haste rating / 15.77 = % haste.

If you have more than one haste bonus, add them together, do not multiply them. Only the hunter's Serpent's Swiftness talent, improved Aspect of the Hawk talent, and the quiver bonus are multiplicative. For example:

(27 + 37 + 37 + 27 + 31) / 15.77 = 10.08 % haste

To calculate your attack speed:

WeaponSpeed / (SerpentsSwiftness * ImpHawk * QuiverBonus * TotalHasteBonus) = AttackSpeed

For hunter with 3.1 sec Gladiator's Heavy Crossbow, 20% speed increase from Serpent's Swiftness, 15% speed increase from quiver, 15% from Improved Hawk proc, and the gear listed above:

3.1 / (1.2 * 1.15 * 1.15 * 1.1008) = 1.775 second attack speed

With normal lag, this may be past the limit at which you can still thread a steady shot between auto shots.

Note that haste will increase your WHITE damage auto shot dps. It does not directly increase the damage from any of your special attacks. However, it can potentially allow you to put more special attacks into the same period of time, thereby increasing the overal dps of your special attacks.

That said, there is the danger that your haste rating gets so high that you are no longer able to efficiently thread special shots between each auto shot. At what speed this happens will be different for every person, as it depends a lot on your lattency. For instance, if your attack speed is hasted to 1.75 sec, but due to lag your steady shots are causing a delay in your auto shots such that you are getting an auto shot every 1.85 sec, then you are wasting about 5.7% haste, or roughly 90 points of haste rating. That is a lot of lost itemization points.

Due to the non-binding nature of the pattern and the reagents for this item it is completely possible to craft this before your guild is even in BT/Hyjal as long as someone on your server is at a comfortable level. The hearts will be tough to come by, but the pattern pokes its head on the AH every once and awhile. Through this you can attain almost t6 level gear without even setting foot in a raid.

I myself secured a pattern and hope to see the hearts on the AH. Enough money can take you a long way in terms of gear.

Crafted these the other day for my newly 70 Hunter and I absolutely love them. The grind to 375 leatherworking was definitely worth it! I snagged the pattern for 650g and the two hearts for 200 a piece. (Illidan Alliance) I farmed all the primals and scales, and I think these were extremely worth it, the item you get for the price and time is fantastic!

I'd really reccommend anyone getting these, as they look beautiful and there is no upgrade until T6 :)

On a more Humerous note...
Using EP value calculations... these are better than Shaman Tier 6 for a Shaman with 2xSyphon of the Nathrezim Maces(2.8 speed)
And if you include values for the Tier 6 set bonuses... this item combined with various other BT/Hyjal quality Mail and Leather items is still more valuable.

Very nice BM spec hunter shoulders, just wish they matched some of our gear... they seem to stand out very well on me as I get multiple wsp everyday with people asking where to get them. I ended up paying 250G for pattern and 300g each for the hearts, the hearts sell for 425g each on Frostwolf, Horde. Good luck to all bm hunters/enhance shamans interested in these, well worth the gold grind.

2 Questions:

1) Just want to double check, if i want this shoulder, i need to buy the pattern myself and craft it right? I can't have someone craft it for me. True?

2) How big is the difference between Shoulders of Lightning reflexes (950 gold) vs the S2 arena Bracers? Is it worth buying at the indicated price or should i just get the S2? In short, is the performance difference worth the gold price?

according to Maxdps.com, these are the 3rd best shoulders for a BM hunter (for DPS). The 2nd best is Beast-tamer's Shoulders from Hyjal and the best is Mantle of the Golden Forest (with +10 agi gems) from Sunwell Plateau.

For being made out of mats that only drop in the Black Temple, I would expect th stats on these to be a little better. I mean, the shoulders that drop off the first boss in ZA are far superior. I don't care that they are crafting items, for BT only mats, it should be a lot better, thats all...

I just picked this pattern up for 300g and HoD are 500g a piece on our server cause there are only 2 guilds in BT. So i will probably be farming the rest of the mats to save me money.

I bought the pattern off the auction house for 275g and paid 350g for each Heart of Darkness. The rest was simple enough to get. They look great and improve my enhance shammy alot. Only two guilds on Blackwing Lair are raiding Black Temple and Hyjal now so the Hearts are gonna cost you. Some guys wanted 400g a piece. Good luck!

These are currently (Pre-Sunwell) the best MAIL Enhancement Shoulders in the game. Personally I got these a while back. All in all it probably cost me around 2k gold which is a small price to pay for having the best mail shoulders in the game for your class, despite the fact that it was an alt. I would definitively recommend these to everyone. 2000 gold takes me two days tops to acquire so it shouldn't be too much of a problem even if you're the average Joe.

Just picked up the pattern and the hearts on my server for cheap. We have a guild that has been in BT for many months now and the price of Hearts of Darkness are 200 gold from the right person. I also picked up this patter out of the AH for 150 gold.

So 550 gold total investment for the best Enhancement Shoulders in the game. If you see this pattern cheap pick it up. It's well worth it.

bought them for 1200g only 2 guilds running BT and our guilds only on hyjal the Hearts of darkness are so rare on our server there not even in the AH bought these from one of the guilds running BT the mats are easy grinding water but the HOD ARE HARD AS HELL TO GET!

Cost me 1200 for everything. Paid 450 for pattern. 350 for each of the HOD (someone had put 4 in AH bought them all then resold them in trade channel for 500 each for the 2 extra) decided to just buy the airs and waters since I made the little extra gold, and had plenty of windscales from ZA - Without doubt best upgrade for hunters, +haste = faster auto shot = less mana waste = higher raid priority. Replaced T5 with these, and would do it again.

Shoulders are awesome, got these a couple months ago, traded a lunacy deck for the pattern, and the 2 HoD's, and grinded the other mats,love the extra bit of haste, and the stats are great, will probably be using these till WoTLK, since my guild will probably never set foot in the sunwell =/
