If i recall, there was a lot of leeway last year as to the date you had to log in. I think people were still getting the achieve and the BoA pet for like 2 weeks. Last years was an Onyxia Whelpling and the year before's was a Polar Bear Cub, in case you didn't feel like looking it up. I'd be rather surprised if THIS years isn't directly related to Archeology, since it would be kind of lame to base it off of a dragon raid boss two years in a row.

There isn't a pet planned for this year, no. We plan to reserve this sort of celebratory bonus for the most notable milestones or events in the future.

We were going to be getting a pet. It would have been a unicorn foal, with a coat of a thousand colours and a pristine ivory horn only just beginning to bud upon its young head. It would have eyes of the deepest ebony and to see them, to see the soul within them, would be to look upon the divine.
With time and love the fawn would have grown. As an adult, the unicorn would be majesctic and proud, moreso than any other creature of Azeroth. Green would emerge wherever hoof met soil. The bond formed when you and the foal first looked upon each other would have allowed you the greatest of honours; to be allowed ride upon their back, to feel the pounding gallop as distance fades and you wish for the journey to never end.
Unfortunately, the ranch where they were being raised happened to be located between Astranaar and Raynewood Retreat in Ashenvale Forest.

Let's crunch a few numbers here, shall we?

There are 12 months in a year.

Some people pay $16 a month to play WoW but some only pay $12 so let's use that figure.

6th anniversary = 6x12 months = 72 months. 72 months times $12 a month = 864. This is a lowball figure for total monthly fees assuming you've played since day one like me. now add in original box set, BC expansion, and WotLK expansion. $50 + $40 + $40 = 130. Plus my 864 equals $994 TOTAL that I have payed blizzard over the years. and this is a low estimate. and this is just me.

11 million players. Some of those have been here since the beginning, some are brand new. but let's just take half that number, for argument's sake. 5.5 million players times $994 =

$5,467,000,000.00 THAT'S FIVE AND A HALF BILLION WITH A B FREAKING DOLLARS!

Even if it cost blizzard a cool million to design and distribute a simple in-game item like a cool new anniversary pet, they'd be left with 5,467,000,000 - 1,000,000 = $5,466,000,000.00 .

My disappointment at the "no companion this year" decision is palpable.

I'mma get the feat of strength on all my active toons anyway, just in case someone at Blizzard has a soul.

I laugh at the comments on "We didn't have the time to make a pet for the 6th anniversary this year". This is simply not true mainly because of this reason. The fact that they don't have time to make a pet for the anniversary BUT had time to make not 1 but 2 pets for the Blizz Store nearly at the same time this anniversary was going on? pffft

I love how you crunched all those numbers to determine a very rough idea of their total income over the past six years but failed to even try to roughly estimate their operating costs to determine an actual rough estimate of profit.

While I'm sure Blizzard is profitable... even if a company makes $6 billion but costs them $5.9 billion, that's not a hugely profitable company.

We can't presume to know all the details since we're not directly involved in these type of things. However, I will say that making a single pet is expensive... and making an expansion is a huge financial commitment.

Are we not happy with our WoW lot in life due to a pet? Tell me your joking...go buy or farm some your own pets and mounts and eat Delicious Chocolate Cake so you can be happy...errrr forget that last part some people are never happy in life and make others miserable (ie...3 out of 5 pugs)
