Alter is underwater at 24.23

The knife you were given when you accepted the quest needs to be weilded to kill him. The knife can be held in your offhand so if you have a 1 handed weapon it's easy.

The NPC you have to kill is only level 40 and is not elite. There's just a bunch of 36 lvl elites around there, but I went straight in and didn't get agro off one.

Cake. Did this solo with 45 priest. Swim east of the island with all the water elementals, and the altar of the tides is deep underwater surronded by elites. Didnt aggro any of them, swam down, applied catlyns blade to the altar, gazban attacks. He the turns into a water elemental himself, belted him a few times, swam up and got some breath, made sure he followed, belted him until death. easy quest. it takes longer to ge tthere than it does the actual quest. easy.

I was a little confused at first looking at the locations of Gazban. He walks the island, but the altar is underwater by the tablet that you should have collected for an earlier quest surounded by the elite murlocks. Be sure to look at dropped by ALTAR, NOT GAZBAN. When Gazban is summoned, just stay on the altar and he wont evade you. Not sure why, but i noticed that while i was near the blue glow of the altar, my voidwalker didnt want to go into attack mode. Blizzard should fix this and how he evades if you are not near the altar.

i stand there and it says 'focusing' but nothing happens...

As of today this is still bugged. we tried at least 10 times to get the altar to open and bring forth the goblin but nada. He was roaming around on the island but you cant fight him there. We gave up.

i just finished this quest

i took out 2 of the elites (one at a time)

boss was really weak even for a regular mob

solo'd with 37 shaman

Ditto to the above. Tried many times and it only says focusing, then no show by the goblin. I was grouped with a player not on the quest, and I didn't have the blade in my off hand - will try fixing those things and see if it makes a difference. Apart from that, the elites in the area are easy, as a 41 Hunter, if they don't mob (rare), and have surprisingly good money to be looted (6-8s each).

OK, figured it out.

You need to stand on the altar, completely within the circle of blue light, before you manipulate the altar. Then it works first go. It won't work if you stand next to it.

Don't bother trying to wield the knife - you can't in either hand.

And I recommend taking out the four elites in the area before you do all this - I had to do a runner the first time cuz they mobbed when the goblin went elemental on me. I recommend potions for water breathing and swim swiftness, and bandages/potions for health. Handy.

With potions, bandages and taking out mobs first, I soloed as 41 Hunter, no problems.

It still doesn't work. I've killed everything around the altar. I stood on top of it, on the side of it....Nothing works! It just keeps saying "focusing". Total waste of time.

I stood in the middle and it said "Gazban yells: What is happening? What force draws me to the altar of the tides!"

what next?
i went to the isle he is settled on, but he wasnt there.
what shall ive done instead?

I had all kinds of problems with this quest as did everyone else. I figured it out though. You need to stand on the altar and remove the "water breathing" effect. Activate the altar and then Gazban appears. At that point, you can then cast your water breathing spell etc on you. Kill Gazban (pretty easy) and loot.

Tried standing on top of the altar, without water breathing effect, all of the enemies around were killed and all that happens is, it says focusing, then nothing happens.

I just did this tonight - no problems at all.

Tried the altar on the island first *cough* and then followed instructions above - swam east - locate altar - died down, used the knife, stayed in the purple glow, killed gazban and surfaced - almost ran out of breath, but not quiet.

Job done, no bugs.

This works...

Just go right in the middle of the altar (24.23 underwater), you must be in the purple glow, when you are using the dagger

I tried tonight to do the quest and again, I click on the stone and nothing happens. WTF, I thought this thing was to be fixed can anyone advise.

ok make sure your inside the glow RIGHT ON TOP OF THE ALTER!

your cursor tunrs into the little cog right click and bobs your uncle. you DO NOT need to equip or in any way use the dagger!

solo'ed as a 39 'lock with void very easy, sorry but its true!

i tryed all day and follow everything said here and still not working but the light around the alter was blue ?

This is the problem...its bugged for some people and not for others. each account IS different. IF you're one of the accounts it doesn't work for, no matter how many times you try it, its not going to work.

Here' the real fix

1. Drop the quest

2. go back to kaitlin the blade and re-acquire the quest

3. Restart the quest

This should make it possible to actually complete the quest.

Like most quests that appear to be broken..some just have odd quirks to them and if you've done something out of step...it throws a wrench into the works.
