Thunderscales present. On my 6th run the mount finally dropped for me!

So after having farmed this mount for the last months and doing countless Jorundall runs I want to share some information that I found.

Confirmed:

The mount can only drop when Island Thunderscales are present
Island Thunderscales can only spawn on Jorundall
They are native to Jorundall and cannot spawn as part of an invasion and are not part of the weekly island population rotation
When Island Thunderscales are present on your island you are guaranteed to receive the 雷鱗幼龍 pet while you also have a small chance to receive the mount
The mount can drop on any difficulty (Normal, Heroic and Mythic)
You do not have to kill any of the dragons to have a chance of getting the mount

Speculation, needs confirmation:

Island Thunderscales will spawn at a different rate on different days of the week
About 50% chance of them spawning on Wednesday, Thursday and Monday (EU servers, may vary for US)
Below 10% chance of them spawning on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (EU servers, may vary for US)
Island Thunderscales can never spawn on any island besides Jorundall (99% sure)

Just returned to playing wow after almost a year of not playing. Got this mount on Jor/Dentarg/heroic/12:47am EST Wed./victory Killed dragons. Dropped on my 7th island expedition. I used to go by the philosophy that if you farm something in WoW it's like work. If you just play and let things come it's more fun and less like a chore. I didn't even know this mount could drop. In regards to Todesbote's post. I ran about 10 hours of island expeditions today all mythic level. Today is Wednesday in US. Of the 60~ or so islands I ran, I got Jorundall 15-20 times.

Of all those runs I only saw Island thunderscale mobs twice. The first time they appeared, my friend got the mount and it was her 4th jorundall run ever(she was a healer and I have my speculations about mount drops and healers lol). I can confirm that it is guaranteed you receive the pet if the mobs are present as everyone in my party got the pet both times the mobs spawned (on mythic difficulty).

All in all I doubt that for US there is 50% chance for them to spawn on Wednesday, and I didn't see them at all yesterday either. I'm hoping there is some sort of rate to their spawn because its pretty brutal with how it is set up right now.

I didn't think it was possible to make a worse RNG system than the paragon caches in legion but a tip o the hat to you blizzard because this is just ridiculous. I would be totally fine with farming 10k coins to purchase 1 mount but apparently working towards accomplishments is just completely out of the question in the face of RNGesus.

I always wanted that dragon from Valarjar box but never got it dureing legion...i came back, figured i should lvl up my druid with expeditions. Saw that dragon mob(looks like) and trough ''hehe this one gonna drop me mount ''for sure'' ''...after island ended i just saw something epic droped, i was like NO WAY ITS NOT :D Happily it was, this beauty droped for me on normal :)

Have been farming for the 海嶼雷鱗龍 mount since Jorundall was up the week with Tuanka inhabitants. Did only normal modes puggin the whole week. The week ended without having gotten the mount.

Second week with Jorundal and Vrykul inhabitants, continued farming on normal and decided to make 2 more accounts since If the Island thunderscales are on the map I'd have more chances at looting the mount. Did normal modes while other 2 accounts afk on the ship. The week ended without the mount dropping.

Third week of Jorundal (1st May 2019) continued farming (Normal mode) and on a map with 1-3 island thunderscale mobs, the mount finally dropped for both of the accounts with characters afk on the ship, not on my main account.

Things to Note:

The 雷鱗幼龍 pet does is not guarantee to drop even though island thunderscale are present. can be looted even with no thunderscales present, dropped more with island thunderscale present, (3 accounts received the pet each on one run)

Some visits I've found them all over the island and another just one single Island thunderscale mob. As long there is one, the mount will be in the loot table.

Over 3 different weeks farming jorundall, chances the thunderscales were present were about 1 in 10 jorundall maps , sometimes even going a few days farming without seeing any. Also didn't encounter more or less during different times of the day.

Average clear times for normal solo expeditions about 10-12 minutes (averagely geared mage) mostly collected azerite,and targeted rare mobs.

Didn't have to unlock island expeditions for other accounts, just boosted to level 110, main invited and qued them, they will still get loot from IEs and also level up in the process. (just got heart of azeroth and did campaign to reach the main city)

Did try loosing on all difficulty modes , did not received any reward for all accounts. Aside from mounts did looted lots of quest items, pets, transmogrify items.

I finally got my Island Thunderscale! I've been dutifully grinding every day for several hours the last week (and the three weeks previous when we had those back to back Jorundalls on the map rotation) I haven't seen any Thunderscales on the island today at all, (Sunday) (or any since Tuesday)

I decided to try leveling my low level alts via islands instead of spamming Mythic on my main. If nothing else it made it less frustrating when the mount didn't drop because at least I was still getting XP. Got it on my 115 lvl Warlock on Normal. I didn't see any drakes at all, but then we got stuck on the beach when the 2nd and 3rd waves came in. I also started eating any random food I saw along my travels. No idea if that helped at all but at this point, it doesn't hurt to try.

It makes me wonder if the 'difficulty' chance / drop rate is in any way related to your toon's level vs the level of the scenario. Maybe that's why so many people have mentioned getting it on Normal vs getting it on Mythic (when they are likely on a max level toon with high stats)

I was on Heroic Jorundall when this dropped, only saw regular and elite blue dragons...no rares. Only a small group at that, killed towards the end. Stating that, this is my one and only mount I have had drop, and I can't even begin to tell you how many islands I've ran .

With loot boxes out now, it is much easier to get your mounts. Though you still have to run islands for the 175 dubloons to get them. Stating that, you can take your chances at getting a mount while earning them, but usually going to get a mount out of the boxes at some point for sure. I have gotten at least 5 with 2700 dubs. Don't forget to check out the guides for the boxes on which drop the mounts you may want most, and good luck!

Yesterday I decided to do some island expeditions. I did 5 of them, all of them on Mythic, and at the end of the 5th one I dropped this. I still have to understand what rate does it have, but I can tell that during the last expedition I didn't even see the dragons. So to get this drop, these kind of dragons just need to spawn on your island, it doesn't matter if you tag/see them or not.

It finally happened for me.

I've been trying for this specific mount since 8.1. Every time Jorundall islands were active I tried my best to chain run until I just couldn't do any more. I knew this mount existed, I saw other people on it, but it just felt impossible to try to aim for. The layers of RNG involved between not only needing the right island, but also having the rarespawn thunderdrakes up...what were the chances?

Today, on my first mythic island of the day, it dropped. I never have to do islands again. I can't express what a relief this is.

But it's also depressing that in all those hundreds and hundreds of islands I ran, I never saw any other mount. This is my first (and likely only) island mount. I'm okay with that now because I got what I wanted most, but I really wish they'd revamp this system. Put them on the vendor for dubloons, make them more realistic to aim for.

Anyways, just had to share my happiness and try to encourage other people who were withering away like I was. It can happen!

(also if it helps at all - this dropped Tuesday on NA, with Jorundall+Vargul - I know there have been some theories about certain times of the week)

I have been grinding this mount since 8.1 and religiously farmed Island Expeditions whenever Jorundall was up, I did well over a thousand islands and had no drop, but saw copious amounts of 雷鱗幼龍 in my time grinding.

I decided to start grinding Islands again this week as Jorundall was back up, I got four hours in before the mount FINALLY dropped. There was a lot of screaming, as you can imagine!

The one thing I noticed on my grind (it could be a coincidence) that whatever mobs I killed first, I tended to get a drop from. For example, I killed Worgens first and got Duskhaven gear at the end. This happened several times, so I decided to go to the spawn spots for the Thunderscales and to see if they were there. 1 in every 3-4 Islands they were present. When they were there, I killed them first - the mount dropped on this attempt. As I said, it could be a coincidence, but always worth an attempt if - like me, you have spent endless hours grinding for this mount.

Just got this today, 10/18 on H Jorundall (not here to gloat, just sharing what I know).

There were no drakes present at all and the only adds were Vrykul which we never actually saw and some Island Trolls, we only ran into one pack of them. The rest were Taunka, some Azerite critters, some crocs, and some wind serpents, but no dragons. The only other thing we attacked were the Horde who attacked us first, but we didn't get to finish them off before we had our 9k Azerite. Maybe it was a drop from a chest which we looted a lot of?

If you are thinking "omg" after reading the other comments then dont worry as there is another way to get these island mounts ,which is way much better than this rng . So i have made some posts which i will be copy pasting here ,now the way to get these mounts is still rng but way much less than drop from island .There is a vendor near the Island Expedition Map Table - Captain Kitt for the Horde and Captain Nightrunner for the Alliance which sells some boxes ,those are only available 3 per week regardless of what island is underway and those boxes are 175 seafarers dubloons each . So i m just copy pasting the mount info from my main post .

So Good Luck as the drop rate is around 20% give or take and doing mythic at this point is not that hard as it was before and u get quite a lot of duns from mythics .

After storming Mythic expeditions last week, in order to kill Thunderscales in Jorundall, but to no avail, I ended up purchasing two 尤倫達爾回收物品. I somehow got two 遭劫的北境帝王之刃 from the first chest, and 海嶼雷鱗龍 and a green BoE armor piece from the second one. So I suggest you stack up on coins and buy 尤倫達爾回收物品 as it is worth it.

the only mount i really ever wanted from islands and of course it's the only one i still don't have... got everything else during bfa, including duplicates... i wish they would at least increase the doubloon drops at this point or just make it more consistent. i've had runs where i get insanely lucky and get 40+ dubs and then essentially have the same run but i get 8..

Ok so I promised myself when I won this beauty, I will come back and share my data with the community, in case somone needs some recent feedback. So the Thunderscale for me 5 mins ago, on 15/10/2022 and below are the notes I kept for you guys / gals:

? countless Mythic runs whenever the Journdall Salvage was up for purchase (I never bothered to run much when the island itself was up on a chance it would drop off a dragon. Maybe I should have)

Dubloons per MYTHIC run (averages from memory)

Lower end: one bag 7-10 dubloons
Average: 2 bags, 12-16 dubloons
Top end: 3 bags 22-36+ dubloons
Most dubloons in one satchel: 25

Stuff I won during the grind

Won Plenty transmog (from salvages)

Won MANY companions (usually as a reward from an expedition)

Won 2 Mounts from salvages:
*Craghorn Chasm-Leaper (Yeti)
*Bloodgorged Hunter (Bat)

Won 1 Mount from an expedition win
*Qinsho’s Eternal Hound*

FINALLY Won the Thunderscale on the 9th Jorundall Salvage purchase

So not the luckiest guy, took me a good grind to get the best looking mount in the game currently.

NOTE 1* Im a dad of 2 so my grinding was not the fastest, took me 10-15 mins to clear a mythic run on a BM hunter with 240 shadowlands gear

NOTE 2* I read somewhere that even if you lost an expedition, you still get dubloons, however the one expedition I lost (it was tonight), I got ZERO dubloons, so still getting rewards after a loss is not a given.

Finally, good luck to the one person this post helped / encouraged. I promise you the mount is worth it, and even better than that, the feeling you will never have to run another stinkin expedition again. Good luck, keep grinding and congrats in advance!

I had no idea this mount existed. I just saw someone on it in Dorn and was like what the! I immediately logged into my character I played on BfA and looked to see if I had any Dubloons. I had 200, so i flew to Captain Kitt and purchased the Jorundall Salvage. BOOM, it was in the first and only one i've ever purchased.

This is the last mount to finish islands for me. I've been doing them off and on for the last few months to get all of the mounts and pets. Usually I have a day or two per week that I just run through a bunch of islands and buy salvages. Even though I'm still going after this one I have a few tips.

If you are going after all of the mounts/pets, this one does seem to be the most rare, open Jorundall salvages first.
If you want more chances when Jorundall island is up, it appears that you cannot do the same island 2 times in a row. So if you complete Jorundall, your next run will have to be one of the two other islands available for the week. Do the one island. Then when you queue up again, you have to do one of the two, if you get the other island just leave and requeue immediately (no leaver penalty) until you get Jorundall again. You can increase your time on Jorundall (and chance to see Thunderscale which increases your opportunity to get the mount) by doing Jorundall every other island.
There is definitaly some truth to either days or some time when the Thunderscale mobs spawn more. I had not been targeting Jorundall island early in the process, but now that this is the last mount, I want to hit this island more when it's up than not. Usually I would see Jorundall a few times and I'd estimate the percent chance of seeing Thunderscale was like 1 in 10, like today (Friday after reset). But yesterday, which was a Thursday (and today/Friday before reset), I was seeing 50% of the time I landed on Jorundall.
I dont know if the Thunderscale pet is 100% drop when the Thunderscale mobs are preset, but it is pretty high. I can say that most of the time that I killed a Thunderscale mob (and even times that I did not see/kill Thunderscale) . for context I have 14 total thunderscale pets (not sure if i sold any already) and i probably got 1 or 2 from Jorundall salvage and the rest from islands. I got at least 5 of them yesterday when I was seeing them every other island, and I want to say 1 time I killed a thunderscale and didnt get the pet.
update - just got a single Thunderscale mob on a Jorundall island, and no pet, so it is not 100%, but it does appear to be a high chance to get the pet.

Today I finally got the mount. I started farming the Jorundall expeditions with no much luck because every time i queued one of the other 2 islands active would pop up. The mount did not drop. Then I read about the Jorundall salvages and said "%^&* it I'll do that", so I farmed the coins necessary to buy only 4 salvages (700 in total). Then I waited every reset to see if the Jorundall salvages were available, it took like 5 weeks ._. so be patient. Today 16/09/25 the salvages finally appeared and I bought 4, the mount dropped when I opened the last salvage while I was already loosing hope lol. I totally recommend waiting for the salvages, good luck everybody !

Farmed 1000 dubloons and then just waited Jorundall salvage crate on vendor, bought one box, no drake, second box, pet drake and transmog.

Boxes are the easiest way to get these things.
