Actually, both feral dps and boomkins are rarely seen in raids. Most druids raid as resto, because of the ease and superiority of resto druids. However, Boomkins tend to be more prominant than kittey simply because no one expects boomkins to do alot of dps so you can stink and still get invited for the 5 percent crti. A bad Feral kittey is so easily spotted and the rotation is so much more difficult that most people won't go in that direction.

Generally tanks and healers are MUCH more wanted then any dps. Between feral and moonkin there really isn't much of a difference. As long as you do good dps you should be about equally wanted in both. Both have nice raid wide buffs, the moonkin one is maybe a bit more popular then the feral one but it doesn't really make a real difference (on my server at least).

Feral DPS is quite hard to nail - but quite rewarding if you can get it down. A good feral will out-DPS most people in the raid, whereas a good boomkin will be an average DPS. That said, both are powerful enough to be brought to a raid, and unless your guild is elitist to the point where they kick classes they think are lesser, you're going to find raids as a druid DPS in either spec.
Yes, you will find raids faster as a tank or a healer, but in a 25-man there's 2-3 tank slots, 5-7 healer slots, and 15-18 DPS slots. That means roughly 2/3 the raid is DPS, makes it very easy for there to be an open slot for you as a DDer.

Moonkins are probably wanted more because of their buffs, and the fact that they are ranged (useful in quite a few fights). While moonkin buffs can be replicated on other classes, you might not always have those classes with you (for example, elemental shaman's are fairly rare as well), and you can free the warlock up to use a different curse.
The gap in dps difference between boomkin and feral has closed quite a bit ever since eclipse was changed. Feral will still outperform a boomkin but not by the huge margin it used to and boomkin has the advantage of being fairly easy to play.
If your not in a guild and trying to pug raids, your better off going for boomkin, if only for the fact that ranged dps are usually more in demand. If your in a guild, just use whatever your guild needs. If they don't already have 1 boomkin, play that role; if they do, go feral.

The choice of boomkin or feral should revolve around 2 things only:
What you want to play.
What your raid needs.
Anything else is epeen fodder.

How wanted are moonkins in raids? They are ranged dps, but are they wanted more than my mage or my warlock? Why take a moonkin over a feral?
I rarely see moonkins in Ulduar or ToC. So I don't know if that means they are hard to play, hard to gear, still a bad support class, or just not fun for people period.
At similar gear (and skill) levels pure dps classes will out dps the Moonkin generally, though in 10 mans this can be quite the opposite. The only real reason you would be forced to go feral over balance is if your raid is melee heavy, and vice-versa.
Moonkins are a lot more common (from what I've seen at least) ever since 3.2 made their dps more competitive. 3.2 made the main rotation easier, though somewhat more complex to gear for. Moonkins have always been the kings of caster utility, since we provide so much in one spec, which is fantastic for 10 mans.
In terms of fun, I can see where the spec might have lost some of its luster in 3.1, where our dps fell off, but while we still suffer from the "hybrid tax", I'd say the spec is just as fun to play, if not more so.

Moonkins should be more wanted!
13% spellpower bonus.
3% hit.
3% haste.
5% crit to casters.
I guess it depends on how many casters you got in the raid, but one moonkin doesnt really hurt to have.

I think boomkins are wanted in raids - but on my server there are a lot of them. Usually a well geared boomkin will be in the top 5 of dps. When I tag myself as dps in LFG - I'm asked if I'm boomkin- I say yes and the invite comes. Why do they ask? Maybe they don't want a melee kitty?

there's a lot of both of them, when duelspecs came out everyone that was resto grabbed boomkin offspec, everyone that was boomkin grabbed resto offspec, and everyone that was a bear grabbed boomkin or resto...wheren't a lot of cats then...once cats started tearing the meters a new one a good number of the above mentioned and fotm rerollers went cat but that didn't hurt boomkin numbers a lot
as far as buffs
cats bring 5% melee/ranged crit and if specced (usually only bears will be though) healing on those crits...can OT very briefly if needed
moonkin bring 5% spell crit and 3% spell haste...can heal for a while if needed
aside from that moonkin has arguably the easiest "rotation" of all dps except for maybe a ret pally or elem shaman and is ranged which generally means less likelihood of dying from the proverbial fire and generally more dps uptime
cat has the most convoluted "rotation" out of everyone generally meaning a large portion of the cat community will fail to reach their full potential in the run and as a melee class has a higher risk of the proverbial fire and less dps uptime
they're both quite attractive but it largely comes down to the melee vs ranged dilemma and most often having more ranged is a superior choice
also, the more casters you have the less attractive a melee becomes as ranged debuffs tend to increase ranged damage not melee and melee debuffs tend to increase melee damage not ranged, with 19 ranged and 1 melee the melee will get the short end of the stick on capitalizing on available debuffs/buffs and vise verse...yeah it's a lesser deciding factor but it does help for the raid to compliment itself
in the end a properly geared/played cat and a properly geared/played moonkin are both invaluable assets to a group/raid
