This will be the best weapon to have prior to the Nathrezim Mindblade from Prince Malchezzar in Karazhan for most dps caster specs.* It is a drop from the Magister's Terrace (Heroic mode), the new 5-man in the 2.4 patch (which is currently under its public testing phase).

*For some classes, this weapon is better than the Gladiator's Spellblade (which is available via honor points), but not as good as the season 2 Merciless Gladiator's Spellblade (also "farmable").

Looks kick-ass and some people will get it for looks if no one else needs it in your group. Careful Spriest's will also roll for this delicious piece because it has spell haste.

Meh spell haste is still pretty much a joke. You can't get enough without sacraficeing a lot of other stats.

Needless to say, my lock does not have the Mindblade, so yes he does have this. One run of MgT heroic and it dropped.

Considering it comes from a Heroic Instance, and not a Raid Dungeon or Badge rewards, this item is very good.

With something like Fetish of the Primal Gods it can hold you over very well until you decide to get the Nathrezim Mindblade, or even anything past it.

Also, considering thats it is a 5-Man drop, the most you'll ever really have rolling on it is 3 people (Not counting tank, and 1 dps or 1 healer). Maybe 4 if all 3 Dps/CC are caster and so is the healer, but that is rarely so. This makes it much easier to get this blade, then the one in Kara where more people may be rolling on it.

This dagger takes .3 seconds off of a shadow bolt with a base shadow bolt cast of 2.5 seconds, thus making it 2.47 cast speed.

PVP Comparison: Gladiator's Spellblade

Raid Comparison: Nathrezim Mindblade

As a recently 70 PVP Warlock, this weapon has been a huge boost towards getting geared in the new Season 3/4 environment. I would argue that it bypasses the need to purchase the Gladiator's Spellblade all together. With nearly equal stats and a trade off of resilience and 14 spell damage for 18 spell haste, the dagger maintains a lot of potential. Those not near 300 resilience should spend their points on resilience armor/accessories first instead of from their weapon.

For PVE, it pales entirely in comparison with the Mindblade due to it's lack of crit and short amount of spell haste. However as I feel most new warlocks will be carrying 'The Bringer of Death' with them into their first few Kara runs, it is entirely forgivable to run with this weapon instead. I for one only have the Jaded Crystal Dagger in my possession, and am looking forward to the Mindblade.

Edit 5/25/08:
The spell haste from this blade reduces the cooldown of unimproved Shadow bolt by .03 seconds, and Immolate by .02 seconds. Not sure how to measure the global. I believe the proper effect is 15 rating/1% haste.

the 18 haste of this dagger is clearly greater than the 18 more damage from Prince's Dagger. but the 23 Crit of the mindblade makes it better. but still a nice dagger none the less. i was raiding SSC with the s1 staff, had 3 offhands and i got this dagger the day the instance came out on real servers.

This is probably the nicest-looking caster weapon out of five mans. It's easy to mistake for a sword, and it kind of twists in on itself. Got a nice glow too.

Superficial stuff aside, I picked this up on my shadowpriest tonight. Upgrade from Gavel of Unearthed Secrets, but not as good as the Cudgel from the last boss of this instance. Sadly, it's damn near impossible to even get to Kael in a pug because of the inconsistency of the third encounter, so I picked this up to hold me over until I get it.

As a shadowpriest, haste is worthless till I have about 1200 +damage and can stack about 150 of it. Which... won't be for a while.

Finally! an epic spell blade that drops in a heroic. This weapon is awesome for casters, and the best weapon you can get without Kara weapons or better (except for pvp items, which some people don't often do). So for raiders/pve'rs, or anyone really, this weapon is not only awesome, but it's also pretty easy to obtain. The fact it drops from the easiest and first boss in a heroic and has a decent drop rate is really appealing for those who are stuck with pre-raid weapons like Stormcaller.

I play a mage, and if you're curious as to the value of the haste on this dagger, the numbers crunch out to a 0.034 second reduction on a 3 second cast. You'd need to cast 89 fireballs in a row (assuming no delay between casts, and no other sources of spell haste) to get a "free" one.

dropped the other day but had to pass. Helped the mage more then it would myself as affliction lock. O'well mabe next time.

You get a few haste items together , stack that haste and it will sure make a diffrence. Plus now that haste quickens your cooldowns aswell even more so. Nice blade even just to have in bank to build haste set later. Its hard not to look at it as such a small # kinda like mp5.
