Today we've got a wrap-up of the tier 5 raiding DPS rankings. For the absolute highest parses and most damage done, there is less diversity than there was during tier 4. Arcane
마법사
s are hogging over half of the top 200 spots across both Tempest Keep and Serpentshrine Cavern. The remaining spots are taken by Destruction
흑마법사
s, Fury
전사
s, and both Survival and Beast Mastery
사냥꾼
s. For this analysis we have used data from
Warcraft Logs Statistics
pages for Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep, accessed on 1/26/2022 for both Phase 2 and Phase 2.5.

Disclaimers and Sources
The data for DPS ranking is taken from the
Warcraft Logs Serpentshrine Cavern & Tempest Keep Statistics Page
for the 95th percentile. There are a few things to take into consideration before we delve into the data:
Talent specializations that are believed to be weaker are generally played less, which causes them to appear slightly weaker than they actually are.
Performance-oriented players tend to choose the classes and talent specializations that are believed to be the best. This further increases the gap between the top and bottom talent specializations.
Considering only the 95th percentile means we are only looking at the top 5% of the representatives of each class and specialization - 19 out of 20 players will not perform at this level. This is done to filter out the people who enjoy the game without fully maximizing their character's effectiveness in raids. That is a totally okay thing to do, but not what we are interested in here.
We are looking at only boss damage. Classes with strong multi-target damage abilities will move up in the rankings when considering overall boss and trash damage throughout a raid.
Most of the absolute top parses involve multiple
피의 욕망
,
정신 자극
, and/or
마력 주입
in the same fight to certain players. It is very difficult to compete with those parses if you are not in a similar situation. A weaker class with that treatment would very likely outperform a stronger class without that treatment.
Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep DPS Rankings
Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep, Phase 2.5 Boss Damage
Arcane
마법사
s continue to show their dominance in damage output, similar to the end of tier 4 content. The Arcane Mages offer very strong single target damage with
비전 작렬
as well as multi-target damage with
신비한 폭발
, truly a complete package. Like all top performing individual damage dealers, they would not be where they are without their support classes.
마법사
s,
사냥꾼
s,
흑마법사
s, and
전사
s all need their
주술사
s,
드루이드
s,
사제
s, and others to enable that insane damage output.
While Arcane Mages have undoubtedly the highest potential damage output, they require more support to reach that potential. Arcane Mages are well known to be sponges for
정신 자극
s and
마력 주입
s - a Mage without those would not perform as well. This explains why raids
don't
tend to stack absurd number of mages, because they cannot support too many with the buffs they need.
Some of the worst performing support roles in terms of individual damage output are the Shadow
사제
and Elemental
주술사
, but every good raid has at least one of each for the very valuable debuffs they provide. For support classes like Arms
전사
s, Combat
도적
, Enhancement
주술사
s and others you really only want one or maybe two of them in an optimized raid setup - just enough to provide the buffs and debuffs you want.
Phase 2 vs Phase 2.5
Blizzard decided to nerf much of the content in Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep on December 14th. The nerfs were so substantial that this lead Warcraft Logs to treat pre-nerf and post-nerf parses separately. Many boss abilities were removed or reworked, most notably
여군주 바쉬
would no longer use
설득
to mind-control players. There were also massive health nerfs of up to 40% on bosses, making kill times much faster.
With faster kill times and fewer mechanics to worry about, it would not be fair to rank pre-nerf parses against post-nerf parses, and that is why the distinction between "Phase 2" and "Phase 2.5" exists on Warcraft Logs. These are the health reductions on bosses introduced in Phase 2.5:
Hydross the Unstable: -10% Health
The Lurker Below: -28% Health
Leotheras the Blind: -16% Health
Fathom-Lord Karathress: No Change
Morogrim Tidewalker: No Change
Lady Vashj: -20% Health
Al'ar: -10% Health
Void Reaver: No Change
High Astromancer Solarian: -33% Health
Kael'thas Sunstrider: -40% Health
Surprisingly, this doesn't really shake up who is on the top rankings for damage dealers between Phase 2 and Phase 2.5.
마법사
s dominate the top rankings in both cases with
흑마법사
s,
사냥꾼
s, and
전사
s close behind. Without a doubt, higher damage per second numbers are possible in Phase 2.5, but the records for Phase 2.5 are actually
lower
than the records for Phase 2.
Many players saw the announced nerfs and viewed the time as a "break" - they were less motivated to do everything possible to do as much damage as possible in easier content. Another big aspect of setting records like this is luck - getting an above average number of crits separates a good parse from a great parse. The whole of Phase 2 lasted much longer than Phase 2.5, so players simply had more chances to score a super lucky parse and set records during Phase 2.
I'm sure everyone will be back at it again when Black Temple and Hyjal release to claim the glory of top damage dealer in one of the most iconic raids of Burning Crusade!
Speed Run Raid Compositions
While some players like to compete on boss parses and boss damage, others prefer to compete on speed clears of the raids. They compete to clear the raids as fast as possible, and certainly a huge component of that is dealing damage. For speed runs, damage to bosses matter just as much as damage to trash. Unlike boss parsing, no one is waiting around for cooldowns to become ready for each pull.
Looking at the raid composition of the top 5 speed clears of Tempest Keep and the top 5 clears of Serpentshrine Cavern in Phase 2,
흑마법사
s make up a massive 23.6% of all players in these top runs, with
주술사
s close behind at 20.4%. Almost every run has exactly 3
마법사
s, and all the runs have exactly 2
사제
s - one Shadow, one healer either Holy or Discipline.
흑마법사
is by far the most common damage dealer to find in a speed run - but often losing the top damage dealt to a
마법사
backed up by a Shadow
사제
and a Elemental
주술사
. A good example of that is in <Overclock>'s 42 minutes 20 seconds clear of Serpentshrine Cavern. The top 10 damage dealers are Mage, Mage, Mage, then six Warlocks, then a Fury Warrior finding his way into the top 10 rankings.
Do you think Black Temple and Hyjal will have a similar showing with
마법사
s and
흑마법사
s dominating, or will
전사
s and
도적
s break through to the top with the power of the
