Umbrafen Lake is INFESTED with them.
As chonchu said , grab an underbreath potion and you'll be ok.
The drop rate for me was ~35-40%.

Not hard to get at all, as stated before.
Drop rates seem to differ alot though, some people get them fast and some spend ages.

well they are located under water in the umbrafen lake. It is located east of the cenarion outpost for those who don't have choordinates, and for the people that do, 74,66¨. the drop rate is incredibly low and the eels so dps dmg that hits about 22dmg per 0,5 sec. GLHF trying to get annything.

I had perfect drop rate here. Killed 10 of them and i got 8 filet's. All u have to do is to dive in to the lake and you will see them all arround the lake.

Is it possible that, if you don't finish this quest, you could go back to her and get the underwater breathing pots whenever you needed? If so, it might be worthwhile to keep that opportunity open.

The drops we'rent aweful... but it would have healed alot if i had a under water breathing potion... it still got through it. just keep grinding ^^

In 30 minutes of straight killing I had 37 shredded wyrm wings in my bags when I decided to give up on this quest as I hadn't had a single filet drop yet. The only redeeming thing about killing these guys is that I had 18 motes of water drop from them.

Probably bugged out on me. I noticed that a number of the eels were evading.

Its not as bad for a rogue. You just have to realise that ultra high attack speed is your enemy. So to lower your attack speed just one-hand dagger the eel's or use a slower weapon, this will minimise the damage received and will make you less vunerable between fights, so no more as devastating adds.

The very first eel i tried to kill took for ever,every time i got it down to about 8% hp left it went away for 3 seconds re-generated it's health in some way and done it over again.

I'm a hunter and my pet never attaked it when it was getting hp back

75,66 is the best place to find them... there's a pretty big dip in the lake where you can find 10-15 of them swimming around. Use the underwater breathing potion and just hang out there... they'll spawn about as fast as you can kill them all.

Of course the drop rate is low and aside from a few Unidentified Plant Parts, they just drop vendor trash.

wow one in 3 kills? even a 10% drop rate?

Something happened in 2.4 then cuz I got 2 in 10 minutes. Maybe the next 6 will go faster. Dump this quest until you get to 70 for money... or skip it then as well... too much of a pain to do for no reward.

I have done this quest on a solid 5-6 characters (dating from the current patch all the way back to TBC beta) and I can report with certain confidence that the 30% drop rate cited by Wowhead for the Eel Filets is not accurate. In fact, I cannot see it being more than 5-10%.

Combine that with the speed decrease underwater and the boatload of reflective damage that the eels inflict to any character with a fast attack speed, and you have yourself one hell of an annoying quest.

Basically, if you are not one of those obsessive-compulsive types who is not happy leaving a zone until every single quest is finished, this is definitely one to skip.

Well, pretty much as others have described it. Not hard, just tedious. Probably easiest if you are a lock and use underwater breathing. No problem with spawns, there are lots of eels, but the drop rate....ugh.

At least underwater you can avoid all the hydras, and see the eels better.

If you are no warlock, but are high enough level to do this quest, go solo to Gnomeregan, kill the first boss there and get Hydrocane you cannot wield staves, you can get level 8 water breathing potions at ease. Both help you doing this and similar quests really easy.

Took me 10 minutes to complete the quest... the drop rate for me was more or less 50%... really easy quest.

There were a good bit around 77, 65. Drop rate wasn't bad. I probably killed like 14 or so to get all 8

I had horrible luck until I realized that you should be killing only Umbrafin Eels. Once I did that, I got my 8 Eel Filets at a 50% drop rate.

Find them in Umbrafen Lake, SE of Telrador.

Using the island (73,63) as a base is a pretty god idea. I'm a lvl 62 holy pally, and didn't have any problems clearing this. Have underwater breathing potion, go down, give eels hell, when you're running low on mana, go up on island, heal yourself up, and have manadrink,rinse and repeat. Droprate sucked for me, so i actually had to use 2 breathing potions. Be sure to do the Too Many Mouths to Feed, as the mire-thingies is in the same lake. They're al along the coast, Just pick one and go anti- or clockwise and chop the 10 you need.

i had the most horrible drop rate for this quest, got 1 for every 10-15 eels i killed, the quest overall took me about 45 mins.. but, on the bright side got some nice exp and a few greens as a 63 ret pally.

you can't get this quest until you've finished the marshfang rippers quest. I don't know why it doesn't say there's a prereq for it.

also, they seem to have upped the drop rates -- it only took about 20 minutes of killing eels while interspersing with mire hydras.

exactly 18 minutes from start to finish. As usual, the meat drops towards the end of the quest in great abundance. The eels seem to have about 1/3 more HP then most of the creatures in the zone, but are still easy to kill if you kept your Hydrocane from Gnomer :)

Biggest time waster - been at now at least 5 hours. Maybe 1 out of 25 kills will drop the filet. I sure hope diva, Noraani, doesn't crave anymore delicacies. AND, make sure u have the Mire Hydra quest on log also.

Took me about 40 minutes as a 63 pally. The drop rate was pretty bad for me. I had to kill about 35 eels to get 8 filets.

So you know that quest view that shows your progress on the right side of the screen. Mine kept going away because it had been so long since I got one of the quest item drops. No idea how long I've been doing this, but I've been working on the last one alone for about 15 min.

Edit - I take the time back, I popped one of the 1 hour water breathing pots. I just finished and have 24 min left on it, so It took 36 min to complete.

Easy quest, drop rate was about 1 in 4 or 5 (20%-25%)

Recommend buying water breathing potion as most of them are so far underwater that their ID's don't display unless you're underwater.

Also, can easily complete Too Many Mouths To Feed quest at the same time.

Lake at 73, 60, south southwest of Telredor, contains these Umbrafen Eels. Some drop filets. Pick up the quest 'Too Many Mouths to Feed' in Telredor. It can be done at the same time. The Hydras are in the same lake.

This quest took me over half an hour with a drop rate worse than 1 in 6. Also, AOTW or NR is useful - if you coincidentally have any.

Well, I don't know if it was just me but i noticed that if i went near the little island at Umbrafen lake (73, 63) i noticed they had a 85% drop rate for me. Before that i was searching in the open or near the shore on the outside of the lake, and they had like a 20% drop rate for me.

think quest is retarded... as a mage i have no problem with anything but i died 3 times within 5 minutes on this quest, killed 5 eels no drops. what a waste of time, stay on land.

I found jumping on one of the little islands gave me 360 degree farming capability with relative impunity when I needed to heal. I used the island at 73,64 to farm these eels from. From here you could farm eels from all around the island. A side benefit is that there are very few Mire Hydras to interupt yout farming, in fact none while I was hunting for these pesky eels.

For warriors I recomend pulling with either bow or firearm and drawing the eels short of shore, then SUNDER ARMOR till you max at 5, then a few RENDS, and EXECUTE. Worked like a charm.

Yea.. It was sorta fun.. Spending the first 30 minutes with no drops.. Ended up with 5 minutes left of the elixir.. Around 100 kills. Wow it was fun. But at 1000xp per kill it wasn't so bad.. Yes, rested.

Make sure your grinding Umbrafen Lake, I spent 20 minutes in the Lagoon and nothing. Umbrafen, Bingo 1st fish earned me a filet.

The drop rates were fine for me after I used the elixer she gives you, before that i was getting nothing. fishined with 50 minutes left of the elixer.

Not a good drop rate, but not the worst. Took me 20 minutes to get all 8 filets. Very easy quest for a 'lock with water breathing.

The drop rate is horrendous, more like 15-20% at the most.

I guess it's fine when leveling, but don't save that quest for 70. Also you don't get Spirit Tap procs from the mobs! Took around 100 kills.

25 Kills to complete, annoying underwater slow quest. Not as bad as some horror stories here but I never look forward to this quest.

Killed Umbrafen Eels for 45mins, zero drop. I reset the quest and finished it under 10mins, obviously bugged.

It's good to see another fresh face here. When Haalrun and I first came to Telredor, we were the only outsiders, but that seems like a lifetime ago.

Still, we try to welcome newcomers and ensure that there's always enough food and supplies. We can never fully repay the kindness of the Telredor anchorites, but we can follow their example and extend it to others.

If you would like to help, the nearby lakes are populated with a fish called the Umbrafen eel, whose meat is a staple of our diet.
