My guess would be that Tauren and Trolls are 2 races that naturally (or with help from the Well of Eternity) evolved. But chances are that during the time of the Old Gods and Elemental Lords the world was just too chaotic for any complicated life forms to develop.
Don't forget there is quite a time gap between the Titan's departure and the early history of the known races.

Trolls were the first 'Non-Titan' race, and it's possible that the Night Elves and Goblins are their descendents. Where the Furbolg/Pandaren/Gnolls and Quillboars came from... that's the question.

Don't forget the Aqir. :)

Seconded!
It seems that every sentient race on Azeroth evolved into what they are today by means of some magical influence. I'm not sure about Goblins, but I don't know much about their origins.
Wowwiki time!

This should help.
And the Night Elves evolved faster due to the Well, but the Troll's seemed to avoid that.

That depends, the Well affected the entire world, remember, that's why it was created. So the Trolls (and Tauren) most likely evolved faster than normally possible because of the Well's magic.
I could be wrong, but it seems like the most logical explenation to me.
Thanks for the link, but I knew most of that already. I was actually talking about proof for a connection with another race, something more than slavery. Although it's interesting that the Trolls had dealings with 3 other races in early history.
Edit: I should probably say that it's interesting that the Tauren were the only ancient race not to encounter any of the other races (besides perhaps Centaur depending on the timeline).

I'm not saying it wouldn't have an affect of course, but it was probably more of a background effect as opposed to directly like the Night Elves.

I agree, but I doubt that the early Trolls had any idea of the Well's nature. Even so, they were probably frightened of it, being the superstitious race that they are.
And correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Sundering occur right after the Trolls managed to sepparate the Aqir? Meaning there wouldn't be a Well anymore anyway.

No, the original Troll Aqir war was way before the War of the Ancients; it was just the two empires, nowhere was it mentioned that any of the other races had anything to do with the Troll's breaking the back of the Aqir and splitting them in two.... which means the original bugs... blast there goes the C'thun theory.

Ah, you're right. I shouldn't have closed the wowwiki tab without checking first. hehe

Quilboars spawned from the blood of Agamaggan
