This is an extremely useful item if you can level up your engineering in time for the 10-19 or 20-29 battlegrounds. This homes in on the target and explodes on contact. While it's not exactly fast, it requires no aiming whatsoever like the other explosives, so if you're close enough to your target it's like an instant explosion. I have killed many a foe in BGs with these, and I was hated greatly because of it. Definitely a great engineering toy.

My personal favorite thing to do is to go into the dwarven starting area on my server (very few alliance to horde) on my level 61 rogre, and set these off, really fun to see little gnomes get blown up :).

I've seen the most satisfying use out of this:

I was posted on Defense at WSG, in the flag room. I popped an Explosive Sheep, and waited around, in front of the flag...

My sheep took off, and I followed it, at walking pace... It traveled up the ramp, went up to the second floor, walked over to the balcony, and exploded in a STEALTHED rogue's face, on the second floor balcony.

This explosive sheep has Slealth Detection? And it's quite amazing... I used it a second time, only to have it uncover another rogue in the far corner of the room!

I'm going to do some research about this... If this is true, I'll be using this a lot more in BG's.

When I first made one of these about 2 years ago for the Gnomish quest, I tried one out. The sheep appeared at my feet and did not attack my target, and just vanished after a period of time without exploding.

At the time, it was mentioned on the boards that there was a condition for use: the target had to be actively attacking you, as the sheep was a guardian syle pet (defensive). This pretty much made it only useful on casters.

Does anybody know if this has been changed? Or if there are other conditions for use? Also, I assume the range is about 40 yards?

Fun little engineering thing :) especially in pvp. And for the history -- These refer back to the actual warcraft games in which any sheep wandering around you can click repeatedly until it explodes.

First off, NICE. Second, after the time limit is over, does it explode in your face? Or can you use it to walk next to people you don't like (scammers etc.) and make it kill them?

ok to those who are confused with the issue "u cant tell the sheep to attack"
one it is a guardian pet like houdmaster loskely's dog whistle or a harvest reaper kit the pet does just what it says GUARDS you so its as if you had a pet but the good part is since this is a guardian you can summon more guardians sorta like the new druid talent "forces of nature" the one where u summon 3 treants to help u kill the enemy.Soyou can summon this and as many other guardians as you want to rip him the chicken the dragon the reaper and the bombling (cuz u can have 1 critter pet too) and either 1.walk around showing these things off. or 2. go kick some major @$$!

its funny you just see alittle Sheep walk towards enemy then a nice explosion. Fun to Impress newbies. Downfall. Requires Leather to make. so make good friends with leather man and make a bunch for laughs

I crafted 20 of them when rising my engi skill.
It's quite useful till level 20, if you couple them with grenades or dynos and attack only 1 mob at a time, because it's on separate timer from other explosives.
But you cannot choose the target, so once casted, it stays with you and will walk and explode on any mob at range, which can be annoying cause you get the aggro without control.

Questions: 1. It has a 1 minute timer so, this thing can be re-used over and over again?

Unfortunately, Explosive Sheep is rather useless as it blocks the cooldown on other items of its consumable group (other explosives. Magic Dust etc.). After you summon it, the cooldown is suspended and you are unable to use an item of that consumable group. This suspension persists until Explosive Sheep has been destroyed / expired AND you have left combat. It will also NEVER explode on neutral mobs, even if you are in combat with them (melee range). Its advantage is its higher damage compared to other explosives at its level and the fact that it doesn't have a cast time
