This will come in handy for us engineer's, as with engineering there is alot of items required to make 1 item. So yea, nice one Blizz :)

These are nice for hauling lot of engineering trinkets, or goggles around, in addition to your normal tools and parts.
They can house any item that has an engineering requirement.

This has been a long time coming for us Engineers. I only wonder if more than 1 can be equipped. This will eliviate alot of travel for mats and trinkets.

Yeah, this along with the enchanting bag. I learned both Engineering and Enchanting. Engineering is the worst. Bars, parts, devices, tools omg... It's a nightmare organizing bank space without these.

Unlike the enchanting bag and possibly some others (?), these can't hold schematics. Or the blacksmiths hammer.
Go figure...
I still have one in the bank and one on me. It appears you can have as many as you want in the bank (at least 2), but can only equip one on your person at a time.

OK This bag sucks.
If you try to equip a trinket from the bag and you're trying to equip it into a slot that has a non-engineering trinket, you'll get "That Item Doesn't Go in That Bag" or something, because you can't put the non-engineering trinket in the same slot.
I can't believe Blizz didn't think about this, and implement some sort of system where the non-engineering item goes into your first free non-engineering bag slot. This makes the bag virtually useless with things like ItemRack, TrinketMenu, etc.

You cannot put

in Toolboxes. Only thing i've seen so far that you use your engineering skill to make, yet, cannot put in toolbox.

The overall materials to make this are very simple. Either a full 20-stack of ore or a 10 stack of bars.
Bolts take 1 bar, or 2 ore, and you need 2 handfuls.
The tube takes 3 bars, or 6 ore.
5 additional bars, or 10 additional ore.
Whichever you can get cheaper, depending on whether or not you have a character capable of smelting the ore. The bag premade, or a combo of 10 bars or 20 ore. (remember, BC ore/bars are 2:1 for smelting)
You can always bring the mats to a recently 375'd (or 390'd in the case of we Gnomes :3) engineer looking to get skill-ups if you want this but are too low to make it yourself. Oddly though, there doesnt seem to be many people looking for someone to craft it with their materials very often.

This was changed in 2.1; it now holds schematics.
Kinda spooky for me; I'd gotten used to it NOT holding schematics, so when I picked up the Khorium Scope schematic and it suddenly wasn't in my main backpack I freaked out. :P

Update for what can/cannot go into this bag (As of July 15th, 2007):
- Engineering parts (Bolts, tubes, blasting powder etc)
- Engineering trinkets (Teleporters, pet callers, rays etc)
- Engineering Helms (Gnomish mind control, goggles, etc)
- Engineering Consumables (Bombs, flares)
- Schematics
- Tools (Spanner, Screwdriver)
- Battered steam tonk controller (which is received from a quest)
What CAN'T go in (which you might think would):
- Guns crafted by engineers
- Blacksmith hammer/Mining pick
- Motes/primals (Including primal nether)
- Ore/bars

This item is VERY screwy in that it is solely defined by the following statement:
1. Does this item have a <Requires Engineering>-tag?
If Yes, it can go into the box, if No, not.
What it should be is that if *any* of the following fits, it can be put into it:
1. Is it made with Engineering?
2. Does it have a <Requires Engineering>-tag?
3. Is it a Blacksmith's Hammer?
4. Is it smelted Bars or any of the Motes/Primals used in Engineering?
5. Is it a Gem?
Those would make these boxes highly useful.

In Patch 2.3, Fel Iron Toolbox will also become a component required for Flying Machine Control, an Engineering-crafted flying mount.
So, fellow engineers, if you haven't made one yet, do so. ;)

2.3 NEWSFLASH!
Primal Nethers and Blacksmithing Hammers now fit in the toolbox.
I'll check later if other primals also fit in it.
EDIT: Confirmed, all other primals and motes fit in the toolbox.

How come it will only let me use one of these at a time? I have one in my bank, and it will not let me equip one for my personal inventory. It says "you cannot equip any more of that type of item." Nowhere on the item does it say Unique-Equiped.

Contradicting popular powerleveling guides, making these seems to be cheaper for the 320-335 stretch (or 330-335, if you did fel iron bombs 320-330) than fel iron muskets.
Fel iron muskets require 15 bars per build (30 ore) but this requires only 10 bars (20 ore), and they both cap out at the same (technically, muskets cap out later but most, if not all people stop at 335 anyways to start on the stupidly cheap white smoke flares).

It can only hold materials that are specifically engineering items like bolts, blasting powder, and frames. This will NOT hold metals or schematics.

Everyone complaining about how "useless" this is obviously doesn't keep a lot of mats in stock for crafting... One of these and a Mining bag have replaced 3 Traveller's Backpacks, leaving me with 16 free slots for other stuff I can finally take out of my main bags! As for gems, I sent them all to my Jewelcrafter to store in a single Sack of Jewels, gaining me even more free space!

Useless? Not for my engineer. He just made one and put his enormous amount of engineering doodads in it, including a couple from the bank that were gathering dust.
But the best part of it? It holds bombs! Since they only stack to 10 I was always carrying just 10 or 20 around to save space, but paradoxically I'd always then think of them as too finite and "save for special occasion" to actually use. Now I've got four stacks of fel iron bombs and it's AWESOME LIKE A NINJA. And I have room for a few more stacks, I'm going to go on a mad bombing spree.
Bottom line
: It frees bag space in main inventory, frees space at the bank, and ENCOURAGES engineers to use their trinkets and bombs and pets and cloaks and helmets and whatnot. I love it.

At first I thought it was a waste of a slot, but when you think about it it lets you carry all of your reflectors, trinkets and a ton of grenades.
Also, if you're lucky enough to get ahold of one of those new injector schematics, you can turn healing/mana potions into engineering items and carry them in your toolbox too.

Some of us Engineers carry around a lot of parts at one time *cough* (Don't ask), and this slot would be really useful for a lv 70 Engineer who doesn't kill mobs all the time, so he doesn't get 2 much loot, and whenever you do a dungeon, you can take all your bombs or grenades out, and put what's left in the box, including the box, into the bank. At least that's how I see it.

It'd be nice if Blizzard made this a 20-22 slot bag that has 16 "regular" slots, and 4-6 "engineering only" slots. I know that sounds weird, but it'd be pretty fair, I think. People w/o engineering would have to pay far too much for it to benefit, and people who ARE engineers would get a nice benefit without it going overboard. This same idea could be applied to the mining bags and other bags...with 16 or so regular slots and 4+ specialty slots.

These can be stored in toolbox:
-Grenades, bombs
-Engineer crafted Trinkets ( Gnomish death ray, cloaking device, shrink ray, battle chicken, mechanical dragonling...)
-Engineering member card
-Parts used in crafting: Fused wiring etc
-Blasting Powders
-Engineer's tools: Arclight spanner, gyromatic micro-adjuster. Not mining pick!
-Gnomish mind control cap, goblin rocket helmet (and probably other gogles-haven't tried those)
-Some non-trinkets: World enlarger, Snowmaster 9000 (but not snowballs)...
-NO mines, NO elements, NO gems.
Personally I use it, I love it.

I found a high lvl engineer to make this for me and it is invaluable! I immediately filled it with 22 items.
I am always forgetting my arclight spanner or the screwdriver thingy and have to walk from great forge to bank or worse, old town to bank. Pair this with a mining bag, and all your engineering will be much quicker and easier!

To the rest of you who saw this and thought it looked terrible, remember, you can add bags to your bank slots. Even if you don't carry around a ton of grenades or trinkets, you can utilize this by putting it in your
bank
. You may not be able to put ores in it, but I doubt I'm the only one who has tons of
casings, bolts, gizmos, modulators, frames, widgits, blasting powders, cores, tubes, transformers, stabalizers, wirings, triggers,
and
converters
floating around in my bank. Knowing where to look when you need a part saves time and a headache.

so an engineer needs a blacksmith hammer to make many items, and yet it just won't fit inside my toolbox. Toolbox...hammer, doesn't seem like a huge leap.

This would've been a much more clear and also less rude answer than the one before it:
The thing to remember is that the items that can be placed in a toolbox are items created by engineering- just being needed by engineers won't do it.

This thing does exactly what it says and what I expected. Think I will need two of these though since I always have tons of trinkets and bombs on me and all parts for my bank slot along with the engineering tools.
Weird the hammer doesn't fit into a toolbox though =P
But then again its fair since other professions use it.
But so far I can only dream and imagine all the fun stuff I'm gonna do with my engineering things now I can carry it all with me! =)
Give us more high trinkets! We need more stuff that can backfire on us BLIZZ!
Have a nice y'all

I have found it useful...also they are one of the cheapest things to make to level (good for you when you at that level and you can also buy one really cheap when you are a low level engineer since people dump em off when they level)just keep an eye out. Often they can run cheaper than a 12 slot bag too.
IT is great if you are leveling and like to keep your mats. I keep it full with another little 12 spacer for gems and bars etc. when im in IF i just trade it with my quiver and one bag..makes it easy..never have to wonder wher estuff is....and mine is usually pretty full.
I keep one of each pet ive made too.

Blacksmith Hammer can not go in Engi back althougt it is required for most enginering recipies.
Nor can "Security DELTA Data Access Card" although it requiere mining 1 to use :p
on the other hand Arclight Spanner, Gyromatic Micro-Adjustor.. can.
Also recpies can.

this thing is useful to save space in the bank, store all your components, extra bombs, etc. also, now that you can't skill-up by reloading the mortar, use this grind from 325-335. 20 fel iron bar = 2 toolboxes = cheapest thing there

yes well im a person who loves engineering i have TONS of engineering stuff HECK i have 3 OF the bags They are GREAT yes i cant hold some of my stuff but thats fine what i would do is but oen or two toolboxs in the bank get a minning bag so that when u are just doing quests and dont want to keep holding on to stuff but want extra foom for when u get ore ull have tons of space now when ur doing a dungeon go for the engineering bag and put all ur suff in it and if u as lucky as me that when we get to the next lvl we are farming and splurging on making it higher go with the engineering bag

As of patch 2.3, engineering bags can now hold the Blacksmith Hammer. There are probably other things they added too, that I haven't checked yet.
Whoever says they have more than one of these is wrong. You can't have more than one equipped, and that includes your bank slots.

You buy it from Wind Trader Lathrai in Lower City Shattrath. (northeast portion just past World's End Tavern entrance) It's technically a limited item that must respawn on a timer, but I've always seen one in his inventory whenever I go to him. He also has "Schematic: White Smoke Flare" and "Schematic: Adamantite Shell Machine" which are also limited items and require engineering 335 to learn. (toolbox is 325)

In addition, I just found it from the engineer supplies guy in Silvermoon City as well. (also has other 2 schematics as in previous post plus "Schematic: Adamantite Rifle" which requires 350 engineering) Dunno about alliance schematics.
