There was a lot of this sort of gear pre-BC, such as https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=21460 Helm of Domination, and the entire Tier 2.5 set, Conqueror's. Its called hybrid gear, and its for tanking/dps at the same time.

Oh, and for the record, if agility is such a -weak- tanking stat, why is it on the "tanking" (Nether)Cleft Armor Kit instead of dodge? Paladins, Druids and Warriors all benefit from dodge, too.

These spaulders are fine for any tank. Sure the strength is rather high, and for an epic piece an MT might prefer different itemization, since they hardly compare with other epic pauldrons out there, but they still give a great 24 Agility and 34 Stamina along with 23 Defense rating.

24 Agility is just a tad less than 1% dodge for my palatank.

If people tank Karazhan in shoulders like these: https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=27847 , I'm pretty sure they'd find Dementia really nice, unless they're planning to socket epic gems into their blue shoulders.

The important thing to remember for these shoulders is that they are not designed for pure raid tanking at the height of your content.

Instead they are designed for content you outgear, or alternatively, as a DPS warrior's tanking set.
There are a number of these Str/Agi/Stam/Def pieces from heroics to make a decent tanking set that can put out a moderate ammount of damage.

alternivately get the Gladiators plate shoulders and socket them instead... sure you will loose some def but instead gain stamina, armour and some extra threat from crit ^^

I just ran heroic sethekk halls. Anzu dropped his extremely rare mount which, I lost :(, however we continued on and then these dropped!

I gladly grabbed these up as I am a tank, slapped a 15 Defense/10 Dodge scryer inscription on them and am a very happy person!!

good luck to all other warriors who need these. they are very nice with high armor and nice stamina!

just for the record horrible drop rate on this i have run this instance about 50 times and have not seen it drop once.

The set primarily seems to me to be for threat generation in heroics, whereas in a raid you don't need the threat generation because everyone has salvation and can use soulshatter or other threat reducing techniques, the same isn't the same in heroics all the time, so the extra threat helps.

I've just replaced my fanblade shoulders with these, bit more armor and avoidance at the cost of 126 health (Fanblade was socketed with 2 x 12 stamina) and I will be using them in Kara and ZA, the two raids my guild are currently involved in (we lack the tanks for 25 man :( ). And I disagree that threat isn't important in raids, if anything it's even more important, relying on people having salvation and using threat reduction skills is basically gimping everyone's DPS just cos the tank can't hold agro, and if that's the case - get a better tank.

Threat generation is always useful, regardless whether you're in a heroic or a raid. More threat = more DPS = shorter fight = less chance of a wipe.

I just got these from the Talon King in Heroic Sethekk. Very nice upgrade from the Bold Shoulders that I had. They do pretty good for PvP too, considering I'm full prot and dont have any other set for PvP except the Warchief's mantle.

hehe, same thing happened to me, other than i didnt do it for guildies. i was taking my orphan to auchindoun and some guys said they needed help with anzu and the last boss, they had cleared all the thrash. and what do u know, 20 minutes later i had an epic tanking gem, 2 badges and these badboy shoulders, that seem to be a completely new heroic mode drop, never seen em before atleast.

i hope this means other heroics have new epic drops aswell.

Found them in Sethekk Halls (Heroic mode). Dropted from talon King Kiss.
Its a small drop rate i did it manny times to get it. Talon is eazy to kill if you hide for the arcane explosion. End the Spaulders of Dementia are really good for tanking. normaly its harder to get epic shoulders for a warrior.

Ironically, they aren't bad for DPS either. Not too "Great" but the +24Agil is added AC and + to crit, so is the AC. After DPS wiped on morose this past week and I was last one standing, I was glad to be taking all the damage as a fury spec when he had 10k health left, 1 healer down one dc'ed and just 2 mages left on 2% health, I gained a greater apreciation for Armor. Much.

So... They can serve both purposes.

Is it just me, or are these basically no upgrade over shoulderguards of the bold?

Put two enduring talasites into the bold shoulders and you get:

873 armor
25 strength
37 stamina
25 defense
3 dodge
And the set bonus, if you care about it (I don't)

If you "upgrade" to Spaulders of Dementia, you:

Gain 169 armor
Gain 24 agi
Lose 3 sta
Lose 2 def
Lose 3 dodge
Lose set bonus

Eh. I guess it's an upgrade. Not much of one though.

Then again, since I got 50 rep shy of exalted before I saw the bold shoulders drop, these might actually be easier to get. Heh.

i would think these could be pretty good decent dps shoulders to, cuz defense adds parry and dodge rating and thats crucial for pvp, the 24 agility adds SOME crit rating but i have these and i strapped a 15 crit rating on them, so it went up higher than the GM shoulders, sure you lose 2 stm with these if you havent socketed any of the gems in the GM shoulders, but you have some very nice str there with these, and the crit rating will be higher than just 17, it will skyrocket to around 35 ish with the 15 crit rating. its a nice alternative if you arena teams arent doing very well

im a 70 prot warroir and i was thinking about going for these cause i ran slabs 50 times and never got the bold shoulders so should i go for these or keep trying for the bold shoulders?

i would say go for these if you have enough hp, and your block dodge and parry are in order, you can glitch pretty damn easy to dis dude from second room in the instance, so its 5 mins a run for a chance at one good epic till T4, i myself am gonna attempt to get these bad boys tommorow

same here want these big time stuck with crappy warchiefs mantle atm- done at least 10 runs and 7 successfull kills of that b*stard Talon king Ikiss on heroic mode- the freaken staff drops 4 times! which has like a )0.16% drop rate and these haven't dropped once- I am so P*ssed off it's not even funny ( spent like 60 hours trying to get this item!)

Must have ran Shadow Labs about 30 times start to finish, and the Bold Shoulders just didnt drop. Way beyond exalted with the Lower City, Four runs in Sethekk heroic and Ikiss dropped these.

Further proof that Blizzards drop mechanics suck major ass, if its over 5 times easier to get an epic item than a blue one.

A massive upgrade over my Felstone Pauldrons of the Champion, and they look rather awesome too (especially compared to my old ones)

Everything to know about these shoulders:
These shoulders have been used by tanks in Gruul, so they obviously have some value, esp. above the beforementioned Shoulderguards of the Bold. The drop rate is pretty good for an epic, and the instance itself is only ~1:30. That said, an unfortunate person would spend about 15 hours on it.... on average 7:30. Meanwhile, the shoulderguards of the Bold drop off of Murmur, last boss in Shadow Labs, which is a nice 2:30-3 hour instance. They have an equal drop rate, which calculates to 15 hours if you're lucky.... you do the math.

Put the right gems in the sockets in the PVP Gladiators (now an easy-to-get reward) and compare the two. I have both as these dropped a couple nights ago while doing the heroic daily.

Frankly, I think the argument could easily be made that the Gladiator's with the right gems are much better (once you get that magic 490 we all work on--NOT to start a new discussion either).

Perhaps when WotLK comes out, the need to get that DEF far past 490 will be necessary at the expense of stamina, but right now...I can't see it.

This think needs a BLUE socket or two something fierce.

On my prot warrior i right now have the Fanblade Pauldrons from Heroic Crypts... i have two +12 stam's in them... I'm not afraid of losing stam (because ik i would be if i used the dementia shoulders) but im afraid of losing the parry that i've gotten form the fanblade shoulders... does the dementia shoulders' agility give off parry? I cant remember, i remember dodge/block/armor... but not entirely sure if parry is in there as well

This is wierd first time i went here got these great shoulders and a few weeks ago it took one run for The sun eater sword for some reason im just being lucky.

plus yeah any one thinking of getting shoulders of the bold dont bother there worthless compared to these i ran slabs from lvl 68-70 and never dropped so i decided to get these shoulders.

These shoulders dropped for me last night by accident. What I mean by accident is I didn't join the group hopping to get these. What usually happens is you get a group together praying that your desired armor/weapon drops off of the boss you need, but it so just happened I was farming badges with a guildy and bam these drop. Everyone was like, "Grats dude" and I didn't know why lol. I had totally forgotten that these sholders dropped off of Sethekk. What I really like is the agility I'll still be able to use these when I'm not tanking.

I must revise my previous comment, i meant that agility adds dodge/armor/crit not dodge/blcok/parry, ik block comes from str. But yea, i still have no clue whether i should get these over my Fanblade pauldrons... Seems to me i should cause i get more damage mitigation out of these.

IF you have Bold with 12-stam gems, These shoulders give you almost a full 1% more to dodge, between the defense & agility, at 70. I replaced bold with them; These have MORE armor, MORE defense, Agility (dodge/avoidance is something you want...), and they look a hell of a lot better than bold too.

i'm a prot tank and i got the bold shoulders the second time i killed murmur, but i hate the stats and the looks on these so i went to heroic sethekk halls to get the dementia shoulders and every time i prayed for them to drop and finally on my 6th run these dropped, but the DPS warrior needed them too and got them and it was her first run. Since then i have runned this instance alot, but the stupid healing lgoves drop everytime! and what is this glitch? if u can glitch this boss plz tell me!
