Arcanite bars you get from transmuting a Thorium Bar and Arcane Crystal by an Alchemist with a skill of at least 275. It does share a global cooldown with Primal Might so It is kinda hard to get somebody to do it for you these days (in the level 70 era). The dense grinding stones can be made by a Blacksmither,

Indeed, whoever wrote that enchanters make 75%+ profit is clearly not an enchanter. The only way that I make profit is if I have the materials myself, or I make about 2g profit per enchant.
Also, on Arthas (Horde side), Icy weapon costs about 50g+.
Essence of Air: 25g
Essence of Water: 17g
Icecap: 50s
Small Brilliant Shard x4: 8-16g

All in all it comes to about 50-60g for an enchant of Icy weapon. No enchanter makes more than a 5g profit on that one. The cost of the arcane crystals needed to transmute truesilver to arcanite also pushes the prices to costs that enchanters can't afford. I'll have to pay about 100g plus tip to whoever makes the rod for me, OR buy all the components and tip the alchemist and then the blacksmith. Not to mention the Large and Small Brilliant shards I need (40g total), Greater eternal essences (30g), Illusion dust (17g), and Golden pearls (20g) that I'll need to farm/buy before I can make an Runed arcanite rod. Check your facts before you insult enchanters.

You know what burns my arse? Most of these other professions make these items that us enchanters need and they freakin gouge us for it. Then they expect us to give them an enchant that took 3 months of farming reputation to get all for a measly 5g profit.

We are the poorest profession out there and I move that we all get together and collude on pricing. I am not selling a +15 Agility enchant for less than 80g. I think that there should be an Enchanters union.

Also, there are tons of Chinese farmers out there that are screwing the price of everything on the AH. They buy up every item and then put it back out at higher prices so if you really want the item you gotta go to ebay and pay real money for virtual gold.

Blizzard should fix this crap.

I just recently hit 300 enchanting, and i never have enough money. to those that think enchanting is a great way to make money, picture this. an enchanter gets his mats by DESTROYING items. we cant make money off of them after they are destroyed. we cant mine, or skin, or do whatever to make money. we are hard pressed to scrape by, unless we have really good friends or get lucky.
we dont make a lot of money in our profession, because people do stick us for things we need to do this or that enchant that we have to go out of our profession to get. on my server, i make maybe 1-2g on each enchant, and none of it is profit, cuz i lost 3x that just getting the mats while farming.
instead of knocking on us about how muchg we charge and whining about how much we make, pick up enchanting for urself. try it out. and see how much money we make.

I am a lvl 60 mage, w/ 300 enchant and 300 tailor. Being a true enchanter (not just a DE'er), is tough without tailoring. I got most of my enchant materials from making green items and DE'ing them. As far as drops and rewards, I stuck with the plan of vendoring all green weapons (cause you get the most for weapons), AH any rings or weapons with good stats, and DE'ed everything else. I did not have to buy any items to get to 300. Once you get around lvl 225 you can start selling the enchants. Now that im 300 I no longer have to spam Trade channels, and I will DE almost everything and sell it in the AH. A lvl 50+ item that vendors for 1g may DE into 4 Greater Eternal Essence, which I can AH for 20g, the worst DE will be 1 Illusion Dust which still sells for 1g in the AH. I only keep enough materials to do enchants on my own items, if someone wants an enchant, they got to get the materials them self. I've been able to by my epic mount, by materials to make my epic robe, and still have money left over.

The 1.9 Wizard Oils are a nice add on to.

I got sick and tired of having to rely on others to help me out so I made enough characters to ensure self sufficiency. My blacksmith can mine nd make all the rods I need and my Enchanter enchants all the boe items i can send him in the mail. All of my toons feed each other and they are all much happier campers than my first lonely character. So try creating alts that can help you out in the areas that you get frustrated in.

I think enchanters should be able to create their items and sell them as wares, like in the ah. For example, like an armor kit. We could create the item and it becomes something tangible that someone can buy and place on the item of thier choice. That way we don't have to sit in the cities yelling out what we can do.

K, you have to farm alot, and spend alot of money to get your enchanting to 300. Not to mention buying the patterns and the expendsive arcanite rod.

BUT

Once you have it all, there will be no more farming ever. Mace a macro, post it couple times a day, and meet new handsome people =D

I'm working on a pricelist atm, for buying and selling enchants. My idea is to have standard prices for each mat, and have a standard profit of leik 15% or somthing on all of them. No more fuzzing around. This is how much im buying it for, this is the price. End of discussion.

I only read like 15 comments or so. People who make money enchanting has put atleast 300 gold into enchanting before making ANY money! YES 15 agility and riding skill are money makers, but 15 agility is a 300 skill enchant, so the enchanter spends so much money before he hits 300. RIDING SKILL on my server's auction house has costed 180+ gold & bid only for about 2 months now! so if she makes 5 gold each enchant...then shes losing money, unless she sells a ton of enchants a day..which is unlikely!

btw the arcanite rod is a pain!

I just wanted to suggest that if someone wants to level alts so she/he don't have to pay others for arcane crystals, thorium, herbs, etc, they should make a hunter an herb/miner. Even though you'd have to change the tracking on the mini map I think it's a good idea. Here's why:

The hunter can go to nasty places to pick up rocks and flowers that others might have trouble with (perhaps not a rogue or druid kitty) because you can feign death and get rid of any mobs chasing you. I've made tons of money farming the demon area of winterspring just running around and FDing on nodes.

Just an idea not saying this is the best way or only way, but it works very well for me.

I seriously LOL at you guys who are dissing Blacksmiths.

Let me clue you clueless people in on something: Blizzard has completely borked the BS profession since TBC. I'm currently at 325 BS on my Paladin, and I haven't used a single piece of my own equipment since Green Iron Armor. I haven't been able to sell any of my goods in the AH since Jade Serpentblade / Frost Tiger Blade, and you know why?

The pre-Epic recipes have retarded materials (4x Hearts of Fire FTL!) to make craptastic weapons that are inferior to Greys you can pick up in Outland, or even the White weapons you can buy from Vendors in HH!

Since Farmers are constantly taking the veins of Ore to sell on the AH, a BS has to work hard to farm their materials (and like I said above, they arent farming METAL, but the other retarded components to their recipes).

So if I want to try and make money on stuff that WILL sell, simply because other people need them for their profession, then I have every right to do it.

Instead of QQ'ing, go roll a BS. If you think Enchanting is tough, try a profession that makes stuff that nobody else wants/needs.

My main toon is a 70 BM Hunter, great farmer, 375 miner and 375 skinner. Wealthy to a fault.

I've been working on a priest lately. Can't farm worth anything, at level 50 made 300 Enchanting, also 300 Tailor. Now he's level 60, he couldn't afford either of his mounts (thank you BM Hunter).

Without spending 100g on the Arcanite Rod, (had all the other mats in storage thanks to my farmer) I think my priest may have generated more gold than he has spent. Not so sure after that.

Enchanting is a great profession. I had some cool enchants at 300. It can be a poor man's profession if, like me, you don't do it right. If you enchant your stuff all the time, enchant your stuff multiple times just to level, don't AH your extras, you won't make money. On the other hand, if you have a charitable guild, watch how you spend gold, deal with people's crap, you can make money at enchanting. You can also make money just DE'ing stuff.

Was gonna do a firey, my shards, for 10g for some guy. He tried to get me down to 5g. The shards alone were worth 25g on AH. Long and short, he accepted the 10G price, then proceeded to screw around till I just wasn't interested in waiting anymore. Ended up burning those shards putting a firey on my Priests staff. Used it on a staff, that I will never use in combat. Not the way to make money, but my staff looks cool.

so where do you learn the recipe to make the rod? nobody "thot" to mention this on the page for "blacksmithing" (not enchanting)? curious.

Arcanite Rod

Once you have reached lvl 300 in enchanting you are required to make a Runed Arcanite Rod to enchant higher lvl spells.

In order to create this rod, you first need to obtain an 'Arcanite Rod'.

This rod from what I understand CAN NOT be learnt from a recipe.

Your only two options to get this rod is to look in the auction house in hopes somebody has put some there or find a BLACK SMITH with high skill to create this for you.

Black smiths are able to produce this item you need, and the mats for me were not cheap. So I suggest you scroll to the top of the page and look at the materials you need to create this item because it's almost certain that no black smith will make this for free.

With the 2.4 patch, Arcanite Bars no longer have a 23-hour cooldown so Alchemists can X-mute as many as you need. So the price for Arcanite Bars (and thus Arcanite Rods) will drop substantially. Most of the cost for Arcanite Bars, thus far, has been paying the Alchemist for his/her super-long cooldown.
