How the Scrapper in Battle for Azeroth Works

Introduction
In Battle for Azeroth, Blizzard introduces the Scrap-o-Matic 1000 and the The Shred-Master Mk1 .
Players can use these machines to scrap armor and weapons, destroying the items in exchange for some crafting materials.
This overview will tell you everything you need to know to get started scrapping!
Getting to the scrapper
There are two scrappers, one for each faction. You can find the scrappers in the respective main cities in the new Battle for Azeroth zones.
The Scrap-o-Matic 1000
The Scrap-o-Matic 1000 can be found in the new Alliance capital Boralus in Tiragarde Sound.
It is located in the Tradewinds Market, the crafting area where you can also find all profession trainers.

Next to the scrapper
Crenzo Sparkshatter
offers you an optional quest that teaches you how to use the scrapper.
The Shred-Master Mk1
The Shred-Master Mk1 can be found in the new Horde capital Dazar'alor in Zuldazar.
It is located in the Terrace of Crafters, the crafting area where you can also find all profession trainers.

Next to the scrapper
Myxle "The Searat" Gutwrench
offers you an optional quest that teaches you how to use the scrapper.
Using the scrapper
Using the scrapper is easy. If you have ever used the Obliterum Forge that was introduced in Legion, you will notice that the UI for the scrapper is very similar. Thankfully, Blizzard improved it for the scrapper.
You can put up to 9 items into the scrapper and then hit the Scrap button. This will scrap all 9 items one after another, similar to when you craft multiple items with one click.
Unlike the Obliterum Forge in Legion, the scrapper is not limited to crafted items. Instead, it is limited to Battle for Azeroth armor and weapons. You can scrap almost all Battle for Azeroth armor and weapons:
Crafted armor and weapons, random world drops, armor and weapons you get from quests and even gear from dungeons and raids can be scrapped.
There are a few exceptions to this though. Armor you can buy from vendors for example cannot be scrapped.
What do you get from scrapping?
Scrapping armor and weapons will destroy the items and reward you with some crafting materials in return. The materials you get depend on which profession can craft items for the itemslot that you are scrapping.
If you scrap a fist weapon for example, you will be rewarded with a some scales and bones, since fist weapons can be crafted using the Leatherworking profession.
If you scrap a plate breastplate, you will be rewarded with some ore and flux, since plate breastplates can be crafted using the Blacksmithing profession.

But there is one material that is special:

Whenever you scrap an item, there is a small chance to get

in addition to the regular materials. Based on the testing people have done during the Battle for Azeroth beta, it seems like you can expect to get roughly 1

per 6 items scrapped. And while this number might not be accurate, it gives us a good idea on how hard it will be to acquire

via scrapping.

is required to craft level 120 armor and weapons, level 111 alchemy trinkets,

Achievements
In addition to the practical aspect of it all, the scrapper also comes with a few achievements.
Completing the optional introductory quest that teaches you how to use the scrapper will reward you with the

This is not a new mechanic. Many MMO's let you breakdown (a la scrap) unwanted gear for crafting mats. This is going to help quite a bit. I normally just ran greens through the AH for some type of gold profit.
Will be interesting to see what holds more value. Gold vendor, AH selling price, or scrapped material value chance.

Mining going out of window with this. Of course you can in bulk ore but, prices will be lower. Herbalism and Enchanting not gonna affect.

In case anyone is wondering: Yes you can use the item restoration service in the website to restore any item you scrapped accidentally.
Earlier today I scrapped a really good azerite quest reward by accident and I restored it, it appears as a disenchanted item.

I have enchanting and jewelcrafting as my professions, so this is actually quite handy for me. Scrap all my plate gear to get ore which I otherwise would have had to buy or farm on an alt, and disenchant everything else as normal.

I think a way for people to help their enchanter alts is to send to them, if not all, at least the BoE greens they don't have the appearance yet, or the armor/weapon type the current character can't
use
. Let's say, you have and alt Warlock with Enchanting, and your main hunter with 2 other professions, no Enchanting, if you dropped some BoE cloth armor on your main while questing, aside from mail ones, you could send those cloth to the Warlock for disenchanting, while keeping some on your main, specially those BoP mail you'll be swapping all the Leveling process, for scrapping.
That is my advice, since people tend to get a bit greedy on their auctions on the beginning of the expansions and who the hell knows what items you might need to craft for your main or alts and you'd have to stop at AH for it, or not if you already have the mats =D

Hi! I think there might be a little bit of misinformation here. I believe Expolsum is the new obliterum, NOT the new blood of sargeras like the post claims. When looking at recipes 1 for 1, the Legion alchemy cauldron used 1 Blood of Sargeras. In BFA the alchemy cauldron uses 1 HYDROCORE. I believe the hydrocore is the new blood of sargeras especially with how its obtained at the last boss of a mythic dungeon, similar to blood of sargeras dropping from mythic dungeons.

Has any of you seen this : when I use the scrapper, sometimes my cursor randomely turns blue (I mean blue around the glove/cursor) as if I had to click on a character to cast a spell or something. It is really annoying because I have to hit Escape to make the scrapper work again.
Any ideas ?

It mentions here that trinkets give herbs and inks, but so far I have scrapped 7 quest reward trinkets and every single one has given expulsom. I scrapped 2 uncommon 4 rare and 1 epic, I put them in the scrapper alone and every one of them gave an expulsom. Either I'm incredibly lucky or quest trinkets give 100% chance of expulsom. Would be a help to everyone if anyone else can confirm this :) Perhaps its only crafted trinkets that give herbs?

I wish this could be extended for the later expansions...
Being able to recover materials when you couldn't sell anything on the auction house helped levelling up!
