I don't know how that's even possible...
Possibly, the internet will run out of possible domains, but then, there's a lot of ways to make a domain name.

For those that are interested in the technicalities..
Its not actual 'space' that we are having a shortage of, its IP addresses. Basically with all of the computers, cell phones, palm pilots, gps tracking systems for cars, pagers, satelites and every other device now a days that can connect to the internet we dont have enough IP addresses available for all the devices at the same time.
The current protocol used for giving addresses is called Ipv4. It uses a 32 bit addressing and allows for 4,294,967,296 unique addresses. THIS is what we are running out of. Between the addresses given to the companies for thier internal networks and all the ones used by all our computers and other devices it will be a big problem.
The solution for this is a new protocol that is now being introduced, but will not be available widely until 2025 - it's currently supported in Vista tho - called Ipv6. Compared to the Ipv4 which allows for only 4,294,967,296 unique addresses, the Ipv6 that uses a 128-bit system will hold 340-undecillion (34, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000) addresses!
That equals out to about 27 million addresses for every man woman and child currently on planet and will ensure that we will NEVER run out again :)

2025? That's a bit pessimistic. IPv6 has been around for a decade and its proponents have been trying to mainstream it for almost as long. The growth and acceptance of intranets sidelined it, but as India and China advance, they're going to force the issue and probably drag the west along, kicking and screaming. I imagine IPv4 will be around until 2025, but by then I expect it will be lurking in dark crevices, just as AppleTalk and IPX are today.

i like the technical stuff but also address the weirdo internet born stuff... like that whole "is not a truck lol its a series of tubes" i never understood what that ment, where it came from and more importantly... whos clogging my tubes with porn?
edit: also if we are naming dates of stuff to happen, youll be lucky to know that the mayan calander ends on Dec. 21 2012 which would be my 23rd b-day if i am correct... for those of you who dont know the stuff they said about the mayan calander, that means the end of the world happens then

I believe the news about the internet running out of space were based on the fact that popular content like streaming videos takes up a lot of bandwidth, and that bandwidth is what might be running out - not IP adresses - which IPv6 will take care of as koldawne elegantly elaborated. :) YouTube alone is probably taking up more bandwidth than anyone predicted would be the increase to today five years ago.
