This is an excellent ability. It is a tier 3 talent in the rogues Subtlety tree.
Although it does not do as much damage as rogues base attack, 125% is not bad at all. Moreover, it scales perfectly. Throwing this attack attack off after the initial stunlock increases survivability by 15%. It is also a wicked combo in conjunction with Evasion, both of which, when activated, will yield 65% to dodge.
I highly recommend this skill. A single point in Subtlety, and well worth it. More abilities = more versatility.

This is one of the three skills that are not normalized (ghostly strike, riposte, hemo).
So if you have a very slow weapon, you get very good damage.

This talent is only good in PvE when combined with the one that gives talent bubbles on successful dodge.
Unless you are fighting another rogue then that's the only edge i can think of for using this in PvP. It might be more useful to save 5 energy using Hemo. Then after 5 bubbles from hemo appear just shadowstep envenom/evis.

An excellent ability for both PvE and PvP, and it's relatively easy to acquire even if you're not going with the Subtlety Tree, which is what I did with my rogue.
In PvE it's great at mitigating damage and reducing your downtime, or for a little extra help on that elite mob, or those extra two mobs that aggroed you, doh! In PvP, again, it can really add to survivability especially if your Evasion is not up or you'd rather not burn it.
In games such as this, the more options you have in combat, the better off you are. This adds another great option to a rogue's bag of tricks.

I've used Ghostly Strike in a lot of PvE situations and it doesn't seem to do much. It costs less energy than Sinister Strike but does a little less damage. The 15% dodge doesn't make a significant difference really. It is, however, only one talent point. Bottom line: spend your talent on something else, like Improved Sinister Strike.

Does anyone know if this skill stacks up with
evasion? Like 15% + 50% = 65%. I guess not but did anyone try this?

Oh indeed, you can have Ghostly Strike and Evasion stack together. What's the outcome: Invincibility, well almost, but you get the picture

this is worth getting if you are not a dagger rouge because ambush, backstab both need daggers and ambush needs stealth+behind target and backstab needs behind target but this one doesn't. If you are not a dagger rouge than this is definently worth getting

My main daggers 1.3, and my off is 1.6, I think you thinking sword. And it might not be a combo of doom but add setup and evasion, while your backstabing elites, and higher lvls and you got combo points coming out your ass!
P.s. my normal dogde ratios pretty good,so its still free points on top of your normal wich can defintly give you an edge, in deciding how fast a battle is.

was thinking of a respec to get this ability.. until i saw it only does 125% dmg and costs 50 energy to do so. the extra dodge chance is nice if you dont have a warrior in your face but certainly not worth the hassle of a respec.

wat if u miss trying to use it...a lot could happen in those 20 sec cd..but if your doge is alredy 15% +50% +15 OF ghostly strike its only 7 sec! so if your sheeped its over bottom line not worth getting

If the Ghostly Strike misses, is blocked, parried or dodged by an enemy, you still get the +15% dodge chance for 7 seconds buff.
This will be much better in 1.12 as it will require 40 energy instead of 50.

I had this Pre-1.12 and thought it was an opening move (requires stealth) I used it once and figured out it was crap(as an opening move). so when 1.12 came and i got my talent points back i skipped this and chose other talants. now that i have noticed u can use this during combat, im getting it next level i gain!

Extra dodge defintely helps, but it takes a minimum of 11 talents into Subtlety to get. The problem is this:
If you are going to be using daggers, i.e. Ambush, backstab, most likely you are going to be doing stuns and gouges in order to get behind them. This means you have less exposure to enemy melee attacks.
If you are using swords and maces and are spec'd in them, then this will be of use. However, you are using a number of talent points in talents you don't need per se (i.e. MoD, Opportunity, Camouflage).
A few quirks I have with this is that it's a field day for warriors spec'd in Arms with Overpower. It's practically useless against casters. With my feral druid, I engage in melee combat with rogues as a bear, and if I see them pop Evasion or Ghostly Strike, I jump out and use Nature's Grasp and pop back into bear form, then after they're rooted, take two steps backwards and wait out their evasion. Maybe pop a regrowth or run long distance and throw down some starfire (yeah, can still get 800-1k crits sometimes with this without spec).
In light of this, I would recommend investing in Combat Tree's Parry and Riposte -- which takes only 10 energy or so and also does 150% while also disarming your opponent for 6 seconds. Even if your opponent is already disarmed, you can still disarm him again for another 150% weapon damage and an additional 6 seconds.
Heck, once you disarm a warrior = no Heroic strikes, Overpower, or Whirlwind. Disarm a rogue = no sinister strikes, backstabs, or eviscerates. At that point, there is no need to dodge them.

If you are specced subtley, this is a very nice move to have. The dodge chance is nice, and along with Setup can add some free combo points. It's not worth going down the tree for this move alone as the damage isn't too strong. But it definately helps with close calls, and using this with evasion helps when fighting multiple melee targets.
Also try this: Lightning Reflexes, Evasion, Ghostly Strike. . . 5% + 15%+ 50% . . . along with normal rogue dodge percentage can bring dodge chance up to ~85%. Setup along with all this will add a few free combo points, leading to a couple of quickly earned 5-point finishing moves.

Also, you can dodge Riposte with that extra 15% dodge. If your an actual good rogue, them combat specced one's will get the ambush on them before they can even see you (With + stealth observation spec and - stealth detection spec). Sap/Blind em if u need to (+ sap/blind reach)
Although, on the - side. I find that the thing misses/ is dodged/parried/blocked WAY too often by monsters. But when it DOES fail to land, you still lose every single energy point (like all finishing moves) but still gain the +15% dodge. Very annoying to waste 40 energy on an attack that you know only has like a 10% chance of actually landing and then over that 7 second period getting hit by EVERY single attack =/

this move looks like it kicks ass I mean it costs equal to imp SS and from what I hear does about the same. With resiliance daggers suck so now as an opener you have these choices of an effect: SS: about 10-30% extra wep dmg (depending on wep.), Garotte: get a subtancial DoT on your target, Cheap shot: get your self an Extra CP and stun em for 4 sec, Hemo: gives you basically sunder armor without the threat and have a weak end SS, Shiv: put your off hand poison on em...,

Good "addition" to Sinister Strike, but it definetly cannot replace it because of the Cooldown as mentioned below.
If you get the proper timing and some critical hits out of this ability it can be quite powerful.
