Soul Shards are bop. They are used for many things like summoning warlock pets like the void walker, felhunter, succubus, and felguard. Soul Shards are also used in making health stones and spell stones and fire stones. Ritual of summoning also uses a soul shard along with soul stone. Some other spells that use a soul shard are shadow burn and soul fire.

Soul Shards can only be recived by using drain soul on a enemy and will only be given if the enemy dies while you are channeling drain soul. Most warlocks use rank 1 of drain soul due to the mana cost of the highest rank of drain soul. Also in order to recive a soul shard the enemy has to be able to give you honor, rep, or exp.

Soul Shards are a import part in a warlocks life so keep many on hand and try to gather them when possible.

For 70 warlocks, this is a fantastic mob from which to grind soul shards. The Eels go down fast, drop an easily sellable commodity (motes of water), is just a stone's throw from Shattrath, cater's to our underwater breathing spell, and is rarely overcrowded.

I'm not sure of the hitpoints on these guys either, but with a destro build, they die with Immo+Incinerate+1-2 secs of drain soul.

In the 20 or so minutes it might take to drain 24 or 28 shards, you can easily get at least 1 Primal Water ($$), and 4-10g worth of vendor trash, with a decent chance for greens.

If you have an epic flying mount, a no-effort soul shard mob is in western Zangarmarsh.

These mobs have three baby adds that die in 2 corruption ticks. Corruption, wait a few seconds, corruption, then drain soul one after another. Easy way to get massive amounts of shards if that's all that you're interested in doing.

i farm em at lvl 70 from https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/npc=18207 send voidwalker in they have 1,1k hp and as soon as youre drain life highest rank ticks once youre voidwalker will have done like 600 dmg or so basicly ensuring youll never need more then 1st tick of drain soul. Basicly gives fast grinding souls. As i spend huge amounts as DS/SnF warlock i dont care about getting some nice drops on the side i just want to get it over with mostly. (ZA today costed me 60 i have no idea how i spent that much but i did (for 6bosses)).

Spels responsible for using a lot of shards:
All demon sumons except imp.

Imo blizzard should do something for locks the reduce the soul isues they r enoying to farm hard to keep some stock of em as they take a lot of room and basicly youre stuffing all youre baggs full with these things when you go raiding.
(I would personally not drain souls in an instance as it will cut in youre dps to drain these)

Still searching for the grim reaper to sell me souls. And hoping for a bigger bag and some reduction on the soulshard cost of spells. (Dunno if 2.4 implies something like that but i do know locks can sumon people from anywhere into the instance basicly meaning well be doing more sumons and losing more souls).

There's been a lot of controversy about warlocks' soul shard requirements... Honestly I think they should stack up to 5 per bag slot... Anyone have any comments/output?

At level 10 you can get a spell from your trainer called 'Drain Soul' When a creature you are killing is about to die, you use that ability and you will cature its soul and create a soul shard. I must be a creature you would recieve xp for, so not a grey mob ewither for level or beacuase someone got first hit , and no critters like rabbits or deer.

To create a shard, the mob must die while the spell is channeling. So you want to time it to start when the mob is critical or nearly so.

The best time to create a shard is as soon as you summon your minion. Don't put it off :)

It sure would be nice if they stacked.

I'm a lvl 15 warlock and I'm having quite a pain with this cuz the Drain Soul spell takes SO little damage!

So most of the time I'll have to kill the mob with a regular spell so I won't get myself killed... only managed to create 2 soul shards so far... so I'm not even being able to use my Voidwalker... :(

Is there something I'm missing?

These come from using the Drain Soul spell on a mob. The mob must be able to give you XP (no farming level 1 mobs away from newbies :) ), and the mob must die before the channeling is completed.

Soul Shards do not stack.

it's also created by Drain Soul. it is not consumed by banish, summon witherbark felhunter, deep slumber (w/e that is) or the last 3 on the list.

Boscolio is correct till the last part, the ARE used in the last 3 on the list. He must not have his Dreadsteed. During the summoning ritual you will need to run around and fix the bell, node, and candle. If all 3 fail you will fail the summoning and need to restart. Each time you fix one it uses a soul shard you'll need about 15 shards for the ritual.

Noticed that sometimes hopping on a taxi (flight path) will refund a soul shard if I have a summoned demon, and sometimes it won't. Haven't yet figured out whether it's specific to the flight path or completely random, though. Ah, Classic... :p
