Arcanite is usually within a 10g window on all servers. Average asking price for a transmute is 5 gold, although 4g is becoming popular since thats how WoW's open market works.

It CAN be mined out of small throium veins, however that is a rare occurence. It is less rare from rich thorium veins (RTV).

Arcanite bars are also needed by enchanters to create runed arcanite rods, and it can't be skipped as the arcanite rod is an ingredient in the next enchanting rod required only 10 profession levels later!

Note for Llane Alchemists: Unless you are a miner, or know one you will have to buy your own materials (Thorium bar-2g in AH, Arcane Crystal- 5-10g in AH) This means that if you sell your arcanite bar in the AH for the general price (20g) the profit will only be 8-13g which is not bad. However, there is also good money in selling arcanite transmutes using the buyer's mats (which are especially good if you still get alch. skill from it). From experience I know that there are some people who will only tip 2g, but there are some rich and desperate souls who will pay 25g (provided you meet them at a destination that works best for the customer). I hope that whoever bothers to read this will find it useful. And when I learn more about it, i may post information similar to this about primal might transmutes in the primal might item comments.

An interesting note: Due to the increased drop rate of arcane crystals in all thorium veins. For a very short time(275-280) Arcanite Keys can be a good substitute for Imperial Plate bracers for getting some skill up.

Transmute Arcanite is:
Thorium Bar x1
Arcane Crystal x1

Arcanite Key x2 is:
Arcanite Bar x1
Dense Grinding Stone x1 (4 Dense Stone)

This compared to...

Imperial Plate bracers:
Thorium Bar x12

It should be noted Arcanite keys are of yellow difficulty when you train them at 275, but for those 5 blacksmithing levels its well worth the risk over the orange skill Imperial Plate bracers to save yourself some money/time.

In 80x transmutes, I got 9x extra, all were x2 procs.

Also, if you use Haste gear the cast time is decreased. For example, with just over 80 Haste rating you'll get each made under 5 secs. The new Scourge Invasion gear for example, would be great to keep for speeding up your profession's spells.

I still make arcanite bars for specifically for people levelling up enchanting as I sell them in stacks of 3 on the AH for around 90g for 3, always a sure sell item & if you can get the crystals cheap then its a good money earner.

Unlike most bars used for 鍛造, the 奧金錠 is created via 轉化：奧金, not via 採礦日誌. Consequently, you need an Alchemist to craft one, not a Blacksmith or Miner!

There is currently no cooldown on 採礦日誌, so you can create all the 奧金錠 you need at once.

Notably, the 奧金錠 continues to be popular on AH (as of patch 4.3), as it is required to craft a 奧金棒, which is still required to create a 符文奧金棒 used to level 附魔.

Just got done making about 170 of these with a Transmutation spec'd Alchemist. Can confirm that they do indeed proc for x2 and even x5 (Happened Once) So hang in there it is possible to get those x5 Procs.

As of 5.1, Transmute: Arcanite still has a chance to proc multiple Arcanite Bars if your alchemist is a Transmutation specialist.

Procs more than x2 are rare, though.

I'm always curious to know other people's experience after something like this loses it's "purpose", so I'm leaving this here: even now, I'm able to sell these pretty consistently for a huge profit... around 100g per. I can only assume they're for specialty items since the Arcanite Rod is no longer needed but I don't know, because they buy a lot. They'll sit for weeks, but about once a month or so someone will buy my entire stock, sometimes 5-6 stacks, all at once.

So, anecdotally, they are indeed worth crafting when you can. :)

Some of you might be reading through these old comments and get very confused. Procs? Mastery?

Back in the BC and WOLK days, alchemists had masteries - You could choose to become a potion master, a flask master OR a transmute master. Whatever mastery you chose would give you procs when making that particular item. i.e. a potion master would get procs and extra potions making potions.

Arcanite bars have become a pretty good money maker for me, and having my alchemist be a transmute master gets extra procs. 30 mins or so mining around old Silithus will get ~10 arcane crystals which turn in to ~12 bars. Depending on the listing price, that can be upwards of 10K. Not a bad return!

If you are going to be using this frequently, it's definitely worth getting the transmute mastery. It's a bit of legwork to get your classic alchemy up to 300 and then do the quest, but it's definitely worth it in the long haul. For details on how to do it, check out the quest 轉化專精.
