Finally zoned to my friend's garrison while he was in Gorgrond. I did NOT get the achievement.

Asked him to come back to his garrison, so he flew back. Even when he was 1 inch away from me, I did NOT get the achievement.

Left the zone, and came back, still nothing.

Went back to mine, then went back to his (bare in mind he did not leave his garrison after he came back) and POOF! I got the achievement.

Easily got it with my friend, just be in your garrison while they are in theirs. Then group up and right click on your portrait. click view leaders garrison. Drop group and repeat with the other.

Easy one:

Go to your garrison town hall - both of you.
Once you are there set a party.
Player who is NOT a leader rightclick his portrait and click "visit leader´s garrison".

Done

From what I can tell, the player's toon you are partied with needs to be in your friends. Not just a Realid friend but add the specific character to your friends list and then it should work.

Tried everything this is what worked.
Both players have to have each other on the their friends' list
Both have to be in a group with each other
The player in the group that is not the leader can click their portrait and click the option "Visit Leader's Garrison" this should do it however;
*When all fails like it did for me go into you friend's Frostwall mines and come back out. That was the only way I was awarded the achievement.

Had to enter my party leader's Frostwolf Mine and then go back into the garrison in order for the achievement to be counted.

You don't need to leave the area at all. You need to promote the one you are visiting to Party Leader, then under your portrait click "View Leader's Garrison" and then back to yours, then theirs, and yours, a good three times before it figures out what you want to do and gives you the achievement.

I tried the leaving the area thing, etc, this is honestly the quickest. Just stay in your own garrison and let the screen reload each time.

WHY!
Why is that nobody has had the time to make a comment like
"You need to have a level 2 garrison to get this on both toons"
I have spent the last two weeks attempting to get this using just my accounts and to no avail....then after watching a youtube video of all things i see the achievements listed and WHAMO....more plots...level 2 garrison, thanks to wowhead for such an in-depth guide for listing this minor tidbit and thanks forums for that too.

I also discovered that if you RIDE your friend in, like on the obsidian nightwing, you may not get the achievement. Always ride or walk in under your own power.

When your phased into your party leaders garrison go towards hes mine.
you should get credit after you leave the mine again.

They might have changed this, but now in the description for the achievement, it states you must /wave inside the garrison...that worked perfectly.

I didn't know about the whole running around the Garrison or going into the Mine. I just targeted my friend and did a /wave and got it that way :)

Is it just me, or is there no longer an option to do this as of BfA 8.0 (and I assume since Legion's launch, too?) Kind of confused, because it used to be that you could just right click a player's name in your party and click "view garrison" regardless of their status as leader or not, but now that UI function seems to have been removed, yet this achievement still exists and isn't considered obsolete?

Anybody know how visiting Garrisons is done in post-WoD?

TL;DR:

Join someone's party.
Click on YOUR portrait
Select to visit their garrison.
/wave
Profit.

October 2023- You need to be the same faction but can be different realms. Just add each other as battle net friends. If you dont see the 'visit garrison option' then switch party leaders. if you're in Dreanor and you are in Party Sync, and you switch party leaders, then the option pops up under your character portrait. Took me a minute to figure out, but it's still doable
