This is one of those infamous "WHY WON'T YOU DROP?" sort of quests. Yes, it does drop randomly off of one of the non-elites standing near the towers in the Searing Gorge. Yes, everyone does seem to have a friend who got it on the first try. You might be that friend. Just keep trying. :P

The worst part about this quest is I was able to get a blue BOE before I could get either piece of this quest to drop.

It may be a good idea to pick up the "Curse These Fat Fingers" quest from Thorium Point to do along side this one. The Heavy War Golems required for that quests tend to hang around these guys.

Its a good idea to start the flawless flame quest line... after the golem oil and hearts of flame you get a quest to find 8 daggers (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=3443) The lookouts drop these as well.

Farmed these lookouts now for over 3 hours + the elites in the towers, and the quest item has not dropped... Im starting to get really agrivated...

1.6 billion lookouts for this one... least i had double xp and was getting 600 a kill.

You can find the lookouts at base of the large towers surrounding the cauldron.

Towers are easy to spot and theyre also marked on the map. theres 4 towers altogether with 1 to 3 lookouts each and sometimes golems.

dont go up the towers though, theres nastys up them =)

I found that looking at the Southern Tower has the most guys. Rather easy to do quest. If you look for the Lookouts.

It took me 6.5 bubbles of xp to get the spyglass to drop. Persevere and it'll eventually drop.

I think the best way to get this item is by going to the SE tower where there is a bridge to the tower because that's where there are more then just 3 lookouts.

this quest took me well over an hr the first time i did it..quest drop rate was horrible

second time over this time with my alt...got it on the 9th or 10th kill! :)

The southwest tower was the spot for me, killed 2 lookouts and got the spyglass....had to kill 4 smiths for the Tuyere just to the north of the SW tower

This is the fourth time doing this quest and it has never taken me this long to get the drop. I've been at this for over four hours. This quest isn't even worth it. They should improve the drop rate or take it out of the game.

there is no way you got 3 lvls off this quest nub... btw just keep on keep on it may take a while but what do you have better to do...... other quests that give less exp?

Guys! No way u could lvl 3 lvls while doing this quest. to get the smithing Tuyere from the smithers is easy. I got it in my 4 or 5th kill. But the lookouts Spyglass is not easy.. i killed around 18

its a great quest. the truyere took a lil time to get but, alot of kills is XP. the lookout i got after a cuple kills. cool quest =D=D=D=D

There are 4 lookouts at the first tower.
There are 3 lookouts at the second tower.
There are 4 lookouts at the third tower.
There are 6 lookouts at the forth tower.

Total 17.

None of them drop the spyglass, even after killing them over and over for close to 2 hours.

Stupid quest.

This is a joke...I now been killing for the past 2 hours and not 1 of the items dropped....I dont get it how comes it takes 2 or few kills for some ppl and hours for others....sort it out Blizz!

It drops from the lookouts around the base of the 4 towers. It's not very common.

Cleared them all twice to get it.

Had some brilliant luck here. The first one I killed dropped the outhouse key, then the last one there at the top of the tower dropped the spyglass - all in one trip! ^_^

The Tuyere Dropped for me after about 5 kills but this Spyglass took me about 30+ kills. Really bad luck there for me. I went south to catch the two towers at the bottom of the map. Total of 7 spawn between the two. About 5 mins respawn timer.

I have been farming these guys for an hour or so and no looking glass has dropped. I have got from them, however, some Hibernal Pants and Gossamer Pants of the Falcon, a Conk Hammer of the Spirit and two Mountainside Bucklers. At this rate I might earn enough to pay myself a nice little mortgage in the Bahamas and retire in style before my forties, but I fear I might angst the feeling of never having completed this quest before my passing time...
Oh well, just give me the money. I'll be fine.

Bottomline: prepare yourself to invest some quality time in getting that darned spyglass.

If you can get a group. I was with a Paladin and we both could loot the spyglass after it finally dropps.
Everyone camped two towers and after both were done we switched to loot.
