Suggestion: Observer Slots

On my work to work this morning, this idea occurred to me and I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before.
The premise is that one can be invited to a 5/10/25 man as an "observer". Being an observer does not take up an existing slot, but you can choose to follow one of the other players in the group.
This would be good for guilds to show new guild members how they run content and would be more interactive and fun than watching a grainy you-tube video set to Death metal.
Thoughts?
EDIT: For clarity... you're either following another character "chase-cam" style or free-floating. You don't "exist" in the instance and cannot interact with it.

Don't know if it's feasable, but I like the concept.

I'd love to have placed it in the official forums, but I can't. *ahem* :)

You would have to consider bandwidth, but purely spectator mode no one should have to recieve data from you other then simply that you are connected.
I once suggested a VCR option, to where you could save all the game data during a session and then go back and replay it locally and even be able to distribute the saved file. This way you could go back and analyze things from different angles at any time....would be way better then a log parser.
I suggested that not so long ago too. It would work much like driving-games store their "replays" (as in, they store positional/vector data, not the end-result screen you see like FRAPS would). This has advantages in that you'd be able to view the "replay" in-game, and from any position. Learning boss fights would never be easier!
I don't think there would be any bandwidth concerns. Certainly, the observer wouldn't be pumping out data to the other 25 people with gearscore/recount.

They'll still manage to stand in void zones.
Edit: Also, now instead of being bored out of my mind raiding for hours on end to MAYBE get a single piece of loot I can be bored out of my mind watching someone else do it and now I get no loot?
I think you may be missing the point a little. Whilst there are online boss guides and certainly you-tube videos, nothing gets you prepared for a fight than being there. This tool would allow you to "be" there without actually taking up a raid-slot.
Sure,
you
may be bored out of your mind, but others will use it as a learning opportunity. :)

sounds like an epic idea, though the extra players gaining loot, although nice personally, would overall be an awefull idea, as newbs could be easily boosted, and the players working for that shizz would be rather %^&*ed, if they lost loot to a spectator.
Glad you like the idea :)
Observers, however, would be no more than that. No loot, no cash, no contribution. Just a spectator and that is all.

good idea but i wonder how much bandwidth it'll take...but they'll have to limit the amount of observers you can add.
i know 40-man was high on the bandwidth...so letting each one bring their own is too much. maybe 1 (for 5man), 2 (for 10man) and 5 at max (for 25man)
