Zereth Mortis Comprehensive Guide

Zereth Mortis is the new zone that was added to the game in Patch 9.2, Eternity's End. As the zone that serves as the hub for 9.2, it came with lots of new content that could make some players feel overwhelmed when going through it for the first time. This guide serves as a comprehensive compendium of all features and activities to do within the zone, such as quests and events.
Unlocking Zereth Mortis
To unlock Zereth Mortis, you must work through Chapter 1 of the Eternity's End storyline,

There are currently no underlying requirements to unlock the Zereth Mortis storyline for alts. Any alts at any point in the Shadowlands campaign can start the questline.
Zereth Mortis Skip for Alts
Once you complete Chapter 3 of the Eternity's End campaign,

, you can skip the first 3 Chapters of the campaign on subsequent alts. To access this skip, once you become eligible to start the 9.2 Covenant Campaign, talk to Tal-Inara in Oribos and choose the option
I have been to Zereth Mortis before and met Pocopoc. <Skip ahead to Zereth Mortis and have Pocopoc unlocked.>.
After you activate the skip, you will open the portal to Zereth Mortis. This skip unlocks the questline to open Zereth Mortis, the introduction to the Cypher of the First Ones system, unlocks Dailes and World Quests, as well as the Weekly Quest in Zereth Mortis.
Can I Fly in Zereth Mortis?
Initially, you will traverse Zereth Mortis on foot, but you will be able to eventually unlock flying! Flying in Zereth Mortis requires completion of the achievement

How to Reach Zereth Mortis
Once the Eternity's End Campaign quest

is completed, a portal to Zereth Mortis will open in Oribos, by the northern portion of the Ring of Transference area. This is a two-way portal, as you can return to Oribos from Zereth Mortis by using the obelisk found at the Geometric Cavern, just outside of Haven.

Zereth Mortis is a zone that was added in Patch 9.2, Eternity's End. The campaign questline follows the events of Patch 9.1, Chains of Domination, and a majority of the 9.2 Campaign questline happens in the zone. For an overview of the storyline, check our Patch 9.2 Lore guide.

Zereth Mortis Hubs
Zereth Mortis has three main hubs for players in the zone: Haven, Exile's Hollow, and Pilgrim's Grace.

Haven
At the beginning of the Zereth Mortis storyline, players will come in contact with Firim, an exiled Enlightened broker. After interacting with Firim and completing a few quests, players will be introduced to Haven, the main hub for Zereth Mortis. Haven is where a majority of the new NPCs will be, preparing for the protection of the zone and the Sepulcher of the First Ones.
Haven is a Sanctuary area that serves as the main hub for the Enlightened. Haven has the following amenities:
An Obelisk that leads to Oribos and a translocator that connects it with Exile's Hollow and Pilgrim's Grace.
An inn with an innkeeper to set your Hearthstone (
阿納普
) and a mailbox, a repair NPC (

), and a stable master (

).
A Forge of Bonds to change your Soulbinds and Conduits without needing to return to your Covenant Sanctum.
An Anima Courier to deposit Anima into your Covenant Sanctum (

Exile's Hollow
Exile's Hollow is the second Zereth Mortis hub, located in the northwestern portion of the zone. You will first encounter Exile's Hollow in Chapter 3 of the Campaign, but you can venture there before you reach that chapter.
Exile's Hollow is Firim's hideout, and this sanctuary area is the headquarters for the Cyphers of the First Ones system. Exile's Hollow has the following amenities:
A translocator that connects it with Haven and Pilgrim's Grace.
One of the possible places to pick up Daily Quests for Zereth Mortis.
The Cypher of the First Ones console, where you'll upgrade the system.
Once unlocked, an Enhancement Console to select temporary enhancements for Zereth Mortis questing.
Enhancement consoles to read your Concordance progress and change your Pocopoc's appearance.
Pilgrim's Grace
Pilgrim's Grace is the third Zereth Mortis hub, located in the eastern portion of the zone. You will first encounter Pilgrim's Grace in Chapter 4 of the campaign, but you can venture there before you reach that chapter.
This hub serves as a forward camp for Enlightened brokers going on a pilgrimage, but it also holds several amenities for players:
A translocator that connects it with Haven and Exile's Hollow.
An inn with an innkeeper to set your Hearthstone (

Pocopoc - A Friend in Zereth Mortis
One of the main features of Zereth Mortis is Pocopoc, an automa that will accompany you through your journey in the zone.
Pocopoc is unlocked at the end of Chapter 3 of the 9.2 Campaign, with the quest

. Once this quest is completed and you've started researching the Cypher of the First Ones system, you will receive the spell

, which allows you to summon Pocopoc to your side in Zereth Mortis.
While out, Pocopoc will assist you in combat by casting

at them. Outside of combat, you can talk to Pocopoc and ask it to look for noteworthy objects, and it will point them out to you as you walk around the zone. Pocopoc can track the following objects, depending on how far you're into your Cypher research:
Concordance consoles.
Caches of Creation puzzles.

Echoed Jiros.
Shrouded caches and Elusive gathering nodes.
Pocopoc also has Pocopoc Energy, a slowly recovering resource that allows it to perform tasks like accessing Caches of Creation and other things. Pocopoc starts with a maximum of 10 Pocopoc Energy, restoring 1 Energy every 6 minutes, but these values are improved as you research through the Cypher of the First Ones system. The Enlightened - Zereth Mortis Reputation
Once members of Cartel Al, the Enlightened have abandoned the pursuit of profit and glory out of devotion to the First Ones. By earning their favor, the brokers may be willing to share the knowledge they have gleaned.
The Enlightened is the new reputation of Eternity's End. Led by the former council of the broker Cartel Al, they have found Zereth Mortis and abandoned their pilfering ways to devote themselves to the First Ones. For more information on the Enlightened, check our reputation guide!

There are many activities players can do in Zereth Mortis, including finding treasures, killing rares, doing events, and more.
Weekly Quest - Patterns Within Patterns
The main activity to do in Zereth Mortis comes from the weekly quest,

. This quest is given by Bolvar once Chapter 3 of the 9.2 Campaign is complete, and it requires you to do activities in Zereth Mortis. Daily and World Quests
Like most other Shadowlands zones, Zereth Mortis has an array of Dailies and World Quests they can do. Both Dailies and World Quests are unlocked at the end of Chapter 3 of the 9.2 Campaign, with extra Dailies being unlocked with Cypher of the First Ones progression.
Two World Quests per day are initially available, with a third World Quest unlocked once you research the

The Cypher of First Ones is the main progression system in Zereth Mortis - Powered by Cyphers of the First Ones, which are collected from many activities in Zereth Mortis, you're able to obtain many enhancements for outdoor zone activities, such as having your Pocopoc unit control coreless creatures, temporary enhancements that can eventually become permanent, and much more!

Rare Spawns
Zereth Mortis is full of Rares, with a total of

to kill around the zone. These Rares have varying levels of health and damage, with the easiest ones having around 200k health and the hardest ones serving as group Rares, with over 1.2m health before scaling.
When killed, Rares drop

tokens, Cyphers of the First Ones, and Cosmic Flux, with a chance to drop gear for your specialization. All Zereth Mortis Rares also grant

Protoform Synthesis is a new crafting system coming in Eternity's End. Sharing similarities with the Junkyard Tinkering system from Mechagon in Battle for Azeroth, Protoform Synthesis allows you to gather reagents from many sources in Zereth Mortis to craft many Battle Pets and Mounts based on the zone.

Antros, Keeper of the Antecedents
There is one new World Boss in Zereth Mortis, located at the northernmost island of Zereth Mortis. Antros's island can be reached with a translocator at the northern edge of Zereth Mortis. Antros drops iLvl-259 loot and iLvl-178 Conduits.

Can you explain the 1 piece of Zereth Mortis gear, ilvl 239-252 (depending on your Cypher Equipment Level) for weekly quest? I have higher ilvl armor than the Cypher drops I have gotten so they are not equipped - will this affect my drop?

I was missing the starter quest on an alt. When I went to the enclave to try speaking with Tal-Inara, the only person there who wanted to speak with me was Highlord Bolvar Fordragon. Turns out I had stopped my quest chain at the 'go to Torghast' part of the storyline. I skipped that and the next in the chain, which opened Korthia. After that the starter quest, Call of the Primus, popped right up.

This page should probably be updated to show that the "Patterns Within Patterns" quest is now weekly, rather than every three days.
As of 6/1/2022, the section title has been fixed, but the text of the paragraph still says every 3 days.

Can anyone confirm? It appears that there are no weapons, shields or off-hand available via cypher equipment, Zereth Mortis Dailies and World quests. So you can grind every item slot up to 252 with cypher equipment, zereth mortis world quests/daily quests, and 259 in 2 armor slots via the world boss Antros, and 291 legenderies, But for weapons, shields, off-hand, you're capped at Korthia 233 weapons, shields, off-hands if you don't want to join raids.

Think I may be missing something...
My alt who only has been doing the campaign just completed chapter 5 (took the skip option at the beginning), and cannot read the text from the npc in grave repose for the cosmic flight paths. It's showing the coded jibberish. Does anyone know what I need to unlock?

If you have the same problems as I have (not playing Shadowlands) you can get to Zereth Mortis either buy a friendly Warlock that can summon you or using a meeting stone. I used the following:
/way #1970 78 50 - Meeting Stone - Zereth Mortis - The Sepulcher of the First Ones
I have no character (on any accounts) that has done the pre-quests to get to Zereth Mortis. My lvl 68 mage was leader of the group and did the summoning (if that would matter) and I had help from another of my accounts, a lvl 33 mage. So I summoned a 3:rd guy over here so my Warlock can leave and do more important stuff then just hang out here :)
We can all fly in Zereth Mortis now so that helps.

Just spent 2 hours trying to get to zereth mortis and i still have no idea what im supposed to do.
