Note: this is not a paid post or advertising. I was finally able to buy my D.Va hoodie this morning and confirmed the code worked on preorders in addition to the regular merchandise :)
Note: Clearly Advertising.Even so much that it required a second post within an hour, explaining why it was okay, which didn't invalidate, the original claim that it wasn't advertising. Attracting public attention to a product, promotion of goods, listing both price and a discount for the goods. It's clearly advertising, which your company has a vested interest in promoting hence the discount code.
Would be nice not to get ads onto our Discord via the webhook... If it starts being a regular thing I will have to remove the integration. Just letting you know.
Guys, there have been numerous other times when new merchandise (Pepe anyone?) was mentioned in news posts, and nobody complained.
As much as it pains me to say it, these hoodies are probably 100x more popular than Pepe since they got like 5k RTs when announced and crashed J!NX's site yesterday :( And we have a sweet discount (this is not part of an ad deal, we just get monthly discounts, similar to some streamers that are passionate about Blizzard), so it made sense to post about, similar to other merch posts about cute WoW plushies or annual sales. J!NX and Blizzard launched some other merchandise last week which didn't seem as relevant for us to highlight (eg Old Gods TShirt) but this seemed pretty cool, and we've gotten a lot of positive feedback (emails, Discord, Twitter) that we made expensive hoodies a bit nicer for users. We won't highlight every random piece of merchandise but there is a subset of our users that are die-hard Blizzard fans which have appreciated the merchandise posts over the years, so we'll continue to highlight relevant products related to Blizzard games--generally WoW, but also popular things like these hoodies or Collector's Editions for other Blizzard products. We appreciate all the feedback :)
I don't have a problem with products being advertised in the Wowhead news stream. It just feels a little (for lack of a better word) creepy when it's being fed right into our Discord channels. And that really is the root of the reason why I've got a problem with it now, and not in the past, as I've only recently started using the webhook. I understand the technical hoops you'd need to jump through in order to separate these types of posts from actual news about the game(s) for the webhook, so it's definitely not straight forward to fix. What's posted on the news stream is your perogative, I'm just saying that if it continues I will need to remove the webhook integration, because it's not what I was hoping it was going to be. I just felt like it was worth to give my feedback about it.
I have to wait until 2018 for a junkrat hoodie? Not fair....
I need that D. Va hoodie... but I don't pull off pink.
