I found sharptalon yesterday and killed him, got the talon and done.

I didn't turn it in, because it said requires 20 and I was 19 (Twink), but then I tried to click on it and it was cool. I could turn it in, even though it said 19, so I hope it helps whoever else that can use this pointless info xD

Basicly: Hunt still on, with no requirements.

Drops from Sharptalon, a bird that wanders the area near The Dor'Danil Barrow Den. You will most likey run into this creature during the quest Rotting Slime that is around this area. I did this quest as of patch 7.1.5.

This bird is one of several creatuers in Ashenvale that drops an item that leads to a quest. It used to be part of the old classic quest, The Ashenvale Hunt, but no more. Also there was an NPC that offered tips on where to locate these beasts, but no more. The NPC still exist, Senani Thunderheart, a female tauren, but she doesn't offer any tips anymore. She has also been moved from Splintertree Post to Silverwind Refuge during the remake of this zone for Cataclysm. But you can still do these quests, but not the followup that existed once you did all of these back in the days.

The other creatures that drop are as following:

Ursangous - you will most likely run into this bear during the two quests They're Out there! and Building Your Own Coffin.

Tideress - part of the quest Simmer Down Now.

Shadumbra - a cat that wanders the area near Raynewood Retreat.

just so you know all of these special beast encounters can be tamed by hunters making for some unique non elite or rare pets to have. and they all keep their original name
