You get this from completing the quests in Searing Gorge, Kalaran Windblade (I think is his name) starts a chain of quests to obtain this item. After you get this item, save it, it's useful later in the game when you get to Burning Stepper. In a cave to the Northeast of the zone, is a dragon in a cave. He'll ask you to get the Molt, after you do that you'll get a BRD quest to alter it.

There's another way to get a molt, if you don't want to try to fight the frenzied drake - do the quest chain for the disguised black dragon (Kalaran Windblade, standing by Squire Maltrake). At the end you get a chest that has a Black Dragonflight Molt in it.

Well Black Dragonflight Molt can't be used for that quest... u need Altered Black Dragonflight Molt that is provided by the NPC...
I completed this quest and i've got bouth on my bags... Black Dragonflight Molt is still there so i think this is junk...

as of 2.3 all you have to do is set fire to the 4 towers surrounding the cauldron, bring it back to kalaran and you get to open the chest. dont have to fight any dragon.

The Dragon is only a 54 nonelite now so you should have no trouble fighting him solo.. Soloed with 54 Enhance Shammy

do the 3 quests given by the 2 guys where this chest is to open the box , getthe treasure chest open it up and get a few low lvl items and the > Black Dragonflight Molt > this item is for the " A taste of flame" quest that you get from the dragon kin > Cyrus Therepentous in the Burning steppes.

You don need no stinkin coordinates! Just follow the East wall until you hit a cave almost in the NE corner of the Burning Stepps. He's in there!

i'm lvl 55 warlock and i got it in 1 try alone.
just prepare for the battle and go loose on it.
its not much more then the usual black dragons you see around there.
but be carefull anyway.. it was a very close call to beat him.

No one can say definitively that you need a second one for some reason. But no one has found a use for a second one or else they would have posted here. Chances are you can safely destroy your second molt as well as the Torch of Retribution.

Is the molt only obtained after doing the quests and either opening the chest or killing the spawned dragon or are there other beasts this can come from and what locations (coords) can they be found at? I've been all over the searing gorge and burning steppes and haven't found one yet.

its used for an quest it starts in sering talk to the two guys as you jump down from thorium point after you burn the towers dragon spowns kills the one in the left then you see the box next to the guy that got killed loot the box you get the molt you dont have to kill any dragon to get it take it to the burrning steps to the cave at the top left corrner of the map talk to the dragon he will give you an quest to go in brd and kill an elite. im 48 now and still cant talk to the dragon yet think you have to be 50+ cuz brd is 51-60.

I had the molt for a long time after doing the quest in Searing Gorge, but i destroyed the molt, thinking it was a leftover from another quest that i didn't need. I soloed the Dragon at level 54 warlock, with my voidwalker tanking. It took a few tries to finally get him, he drops a molt and you turn it in to the guy in the cave.

Yeah... things have changed alot since the last patch... with most quests being easy to do.
So if you deleted the molt you got the first time... just kill the dragon and get another one is soloable at about 50+

This is a small guide on how to get the molt if you did not do the quest earlier in Searing Gorge.

As of the 2.4 patch many of you have seen that black drakes are lvl 50 NON ELITES - THE SAME GOES FOR THE DRAGON THAT DROPS THIS MOB. Before the patch he was an elite mob and required a few group members... but not anymore

In order to spawn the dragon (lvl 54) you must 1st aquire the quest and be next to the giver. Then talk to him and say you are not worthy. He will then allow you to fight his minion to show your worthyness. WAIT! Warriors/rogues/anything that needs the 1st hit be warned, you enter combat immediatly when you click the option. hunters that means place your trap too.

Hes fairly easy and only cast Flame Buffet and Flame Breath (only seen casted after 3 buffets) and has about 3000 life. He has relatively low armor and low melee.

You can also get a Molt by finishing the Trinkets portion of the Set Them Ablaze quest line. The Molt is in the bag you get as the reward.

Cyrus Therepentous is at 94,31. In general if you want to find the start location for a quest, click on the name of the start NPC, just under the quest name in this listing, if there is one. Of course, some quests start from objects dropped at random by mobs, and in those cases, you just have to keep killing the right flavor of mob. For some of them, you will get very tired of seeing the object over and over. (For example, the robot chicken escort quests...)

Talk to quest giver to summon a lvl54 Black Drake with roughly 4k hp, The drake will debuff you to take more fire dmg but other than that it's pretty easy, will drop the Molt to turn in quest. Killed as a lvl55 feral druid.
