Actually, as of patch 2.1, there is no de-buff applied to you when you pick this herb. The sound is still there, but no health is lost.

its like a 10% proc chanse the cures will happen ( gathered around 30x and got like 3x the debuff)

There seems to be more places to get these than Shadowmoon Valley, though not enough to actually farm them in any other location. I found ONE node in Blade's Edge Mountains next to the Death's Gate portal where you find Baelmon the Hound-Master.

These can also be found up around the Throne of Kil'Jaeden in Hellfire Peninsula. I came across atleast two nodes up there while doing dailies.

You can find these in BEM, south of orgrila in one of the forge camps and also in the new island of Quel'danis(sp?) by the dead scar.

There is a single node of this in The Isle of Quel'Danas and shown on the map. I was just confirming that it is real and it's not a strange Wowhead error.

Since 2.4 released I have yet to resist a single poison debuff. I didn't see this make it into patch notes so I assume its a bug.

Since 2.4.2 I haven't received the poison debuff a single time from these. Not in the patch notes, bug perhaps?

From the World of Warcraft PTR 2.4.3 patch notes:

Looting a Nightmare Vine will now properly no longer apply poison when the node is looted.
