Despite what you may see here, it does take three Lesser Essences to create a Greater Essence. What you see here is actually a quirk of the way Blizzard handles the spell. On Blizzard's end, a two-step process occurs:

You use the first Lesser Essence, destroying it in the process.
A spell is cast, which destroys the other two Lesser Essences, and creates a Greater Essence.

This spell here--step two--is the spell that gets listed here on Wowhead.

I received 7 Greater Mystic Essence and 14 Vision Dust from D/E of approx. 14 Green Silken Shoulders, which is a level 31 item from the Tailor recipe.
