This Boss is found in Scarlet Monastery, Cathedral side (Right door/but not portal).
He is a lvl 40 Elite Boss in the Scarlet Monastery Cathedral part he has some spell's that you might whant to watch out for like he can Sleep you he can fear you but fearing is rare for this boss and he has some heavy DPS spell's and curses that you'll need to watch and dispell. Here are some of his stat's.

High Inquisitor Fairbank's

6,100 Health
2,566 Mana
and he is a level 40 elite in Scarlet Monastery Cathedral Side.

To find this boss when you enter the Cathedral room through the Big Door of the Cathedral you will see straight ahead Scarlet Commander Mograine a level 52 Elite and to the Left and right of him are pathway's leading into seperate room's on each side. He is the farthest room on the Right Side of Scarlet Commander as you'r walking to him when you get into the room the far Northwest corner there is a lit Torch that you will need tp pull to ope na Secret Door inside there is Fairbank's.
He show's to be aggresive but he is not you can walk by him as many times and get many screenshot's of him anywhere really, So do not stay back and think he will attack you cause he isnt aggresive.

This boss doesn't seem to have had his loot "revisited" sofar with 2.3... still all green. most other bosses have had their white/green drops upgraded to blue

Why is there an undead in Scarlet Monastery if the Scarlet Crusade hate them.

For those that don't know, High Inquisitor Fairbanks was Highlord Mograine's lead advisor who was present the day he was murdered by his son Renault, whom you fight at the end of this wing. He witnessed Renault taking the sword and shoving it through his father's heart while his back was turned. He lay still, buried under a pile of corpses, feigning death to avoid being slain by the younger Mograine.

When telling of his escape, he says, "Aye, I did. Much to the dismay of the lesser Mograine, I made my way back to the Scarlet Monastery. I shouted and screamed. I told the tale to any that would listen. And I would be murdered in cold blood for my actions, dragged to this chamber - the dark secret of the order. But some did listen... some heard my words. Thus was born the Argent Dawn..."

The bracers he drops are simply amazing.
It's also shocking that one person like this who is easily beaten by any group who have reached him, has such a long story behind him.

If you enter the Scarlet Monastery having Corrupted Ashbringer equipped and go near Fairbanks you will revive him to his former human condition. :)

If you go into his room with the Corrupted Ashbringer he gives you a long dialouge (sp) about what happened that day. He says ,
"I'm afraid that the blade which you hold in your hands is beyond saving. The hatred runs too deep. But do not lose hope, warrior. Where one chapter has ended, a new one begins.
Find his son - a more devout and pious man you may never meet. It is rumored that he is able to build the Ashbringer anew, without requiring the old, tainted blade.

<High Inquisitor Fairbanks shakes his head.>
No, human; only one of his sons is dead. The other lives...
<High Inquisitor Fairbanks points to the sky.>
The Outland... Find him there..."

However, it's currently unknown as far as I can tell who his son is, however if some lore junkie could point me in the direction of an in-game NPC related to Mograine I'd sure love to know where this is going..

Before the recent patch, this was the ONLY boss in the game that would only drop BoE stuff, and he would always drop around 2 or 3, netting most people 10-15 gold on the AH. Now he drops crap greens, that sell for like 10silver at a vendor...

EDIT: Ok, the cloth sells for 17silver, and he drops 3 different things, mybad

I am a level 60 hunter and only farm the undead side and Archanist Doan side takes about 30 to 40 mins but i usually can score 5 to 8 gold in that time every run maybe more if blues drop. I made in 3 hours which included two BOE blues 78 gold could have got more on blue sells but feeling generous at the time. Its not bad and is very easy especially for a hunter.

This guy has been nerfed, so he doesn't drop 2-4 boe items anymore. He drops 1 green(haven't seen any blues drop yet)at a time that is bop. If anyone has see what blues he can drop now, please post. I know he can drop world boes. =) I'm looking to see if he drops any bops.

Level 60s - cry me a river. My 34 Priest almost 4-manned to Herod, so I'm looking forward to some good drops for my level. Sure, every single one of you solo all four instances and sell on the AH, but I really don't think the point of the bosses is to be 3-shotted by a high-level who wants a little more money. (Nor do I think it's so that 60s can take their low-level friends through for some "phat loot", but that's an entirely different issue.) If Blizzard did nerf it like you say, us who are mid-30 to mid-40 are really the ones who lose, because there are a thousand places you could go, while not quite so many for us.

Former first assistant to Grand Crusader Mograine (Ashbringer). He was only witness to the murder of the Ashbringer by his son and escaped to SM to hide from the wrath of his son (also called Mograine). Looks like he went insane as well... xD

He witnessed yes the betrayal and murder of Highlord Mograine, but after he saw it, he went back to the Monestary and yelled it to everybody, but he got murdered by some of the Monestary, but there were others who believed him and thus formed the Argent Dawn :D

Fairbanks was Highlord Mograine's most trusted advisor, and was present during the meeting in Southshore that led to the creation of the .
Fairbanks was tricked and led along with the Highlord by his son Renault to Stratholme where legions of the Scourge awaited them. Fairbanks was the first to fall, but did not die - he was trapped and hidden under the corpses of the undead. He bore silent witness to Renault's betrayal of his father, hearing Mograine's anguished cries as Ashbringer was plunged through his heart and fouling the blade. Kel'Thuzad later resurrected Mograine as a Death Knight.
Making his way back to the Scarlet Monastery, Fairbanks told the tale of betrayal to anyone who would listen. Those who believed him broke away from the Crusade to found the Argent Dawn. Fairbanks was subsequently murdered by the remaining crusaders for his blasphemy as well as possibly showing symptoms of the plague.
Judging by his title, he was succeeded by High Inquisitor Whitemane.

Why the hell wasn't Fairbanks' loot upgraded when all the other dungeon loot was? Still no mention of an upgrade in 2.4 patch notes either. Shame.

First time through Cathedral, I fought him with another Paladin (him 36 (heavily twinked), me 38 (no twinkage) (rest of the party was fighting other mobs). Fairbanks is NOT Forsaken, just undead, so Exorcise the heck out of him (the other guy even fear'd him with Turn Undead and he just ran around his little room in circles. Pretty funny to watch). When he died, he only dropped pocket change and Delicious Cave Mold. What a rip! (I really wanted a chance at the Dusty Mail Boots.) At least he was relatively easy to kill (for Paladins at least).

He is located in the Cathedral part of SM. To get to him you need to open a secret door in one of the smaller chambers where you fight Morgane. To open the room you must go to the right chamber and use one of the candles there. Next thing that happens is that the left wall (in the same small chamber) will slide away opening a new even smaller chamber. In it lies High Inquisitor Fairbanks as if he is dead(undead actually). Once you start attacking him he fights back.

If your party has gotten this far he wont be a problem to kill. He has dropped 3 green items every time I killed him.

for those that care: One day, Mograine was betrayed by his son Rueno, the Mograine you fight in the Scarlet Monestary. As the story goes, Kel'Thuzad manipulated the young Mograine into forming a dark pact with him, promising such a grand betrayal. In the streets of Stratholme, both Mograines and High Inquisitor Fairbanks were ambushed by troves upon troves of Scourge: the young Mograine fled to a safe distance.

The battle was fought long and hard, and the High Commander stood vitorious. It was at this point Rueno took his father's sword and drove it into him, killing him. The immense feelings of betrayal and begrudging melded into the sword, as its magics were intense and well rooted with Mograine's soul. Kel'Thuzad came upon the Mograines corpse and raised him as a Death Knight to serve the Lich King he fought so hard against.

Fairbanks ran to the Monestary to tell anyone who would listen to his grave news. Those who did and believed him broke off from the Scarlet Crusade to form the Argent Dawn. The young Mograine later caught up with Fairbanks and cursed him into undeath, and trapped him in a secret corridor in the back of the Chapel

Good farmer for Rogues, 50 is probably a good level to start, 45 maybe. He's not terribly hard since a rogue can crush him, but as an elite mini-boss I wouldn't risk him. It's simple enough, stealth in, open the door, stealth to the room next to him, and you should only find one mob in there. Sap him, hit the torch, walk in, either vanish or kill the mob. Then it's a clear fight with the Inquisitor. Considering he drops fairly good greens for his level range, you can AH his drops for good cash. I've heard of 60s making 15g+ an hour like this, although it's not my farming spot of choice.

Im wondering what this guy's deal is, why is he here anyone know? I dont know why an undead guy would be hidden in the back room of a place that is bent on destroying all undead and anyone else that they think is carrying the plague. Could be quite an interesting storyline....

He will "wake up" immediately if you attack him with physical damage, but will take longer to wake up if you attack him with magic.

So have all your magic users blast him first, once he wakes up, everyone can join in ;-)

Story I've heard, from a semi-official source, is that he did indeed succumb to the plague, and is more or less imprisoned back there.

This guy always drops 2-3 pieces of green equipment per kill. Very good area to farm in the first place, this guy is just a nice touch to the (almost) end.
