I personally would not touch this for it lacks crit(mage), but it is a large improvement over Collar of Cho`Gal. Still, Blizzard should buff non meta-gem helms slightly.

Their theory is "its not gonna be as good as ones with sockets/meta sockets, because that should be alot better since you spend gold on its bells and whistles".

however anyone who will see void reaver will have their gear socketed, and enchanted very soon. and with good gems. Buff this and Collar of Chogal, which almost got De'd last gruul. Also the helm off Netherspite.

this helm in 2.1 is absolutely insane. blizzard overcompensated a ridiculous amount for a fairly easy to get item when they buffed this helm, since void reaver is a total loot pinata. spellstrike eat your heart out.

This head has more crit than Spellstrike and more dmg with sockets you can do miracles...
I prefer Collar cause it has more Crit and Hit that Spellstrike!

Even with the extra stats, If you aren't planning on replacing your Spellstrike pants with T5, it probably isn't worth losing your set bonus for this helm. However, if you have replaced your pants with something else, this is for sure a fantastic upgrade post 2.1.

Differences from Spellstrike Hood:

+2 stamina (22 stam vs. 16 stam + 4 stam gem bonus)
+15 intellect (27 int vs. 12 int), worth about +4.1 spell critical strike rating
1 yellow vs. 1 red socket
+11 spell critical strike rating (35 spell crit vs. 24 spell crit)
+12 spell damage (53 dmg + 5 dmg gem bonus vs. 46 dmg)
- 5% chance to proc 92 spell damage for 10 seconds

Overall, I'd say this is a clean upgrade over Spellstrike even with losing the set bonus, because it allows you to wear the tier 5 pants too, and possibly get you the 2-piece (or 4-piece) bonus (...and *while* matching the tier 5 set for mages :P)

Nice item, and well worth grabbing if its reasonably cheap.

I agree, the new graphic looks fantastic - mimicking the mage tier5 (Tirisfal), it makes the mages look precisely like the graceful and stylish Guardians of Tirisfal their order once claimed membership in. Mages' style is IN!

My guilds had 2 of these drop with the boss on farm status for some 5/6 months.

I couldn't stand my Spellstrike Hood anymore(like most who wear it)so if you have to spend big to upgrade it, go all out like i did :)

This is a definite upgrade over spell strike. With the new 2.4 isle badge loot, this + either of the 2 cloth casters pants beats spellstrike into the ground with an iron mallet. If you get the chance to replace spellstrike for this - do it.

This drool-inducing caster piece indeed drops in The Eye of Tempest Keep. It drops from Void Reaver, actually, the first boss that you'd probably down in the instance (but not actually the first one you see). It does look like mage t5, even of the same color I think. There's a post I made under the Void Reaver page containing the tricks on downing Void Reaver. His position in the instance is at the end of the leftmost tunnel from Al'ar's room.

Extremely close in looks to mage T5, but more red on the main part of it.

Got it from Void Reaver in The Eye last night. A sweet upgrade from the Evoker's Helmet of Second Sight that I've been using for about half a year.

Gemmed up and enchanted with Glyph of Power, this little baby now grants me:
+28 Stamina
+27 Intellect
+34 Spell Hit Rating
+39 Spell Crit Rating
+95 Spell Damage

As a fire mage, I can't but love it. I even like the looks of it (the mage T5 looks have grown on me).

Got this badboy last night on my Spriest. in clarification to the previous thread, Al'ar is the first boss you see, but you bypass him and go to Void Reaver first because of the respawn issues in TK.

For anyone who is suggesting this shouldnt go to a Spriest because it is a crit helm, after clearing Kara and also talent trees, most Priests are around about 15% spell hit. The spell hit cap is 16%. Not only is this one of the best crit helms out there, but it is also one of the best overall damage helm taking into account the sockets/set bonus.

Also take into account that after getting all the kara loot/effective gemming, a shadowpriest is sitting on over 25% chance to crit, and a good mind blast crit = more mana for your heaps to heal, or mana for the other dps to do what they do.

The additional spell hit on this helm also helps to maintain that 16% overall spell hit.

um blue gem use purple, +5 spell damage and + something stam i believe, i like that a hell of alot better than straight damage gems
