All of these are 33-36 level and are fairly simple kills. for the amount of experience on this quest this is one you don't want to bypass. good for the grinding aspect and the quest exp.

Awesome Quest. Do not skip it. Grind it out they die Fast. got a good 6 bars into 38. The Hunters dagger was little tricky to find in the cave, but don't wimp out fight your way out. Coors are correct.

I did this solo with my lvl 33 mage, except I got some help with the cave and finding the knife, I got the knife on the first try so we didn't end up going very far into the cave. All level from 32-35 from what I saw.

I found this quest extremely boring and frustrating. Just running around with my lvl 34 hunter without getting ANYTHING. Then WOW! I got the first tusk. Then just running arround killing and again, getting absolutely nothing. The drop rate was POOR.
I was lucky to have the shadow hunter knife from the first shadow hunter I killed, otherwise I would've been bored to death.

drop rate on tusks. pretty good. :)
and pouches, got them quickly outside.
was in cave for 5 minutes. got knife after around 4 kills of shadow hunter and few other mobs.

As said above, very profitable quest. Miners should try to go kill mobs that are the nearest of the moutains for iron, silver and tin veins. And maybe even gold.

I would advice not to finish this quest too fast nor optimize it if you're interested in Silk Cloth and/or ores. First get the tusks off the concerned mobs, then get the pouches, and finish by going into the cavern for the dagger. This way you'll spend more time doing the quest, for sure, but you'll kill more mobs and so get more cloth and with a bit of luck you'll encounter more mineral veins.

The tusks and pouches dropped fairly quickly for me, but I spent almost 2 hours killing shadow hunters with no knife drop. I dropped the quest and moved on. It may not be worth your time.

I would suggest not going too far into the cave as these mobs respawn pretty quickly and patrols are everywhere in there.

Drop rates were a little low. Just have to power through it and keep killing.

The knife dropped on the first shadow hunter I saw so that was easy. The tusks dropped off any mob, but the headhunters didn't drop quite as often as the trolls and axe throwers about 50% of the time. The medicine pouches was pretty hard. Pretty low drop rate. Good luck!

NEVER both with this quest, such a waste of time. 5 minutes to get tusks, 15 to get bags, but 90 minutes getting knife. for the little exp, save yourself the time.

For a quick solution of this quest, immediately go inside the gave where you find Shadow Hunter Knife. Inside the cave you will also find trolls that drop Witherbark Tusk ×20 and Witherbark Medicine Pouch ×4.

The cave entry is hidden between some small mountains, at first it might be hard to find but near the water is a trail that leads into the cave. The cave entry is confirmed at 68, 75.

In my opinion this quest is worth it. Enough XP and a nice XP bonus from the quest reward. Worth the time.

Solo'd this as a level 32 arcane mage with a few engineering toys... The cave part was hard. The shadow hunters pack a punch when you're 32, and the drop rate was quite low. I killed 14 before I got it... Whereas, the tusks dropped from just about every Witherbark Healer outside, and I got all 4 bags from killing 10 witch doctors.

Also, I received 350 reputation with Stormwind when I completed this quest.

But be careful in the cave. When they flee they call MANY others, and it is VERY fast respawn!

...except for the Shadow Knife part. Even playing a hunter (Lvl 34), the mobs are tightly packed in the cave, and it's hard to pick out one without being rushed by mobs from inside _and_ outside the cave (they seem to spawn outside quite frequently).

Followed the directions and got all the items except for one medicine bag in probably 10-15 minutes. That last medicine bag took another 30 minutes. Talk about frustrating. The trolls drop good stuff though, silk, wool and some times 2-3 Silver.

The above setp were very useful! I wondered around killing lots and lots of these "regular" hunters, but no knife. Then i looked here and found out about the cave, and after a bit of a struggle to get in with my warrior i killed the first shadowhunter i saw(didn't mind aggro two others as well) killed him, got the knife (note: the first one) and ran out. Luckily a had two healing potions, because they followed for a while, atleast the "guards" at the entrance...

Great place to grind if your a rogue. I averaged 1 silver per pick pocket and more money and some decent things to sell from loot. You can also get quick xp if you know how to fight any humanoids. I leveled three times at 35 and got about 34 gold.

This quest is not that hard.

Tusks: Are dropped by all Trolls (you'll get them will gathering the other items so don't bother them).

Medicine Pouch: Are dropped by trolls with mana. Mostly found on the east side of near the cave.

Shadow Hunter Knife: Dropped by Shadow Hunters. Drop rate is pretty high. They stand in the cave.

for those of you who thought you had the cave and dont know what shadow hunters people are talking abou...You are in the wrong cave. I did this and killed that cave of ogres for 2 hrs. The correct cave is in the bottom right hand of your map there is a path as indicated in onother post to the mouth of cave.just south of the k in witherbark village.

OK this quest is quite challenging at the appropriate levels.

If you are like me, then you always try to do quests a few lvls higher than you are to get max exp. from mobs :D

now the 1st thing to know is that these guys will respawn like MAD! (in the cave) so watch out, and keep moving.

HEAD to the CAVE at 68,74

1- Witherbark Tusks x 10 get em from mobs on your way to Cave... high drop rate on melee mobs.

2- Witherbark Medicine Pouch x 4 from mana-using mobs on your way to cave... *(if not, then once your done in cave, head north and kill your way around the lake and you will get em all ! )

3- Shadow Hunter Knife will drop from mob in the cave

additional considerations:

go through the whole cave, its Great xp as you will have to fight your way in and out! also good drops to sell at ah.

solo at 34 as a well-geared shammy.. not easy at all, but memorable and a lot of fun :D

drop rate for me was LOW took two hours with level 33 shammy....I did level to 34, but even got in the cave and kileed MULTIPLE shadow hunters and never did get the knife! The re-spawn rate is ridiculous, so be careful. I will go back with help and try the cave again....This got old!

Im a level 30 mage and this quest is TOUGH, well getting all the medicine bags and the tusks are pretty easy... but i cannot kill any of the level 35's :P so i cant enter the cave without being pummeled down... i had to grind to level 31 on trolls then complete the quest. Overall the quest was pretty easy, if you were level 31 and any class i beleive it would be a simple achievement.

Not too bad as a lvl 31 rogue. Fellow rogues, if u head in the cave and up to the right theres an area u can drop down into with a large pillar at the back. Heal/buff whatever back there, step out and its a easy 1 mob pull w/ranged. Got knife second kill.

I soloed it at 34 (warrior). Tusks from about every 4, pouches from every 6 (maybe), got knife on the very first one :)

Quest is listed as 36, but my 33 druid was able to solo them also. For the lvl 35 headhunters, just use bear form if you need. The others were ok in humanoid or cat form.

Had a little less luck with the drops but as long as you're getting exp, they were giving about 150-200. So that adds up too , anyway.

killed about 6000 exp worth (at about 200 exp, you can see how many that was). finally made my way into the cave and got the knife on the first shadow hunter. they may drop outside also as stated by others, but only got from these guys while i was doing it.

The cosmos loc for the cave with the Shadow Hunters in it is 68, 74. It is up in the hills almost directly south of the southern tip of the lake.

Very simple for a LVL 35 Warrior.

Map coordinate 68,74 is correct. I got my knife from the first Shadow Hunter in the cave.

Be warned that they do flee when at 10% or so hp left and oftentimes attracts another to you.

The knife drops ONLY from Mobs inside the cave...the only location where shadowhunters are found. Witch doctors drop tusks and pouch... the rest just drop tusks. Took me awhile so I dont think the drop rate has changed of course drop rates are super weird in this game. Some times awesome ...sometimes SUPER slow. Still have to find that rare but he drops lame stuff for lvl 37 Warriors--->straight to the AH! I would suggest going straight to the cave .

This quest is more difficult than others because the mobs are green and blend in with the surroundings. Its easy to pull more than one accidentally, especially for an inexperienced player. Also, they run, aggroing others.

Location: Arathi Highlands, southeast of Go'Shek Farm. 66, 68

Medicine bags are dropped by witch doctors. All types drop the tusks.

The knife is only dropped by shadow hunters, who are only in the cave. THe cave is hard to fine without coordinates.

The cave is at the south end of the village. 68, 74

Man... For me the knife took for ever to drop. I got everything else pretty quickly though- outside the cave and a tad further in the cave, but no knife. :(

This quest's tediousness must have been lowered dramatically because all the stuff dropped relatively fast for me. When I entered the cave the first shadow hunter i encountered dropped the knife. Getting the other stuff for the quest took a short while, dropping a pouch or tusk every 3 kills or so.

quick note, the cave can be easily found by starting at the southern most point of the lake and heading straight south. i got 4600 exp for this as a lvl 40 rogue. not bad at all.

The tusks drop generally outside witherbank village, the medicine pouches are dropped from the witch doctors, took me about 20 kills to get the 4 pouches, but watch out for them running when down to about 10% XP. The knife is dropped from just inside the cave, pretty quickly. I solo'd this with my lvl36 Paladin, very straightforward and helped me with the XP to move towards lvl 37, in fact stayed round a bit just to rake in the XP.

VERY ANNOYING! As a lvl 32 rogue I can aggro at least two 34 shadows....but everytime I get close to the cave at least 4 of them pop out of nowhere and bug the hell out of me....

For those lacking coordinate stuff (like me), the cave is in the hills just south of the lake. The lowest point is almost pointing towards he cave if you look on the minimap.

I am currently solo-ing this quest with a 34 hunter and its not too bad, the mobs can get pulled out of hand sometimes (especially with an out of control pet) so like was said before have a plan-b to get away. I after going through the cave completely and killing all the mobs around the cave I have all the tusks, 3 medicine bags and didn't get a knife at all, but what i did get was a few good greens and the Zealot Blade, so have patience and and grind, its a good quest for gold and exp.

For those of you looking for the cave w/out coords. what i did was go straight SE from the Rebel Camp till you hit the mountains and from there its easy to find if you pop-up you map and look for the cave symbol.

Solo'd this quest with a lvl 40 (!) druid. Use Hurricane on the Shadow casters... that kills of their imp before they can even get a shot off.

Getting to the village can be a 'laugh'? trying to avoid spiders and level 36 raptors galore, especially if you don't want to get involved with them...however, as noted in a number of posts below, try and head to the cave, where the various mobs are...For those of you like my goodself, that do not use co-ordinates, basically, from the Southern tip of the lake near the village, head directly south, it's around there. Lurking about are the headhunters and witch doctors, both of which drop the various quest items you require. You have to into the cave to find the Shadow hunters who drop the knife, but if you around level 32-33, should prove no problem. Fortunately, I had a drop first time, so didn't have to go too far in as these boys seem to agro for miles. Personally, I cleared out the cave entrance, waited until one of them took a stroll up the slope,couple of biffs with the big fella and he was running away like a girl (No offense ladies!). Found a few witch doctors to get the medical bags and headed back across the lake, which by the way isn't a bad way out either as there are not too many mobs to deal with. One question, anyone know how those axe thrower boys can get their axes to bend round trees and over hills..amazing!

One thing every WOW player should have is a Plan B, ie. an escape route.
It doesn't even matter at what stage you are..you need it.
When monsters run away in fear, you need to kill them ASAP before they get near allied monsters. If they come within the perception radius (the same distance it takes for them to notice you), they'll attack you automatically. So either kill them or try and get away, that's especially true for monsters way above your level.
For example, as a rogue, you can either use Vanish (a skill that requires flash powder), Sprint or Gouge (make sure you head downhill immediately after the attack and jump constantly).

And now...back to the quest.
The cave is difficult to find, I agree (I haven't found it just yet) so coordinates are all well and nice, but without knowing how to read them on the WOW map, they are essentially useless. If you want to pinpoint a location for others, please use a screen-shot of the map indicating the exact location, thanks.

PS: don't expect monsters to drop your quest item on the first kill, there is such a thing as the "drop rate".

The Witherbark village is in the southeast corner of the Arathi Highlands.
The Witherbark Tusks can be found easily, any Witherbark drops them. The Medicine Pouchs can be found killing Witch Doctors all around the village, and the Shadow Hunter Knife can be found killing Shadow Hunters inside the cave south from the village's lake.

Soloed it with a level 33~34 Mage. Took me 1 hour or less to complete.

Started this tonight with my 33 Mage, killed about 5 of those creepy trolls around the cave and got only 3 of the tusks and then decided to see the cave, cleared the cave, got 1 tusk and one doctor's bag and then died a few minutes later, 1 hour in only 4 tusks and one bag but it is easy at 33/34, ding'd while in the cave, they don't seem to pull very much, just take the cave slowly, going back now to try to get the rest of the items.

Anyway, The villages are to the bottom right of the map, a little past Go'Shek farm-for those of us who don't have the cord add on. Hope this helps.

Maybe the drop rate has been changed, but I didn't have much trouble today. I would kill Witch Doctors as they would drop both the pouch and the tusks. Didn't kill more than 10 and had all four pouches.

Also, the cave is actually directly South of the Lake on the map. The knife dropped for me on the second shadow hunter.

Just a quick FYI, the best droprate (only ones that dropped for me) for Medicine pouches were from the Witchdoctors nearest the Cave enterance, in the SE corner of the Witherbark Village. Hope this helps.

Location 63,76 will be the first hut in the rather spaced out settlement. Mobs are around this area and then further east where there are more huts.

Location of Cave entrance is 68,71 (that's the beginning of the path that leads up to it). You will get the shadow hunter knife in here off a Shadow hunter.

Drop of Medicine pouches are by Witchdoctors.

Drop of Tusks by the other mobs (axe thrower, head hunter).

For me, this mission was terrible for drops, tusks were not too bad, pouches really poor, about 1 in every 8 witch doctor kills. The knife drop was very, very weak, I had to go back to Refuge Point to get more arrows, burned through over 800 of them! It took me about 70 kills in the cave (all mobs) before I got a Shadow hunter to drop. What starts off as an interesting mission becomes rather boring and frustrating. If this were real life I would be up for Genocide the actual amount of mobs I had to kill.

Got a nice 4350 XP and the 75 silver reward. So it's not all bad.

Well...this stupid quest took me 2 hours to complete. The drops were horrible and i had to kill 6 Shadow Hunters to get the one knife. Enjoy getting no drops but it is good experience, and as a level 37 Night elf hunter i got 4550 Exp so enjoy.

I think the drop rate has changed. 2nd shadow hunter dropped the knife & pouches dropped fairly often, I'd say about 1 pouch per 3 or 4 kills. Pretty easy solo at 37

If someone is looking this quest up, they dont want to hear how easy it was, or if you soloed it. good for you. *pat on back. People come here to look for information on the quest to HELP them complete it.

The Witherbark village is East, Southeast of Refuge Point, the Medicine Doc's drop the medicine pouches, headhunters drop the tusks, and you must enter the cave that is in the hills in the south of a village to get the knife.

Drop rate NP. Finished the quest in under an hour as a 33 Rogue. Just stealthed around pulling mobs on the edge of the villages, and then ventured into the cave to get the knife. Helpful posts here, thanks.

I got everything except the Knife in the boulderfist Ogre cave that is to the west of the refuge point. It took a while, cause the witch Dr.s only spawn in 3 places in the cave, but i made a lot of silver killing the ogres, plus I got to mine a lot of iron, silver, and even a gold vein once down in the cave. The only draw back I'm finding is that I have to run way down to the village just to get the knife.

Since some people don't like reading an in depth analysis of the quest I will simply start by saying that the coordinates for the Witherbark Village are 64,66 and the cave, where you will find the shadow hunters knife, is 68,74.

I thought this quest was fairly easy, I soloed it as a level 34 Hunter and I am fairly new to the game. Every creature is fairly spread out so it is really easy to lure one out at a time and kill it with no problems. I probably received one tusk for every 3, and 1 bag for every 4 or so witch doctors, and I received the knife on the first shadow hunter I killed. These fellas are worth fairly good XP for how easy they are to kill I believe I received around in between 300 and 500 for each, but I did have rested state. :c) I think the hardest part of the entire quest was walking there and back because I would aggro a whole crap load of spiders and raptors, this isn't even mentioning the horde I came across on the way. Trash drop rate. 25 kills to get the 4 medicine bags. 10 kills to get a single dagger. Can't remember for the tusks.

Like other people have pointed out, Medicine pouch drop is very bad, took me close to an hour to complete the quest.
