This is the last in a line of quests that had you killing centaur and centaur leaders the Barrens over. This final quest spawns a battle between Horde forces and Centaur forces. The Horde forces are typically overrun by the Centaur, unless you help.

In order to get Warlord Krom'zar to spawn, a number of centaur must be defeated. Krom'zar is no pushover though, he's a level 20 elite and comes with a pair of bodyguards, and there's also the rest of the centaur to worry about. Best to do this with others, and the Horde forces can also be counted on to help.

This quest can be very deceiving. It is yellow at like lvl 19, but even at a level as high as 22 it cannot be soloed without immense trouble.

Warlord Krom'zar appears on the southern side as far as I can tell, and he comes with his two buddies. The best strategy is to fight only in the south battle so as to get the upper hand with the NPC's on your team. If the Kolkar are outnumbered when Krom'zar appears, then the NPCs can help you with damage and aggro.

The biggest thing to watch out for is the casters that cast Lightning Cloud. It is an aoe attack that will completely destroy any kind of upper had that you can have by wasting your NPC's. If you are careful of that then getting the upper hand is possible.

Overall the best strategy is to just get another lvl 20 or so to help you with the quest. No matter what happens, usually 2 people can DPS him down before he kills them both.

I'm sure much easier with 2 people, but I was able to solo as a level 19 hunter. I'd recommend waiting to 20, though, since it took me a couple tries and I finished at about 5 life.

Get the southern fight thinned out. Hunter's mark a bodyguard and lay a trap. When Krom'zar and guards are fighting orcs, hit Krom'zar with a sting and then dps down the marked guard. Krom'zar and the other guard will probably kill off the rest of the orcs and come for you. Drop a trap, concussive shot Krom'zar, sting the guard and put the pet on the guard. Run away from the battle toward the south. The trap, pet and sting should kill the bodyguard, leaving just Krom'zar for you to kite using jump-spin concussive shots and a run-through wing clip if he gets too close. He'll follow you pretty far, so make a wide loop south of the road. Kite and dps using pet (taunt OFF), traps, and jump-spin sting and arcane shots.

If you play a DPS warrior it's not to rough, but it's a good idea to carry Healing pots for this, even with help.

I managed to solo it with 3% of my health left as a 22 rogue. This is a very annoying quest, I would do it with someone else if I were you. You don't even have to be in the same group.

Soloable with a level 18+ hunter by kiting Krom'zar to Crossroads and having the guards kill him. Since you don't need the credit for killing the corpse due to the banner being lootable by anyone with the quest, this is a valid strategy.

Soloable as a mage level 20+. Just keep the adds to a minimum and when he spawns drag him into the crowd of friendly NPCs.

If all else fails, sheep his caster guard and simply kite him and the melee guard to XR.

Call me a liar if you want, but this quest is quite easily soloable as a level 17 hunter.

I completed it without getting hit once, I just used a mana pot.

Kiting of sorts, he and his body guards run the same speed as you, so get maximum distance away from him, shoot and keep running towards xr, no need for concussive, use all your mana on arcane shots and keeping him stinged, he needs to be at 50% max hp when you get to XR so when the guards kill him the kill counts as yours(That's if you want to loot him ofc, you could just hit him a couple of times as you don't need to loot him to finish the quest).

Soloed by level 19 druid:

entangling root on him, kill one add.
entangling root again, kill the other add.
entangling root untill you are 100% health and mana.

Get in and fight him down to around 50%, do the same thing over and over again, took about 3-5 minutes.

This is a fun quest, I've always enjoyed it. Why there is no reward we'll never know. Lots of XP and loot is nice however.

I just solo'd as level 20 Fury Warrior. Make sure you have plenty of NPCs alive on your side, then target and kill his guards first. If he comes after you, hamstring (or other slowing effect) and run, he will eventually aggro back to the guards. Go attack him again and repeat if he keeps chasing you.

For those who didn't do the quest right away.

To start the event, just simply talk to him(Quest Giver) and ask "Where is Warlord Krom'zar?"

And you'll see couple of Horde Defenders and Kolkar starting to appear. West of the bunker your at, to be more specific.

If you're lazy as me and have a higher leveled character beside the one you're doing the quest on you can just go with the quest-char to the place of the event and start it. then you log on your higher char and kill the centaurs. log on the questchar again and loot the banner piece. Presto :)

If you can find a Healer this quest is a breeze. I did this with a Warrior at 19. When Warlord Krom'zar shows, shot him from a distance, you can then kite him and only him off to a safe distance were it is only you vs him. That's where the Healer comes in, keeping you alive until his Guards return to the main battle. It's not nearly as easy as having a high lvl help you but it is one way to do the quest.

I solo-ed it at 18 as a druid. It was very easy, just stay behind your own NPC's and then pull him, use Entangling Roots/ any other kiting ability- and the NPC's will damage him while he runs to you. Run away while he chases you and eventually the NPC's will damage him enough for you to finish him.

Soloed as a level 20 warlock. Killed off his two buddies and ran away, kited him to an unoccupied area and fear-dotted him to death.

Elementary warlock stuff. It took me a while to do it because killing off his bodyguards is hard without getting killed, and I ran desperately low on both health and mana (I had to use a minor mana potion and a healthstone, and I had still life-tapped myself down to empty) but I did it without dying.

Crippling poison for kiting, bring down the casters first so you can kite the elite and his melee adds.
If you kite them over to the spawn point for your allies, they will assist you.

(I advise crippling on both weapons, or they wont proc fast enough for you to survive)

Just soloed this as a 20 BM hunter. Was easier than expected. my pet tanked it till almst end then i got him trapped in fire and when back and back shoting at him till he died..

Dont waste your time with this quest unless you are a twink, i tried it with a lvl23 warlock and it was green in my quest list but still seemed impossible, complete waste of time.

finished this quest in less than 5 minutes. saw another player there, waiting around don't know for what. there were at least 20 centaurs around. I just ran in and started killing as lvl 23 BE pally. believe i killed bout 5 or so centaurs, then saw Warlord Kam'zar. 2 others were attacking him. joined in, and apparently another one was summoned. so another Warlord Kam'zar appeared but he was easily taken care of. got his flag, and handed in the quest! guess you should do what the other guy did, wait around till maybe someone else comes along =]

I must have done this quest on an off-day for the realm server.

I am a lvl 21 orc rogue. I did this alone. I killed about 3 or 4 kolkars before dying. I died 3 times. So I killed maybe a dozen. When I came back the 3rd time, an orc said "The kolkars are retreating!". I figured I failed the quest since I missed out on the action, but there was the banner all by itself. I ran over and grabbed a piece.

I kept looking around waiting to get mobbed, but it never happened. I turned in the flag piece and got the reward.

Maybe there was a glitch in the system??

This wins my worst quest in The Barrens award, and one of the worst early Horde quests(the runaround Druid quests with ten minute flights back and forth from Moonglade to TB are contenders), not only is it Really difficult early on, but it has NO reward, that's right, NOTHING, 25 silver and some EXP doesn't scale with the difficulty.

Soloed as 20 warrior, didn't even die once. Killing enough centaurs to spawn warlord was easy enough, but kinda tough when warlord + 5 other centaurs are whacking your ass :) But it was doable.

Okay so I had 30 stam and 10 ag on legs and would've probably died without that hp boost.

These are the tricks:

Don't let the defenders fall. If you see the NPCs fighting the centaurs, support them; don't let them die. I think (not positive) that if too many defenders die, you lose the battle and Krom'Zar doesn't come.

Otherwise, stay at the fringes of the battle so you don't get overwhelmed.

When Krom'Zar shows up, mark him (a Hunter is good for this). He's in the middle of a pool of centaurs. Ignore them; concentrate all your ranged firepower just on him.

If he's killed, it doesn't matter if you die -- though don't Release Spirit until _after_ he dies!

After the battle, he won't leave a corpse. Instead, look for a banner. It's tall but thin, and easy to miss. Right-click on the banner to get a piece of it.

Soloed at lvl 20 Hunter, but died and ran back 3 times before I figured it out.

Stay behind the fence, do not go out in the main battle and let the grunts do the dirty work, help them along as you can. Stay out of the battle and only kill mobs that aggro on you, it won't happen very often if you just stay far enough back. Bandage as needed. Your grunts will continue to respawn just like the enemy, so as long as you can stay alive, you'll be fine. Just watch the battle and enjoy the spectacle.

When you see the Warlord, draw him over behind the fence with whatever ranged attack, spell or pet you have for your class. I died while fighting him, but as another poster noted, if you don't release, the grunts will finish him off and the banner will appear. There were other people around when I was fighting, and I tagged the Warlord, but after dieing he turned gray, meaning he had been stolen from me. Still, when he died, the banner appeared, so it doesn't matter who kills him as long as you tag him. Just do NOT release.

This quest is not just XP, you get 25s, which is a pretty big reward at level 20. (bought two silk bags with my winnings!)

Attempted it as a lvl 19 Warrior. A lvl 31 mage happened along to give me a hand. Couldn't stop me from dying 3x in a row. Then she died too. I started playing it cautious, picking off the centaurs at the edges and constantly backing away because they respawn all around you otherwise. Me and the orcs were kicking butt on the right flank, but somehow the mage had split off far to left. She killed the character and the battle ended. Though she was in my party, I never saw the flag and couldn't loot it.

I tried 4 more times in a row, this time I always went to the left cuz that's where the baddie shows up. As soon as I picked him out he would charge me along with 4 of his buddies. I died fast each time. The last 2 times I was very careful to pull him alone, and I thought I had it in the bag. Then surprise, out of his butt comes two more baddies. Really, he somehow gave birth on the battlefield cuz they weren't there while I pulled him 50 yards out from the battle line. I killed his two bodyguards, but then he killed me.

I saw the notes on here about how you should target him, then let the orcs finish him off. So I tried that. Didn't work at all. The orcs fell like grain to the scythe. Total wimps. Kolkars slaughtered them as fast as the orcs could spawn. I didn't even see a single centaur fall, once I was dead. I think I'll switch allegiance to the Kolkars.

Insanely this shows up as merely yellow difficulty in my quest log. Yet it's eaten every potion I've had and my armor is falling off my back due to dying so many times. An interesting quest but way overpowered. Also, not easy to form a party around, because it's at the end of a long painful chain.

Ok, I have tried this quest numerous times and have been overpowered each timw (lvl 22 hunter) Every time I even get a tiny bit close The Warlord + bodyguards come wipe out pet then dropped me like ^&*! hitting ground. Anyone have any suggestions on how I could use my pet + melee, or pet + range to win this battle?

I've found the easy secret to this quest after reading another post.

Leave the Warlord alone. Just run around with the grunts killing the normal kolkar even AFTER he has been summoned. keep killing them and eventually they will retreat. All will disappear, except the Warlord and his 2 bodyguards. From here he should be easy to take down if you target him, or pick off his goons first.

NB. The reward has been bumped up to 25s and you get 2000xp, so now it is worth the effort.

You can let the defenders die, replacements come in waves, but you need to overpower the kolkar to be able to get to the boss so while you wait for the next wave of defenders, the next wave of kolkar comes. Bringing a friend or two is adviseable.

I tried to solo as 23 shaman and died 4-5 times before they retreated. They were gone before I could get back to my body. Will try these suggestions with a friend next time. Every time I'd pull the warlord alone, two guys would come out of his butt, and 1-2 others would find their way over. I would go from 80-90% health to 0 so quickly I had no time to potion or heal.

did this with my lvl 24 shammy. second try, first, died twice and it reset. The boss is hard when u get adds, apart from that, just kite him with stoneskin totems and frost shocks. i didnt have a problem with him spawning, i just had to kill for five or so minutes.

I was doing this quest with a 20 shammy (i am a 21 shammy) and we finished it easily. He did his quest first then i did mine. But instead of finishing it i abandon and restarted to fight the horde of Centaur again! The Centuar seem to have less health but hit normally. I made it to 22 and then i finished the quest. Its lots of fun. We jsut stay where the Defenders spawn setup our totems and blast the hell out of them with lightningbolts. I suggest all hordies do this quest with a buddy.

This quest requires alot of patience. You're gonna have to expect to die a couple of times but it's a quick run away from the graveyard and the fight will still be going on. Eventually all the adds will die and you can get an almost fair shot at the boss (with 1 or 2 of his guards). Just help the defenders kill all the adds and don't worry about the boss until they're dead. I finished it solo as a lvl 18 warlock.

I solo'd this as a 23 priest with no pots, but with bandages. I died a bunch of times before I realized that the Kolkars eventually retreat. So just hang back, help the NPCs out, and just figure out which side the Warlord is on. Some ppl say to heal the NPCs, but they respawn so quickly it's almost not worth it. The Kolkars will thin out as they retreat--try not to engage the Warlord before this happens or they'll slaughter you with sheer numbers.

I was able to draw the Warlord way back towards the hut where the questgiver is, and that worked amazingly well because that's where the horde NPCs spawn and then they immediately started helping me out.

To recap--be patient and don't target the Warlord early if you're soloing. This quest is really an exciting challenge compared to the other mindless stuff we normally have to complete...

there are a few good strategies mentioned above; but most of them involve kiting and/or using ranged over and over. with my warrior, this was impossible. i died at least 5 times before getting help (huge repair bill- 25s is just enough to fix your armor once you've died 12 or 13 times >.<).

you can get the warlord to spawn by either asking the quest giver or killing a bunch of the intruders.

if you have a pet and/or ranged attacks, you might be able to do this, but as a character w/o ranged attacks, it's close to impossible. at 20 i couldn't take down the 20elite that spawned even when he was by himself (but i think something might have been attacking me from behind). there's so many freaking centaur it's hard to tell.

maybe with the defender's help i could have killed him, but they seem to attack completely random targets; i have no idea how you could get them to help you. one time i died beside a whole group of them. not to mention if you hit the mob once, your threat will almost always bring it away from the group and onto you. seems really unbalanced.

imho, not worth it at all. just go to WC instead, same to better XP, less death, more money.

Probably the hardest quest I've done in my short WoW carreer. Level 21 lock. I had the help of a level 24 mage. He died, but we were able to get him finally.

I tried it by myself, died like 4 times.

I did get some useful boots as a drop, but I highly recommend you get a friend, preferably a mage who has that aoe freezing spell.

pain in the ass. it should be a group quest since the guy is an elite with bodyguards. i did it with a 19 hunter and a 20 pally im a 18 druid and we still could barely do it.

I love this quest! It may not be the easiest or have the best rewards, but it is fun and is one of the few major scale battles seen this early in the game. Usually it is just one on one combat. So, you accept the quest, then you talk to the quest giver and click on the "Where is Warlord Krom'Zar?" Then he will point and all of a sudden a big battle is happening behind you. Focus on helping the group on the left hand side. As when they get far enough the Warlord will spawn in that area. Warlord himself is rather difficult, being level 21? Elite, and having guards that follow him around. You could either ask friends for help killing him, or you could do some of the fine kiting strategies listed above. Once the Warlord is dead, all of the other Horde soldiers and Centaurs will despawn and a flag will appear where the Warlord died. Click on the flag to get a piece of it to turn in to complete the quest. Even though it isn't the easiest or has the best rewards, I would do this quest just because it is one of the fun, large scale battles in this game and you get to feel good about single-handedly beating up an entire army of centaurs. :P

Okay, there's a hitch involved - you need a decent high-level alt. I used my 70 Hunter.

Basically you do this:

Get your main to the battle area. Switch to your low-level and start the quest. Ask the questgiver where the boss is, and the boss will spawn. Switch to your high level, kill the boss, and switch once more.

The banner will stay there for a few minutes before despawning, so be somewhat fast. Get on your low-level and grab the banner. Quest over and you didn't even need a party, ^^

Some people on this site are so full of crap when bragging about how theyve completed it. I've got a level 70 main warlock, so I'm no noob to the game, but this quest was incredibly difficult to try at level 18 on my horde lock today. I don't believe anyone under level 20 could have solo'd this, you don't have the damage or armour to take on a level 20 elite AND 2+ level 18 adds.

The NPC guards attack random targets, can't hold aggro, die very quickly, and do almost no damage. In the end I resorted to just starting the quest, bringing my 70 lock in, and just wiping everything out, was nice payback for the 5/6 deaths id suffered at the hands of that elite/his adds.

In all honesty, anyone under level 20 either:

- Form a group
- Get an alt/high level friend to help
- Move on, and do other quests til youre higher.

Whoever said about not releasing when youve attacked the elite, is also full of it, because as soon as you die, if there are even any npcs around, the elite will kill them in 1/2 hits, and then after that he'll reset and get full health back. He can wipe out a group of npcs in 15 seconds, so it has to be YOU who kills him tbh.

Im sorry I can't offer any more advice/useful help, but I hate coming onto this site and reading crap from idiot 12 year olds who write "this quest was sooo easy on my level 30, the level 10 mobs were wayyyy too easy..easiest quest eva init".

I don't get where any of you are saying this is an easy quest... I have died like 20 times and keep getting mobbed as soon as I try and "help" the defenders. Another thing is the defenders have a knack for dying very quickly and don't offer much help at all. Please do not listen to those twinks that claim this quest is "easy" they are so high geared they can solo the whole mob without defenders more than likely.

This is the most absurd quest ever. It is absolutely impossible to do alone before level 20 and even at 20 itll be rediculously hard.
Save time and money and bring a friend, as matter of fact bring two...or three.
Hes not actually too hard to beat if u could gett him alone.
But you will NEVER get him alone. he is surrounded by at least 4 adds at anytime, attack anyone of them and ALL of them WILL attack you and its a long freaking run to drop aggro.
and the reward is @#$% anyways

Just did him as 23 druid. Not too hard.
I just let the defenders die a sh*tload of times before making a ranged pull on him. Shifted to bear form and dragged him back....WAY back. The defenders distracted the adds so I could take him 1on1. Died once due to unsafe pulling.

Well, It wasn't too hard i started the fight..Helped the Defender's and when the Elite guy came out i had his 2 friends on me..I Wing clipped one of his friend's Wing Clipped the Elite

Ran back while still hitting the Elite Both of his Friend's ran back, But i still was kiting the Elite..If you're good at kiting then you're ok..Just Wing Clip him, Poison..And kite away..

Just beat it as 21 Priest along with a passing by lvl 14-15 shaman who came along and saw the battle.

I started picking the invaders off early one by one using holy fire and tried to heal the defenders and shaman with renew without wasting too much mana. A good wand and the spirit tap talent goes a long way for keeping mana up. The shaman guy got a lot of aggro off me and I could flash heal to keep him going while running away and coming back, using psychic scream to fear off kolkar when things got desperate.

When the warlord spawned we managed to split them up as my fear hit the warlord, letting us pummel his minions. When he came back I cast all my DoTs and some burst damage. The thing that let us beat him was that the warlord kept aggro on me as I ran in circles and healed myself while the shaman and defenders kept hitting him from behind, dazing him so his move speed was decreased. Eventually he fell from all the punishment.

Not too tough, just takes a lot of patience. If you're doing this with a solo level 20ish, you pretty much just let the waves of allied npc's do most of the work. Try to pull 1 or 2 at a time far back. If too many pull, they don't chase very far, so just run away and come back. You get quite a bit of xp for the grinding part of this, since the centaur die pretty quick.
Eventually Kromzar will be outnumbered. Kill him last of course.

OK, after trying 5 times with my 20, I asked where he was from the dude in the fort (again) . Once the fight started, I logged out, logged in with my 61,which i had brought there, killed everyone, the flag dropped, I logged out of my 61, logged back in with my 20 and walked up to the flag and took a piece! Done.

I soloed this today as a 22 mage. I killed centaurs until the elite showed up. It took me two attempts to succeed. The first attempt failed because I aggroed 3 adds, and I couldn't keep all of them off me.

On the 2nd attempt I waited until just the right time, so that only 1 add (a Seer) would aggro. I started off with a frostbolt on the elite to slow him down while I sheeped the add. Then I scorch, frostnova and r1 fb kited him towards X-roads. I got him low enough to finish him off before reaching the guards, had to use one mana pot though.

It can take several minutes of waiting and killing the right mobs to get only one add to aggro, it should be doable though even if two aggro. Sheep one, then scroch and blink kite the elite without doing damage to the other add and eventually it should deaggro leaving you to be able to kite the elite as you please.

this is the hardest quest i've ever done. I also have tried this like twice and can't kill him cause of his stupid body guards. I say unless you can get someone to help you (and i mean about 3-4 people to help you) just forget the quest.

I followed the advice about logging in with your main and killing the centaurs. Luckily I had my main in the Barrens, a 62 nelf warrior, and when I logged on with him the kolkar died as flies. So, despite this being a horde q, even an alliance toon can make the banner drop. This is the best way if you dont find enough players who can help you. Thank you very much for this advice :)

I'm certain this quest is broken. If you play support to the very weak troops that come to help, you will pull agro like crazy and quickly be killed. If you jump into the fray most of the enemy troops stop fighting the horde fighters and go for you. If you do manage to get the final guy to spawn, he's a level 21 Elite I believe(I died so fast against him I didn't have time to see his level).

If this quest is not broken and this is the way it is designed to be than Blizz needs to include in the test of the quest that you will need guildie help or a strong group to complete it.

Soloed it at 25 lvl warrior, killed some Kolkars, then he showed up, focused my attacks on him, I got killed by his "bodyguards" shortly after he died, then got back there and found the banner.

Fastchapter has the right idea. I finally completed this by starting the fight then switching to my LV 70 Alliance Mage. He took down the warlord, and regretably a few horde, then I logged back in and picked up the banner - easy.

Afterwards my mage assisted another horde in completing and didn't receive a word of thanks - some people just have no manners :)

The location of the bunker is the first building West of Rether Deathgate the dude who give you the quest. You have to ask him where the Kolars are or something like that. Then all hell breaks out West of the burned out building West of Rether Deathgate. There must be twenty Kolars that span when you ask.

I've tried this quest about three times with my lvl21 Blood Elf Mage and the guy doesn't seem to spawn. He does the "raarr I'm here to kill you" speech but he isn't there. I never had a problem with my other characters. Is this a bug or what?

I cheated, but very easy as a 23 priest..... let me explain

I accepted the quest as a 23 priest and killed mobs till Krom'zar appeared, then I logged out and logged in with my main toon and killed Krom'zar and everything else, logged out, logged back in with my priest and took the piece of the flag and turned in the quest.

I know, I know, kind of a cheap way of doing it, but if you are trying to level an alt fast and don't have immediate help available, it's an easy to get some xp and recognition with origmar (not to mention 25 silver for a quest at this level isn't bad).

Just did this quest with three people. A level 18 shaman, 18 druid, and an 18 hunter. It was pretty easy just keep the guards alive or try to make sure not to many die and when he spawns they will attack him and his guards and then its just a matter of lending a hand and burning him down. once his guards are down he is a pretty easy fight hits rather hard. My pet tanked for most of his health as we just went all out on him. my pet ended up dying but no one else did so all in all good.

ok i noticed people talking about hezrul and krom and i am having a hard time trying to gauge the difficulty of the krom encounter.

i am on the krom stage and just EASILY soloed hezrul. Compared to hezrul, how much harder is krom?

Also; do the invaders spawn in a single location? if so, where are they?

Right, something interesting happened. I tried to solo this as a lvl 23 Priest (none too successfully). However, after a few unsucessful attempts, I recruited another priest (lvl 20). Interestingly, when we arrived (and I resurrected), the Kolkar started retreating, for whatever reason - timer or X number of centaurs die). However, the Boss stayed, with only his 2 lackeys, making the kill a fair bit easier (but no cakewalk as i was short on mana).

So... my theory is that you should hold off on the Boss until the Kolkar start retreating. Once they leave, the boss may well stay and then the odds are much more reasonable, and the quest would be definitely solo-able in the mid-20s.

I'd be interested to see if my theory could be confirmed...

I tried this on my 20 druid and died, I just logged off my druid and logged on my 70 hunter and killed him. The banner sticks around, so just log off your lowbie right in the area.

I did this solo as a level 18 shamen well equipped with alot of micro/macro skill. Its fairly easy if youve played alot of RTS as you no how to move what to use and stuff. I hit 19 when i killed him :)

They respawn very quickly after they die and they hurt a lot! The Grunts aren't much help. After killing about 5-10 of them yourself, the Warlord will appear.

I tried this quest as a lvl 25 Warlock with my Imp and it's impossible to do alone. You need at least 2 people. I had the help of a lvl 18 Hunter and his pet and we still died once, but completed it successfully.

Warning: To get the piece of the banner, you have to collect it from a post that appears beside the Warlord's corpse. Well be sure to collect it to together (i.e-If someone is dead, wait for them), because the banner disappears quickly and you'll have to do the quest again. I learned this the hard way!

Did this quest as a lvl 16 Hunter with a lvl 21 Hunter helping. (guess I was doing the helping and he was doing most the damage.)

We each died the first time the elite showed and by the time we got back all the mobs were gone, so becareful you don't have to reset because you die. After the quest was reset we were able to kill tguy and get the banner. During the process both our pets were killed, but we finished it.

Well.. first attempt. Hunter 23 and Priest 23... run into the camp... Grunts were busy. I had my track humanoids on and he was right there in the crowd. I marked him, shot a few, slowing him and some other DOT and he came running with about 5 other kolkars.. ooooh.. nooo.. . but the grunts were fighting too and my priest kept healing me while I did a stun on all of them and my pet cougar hit on them too and before I knew it.. it was all over. Amazing. Right click on the banner pole and done it is.
I guess after reading all the other messages here, that we were just plain lucky.

Level 20 quest... LOL. Tried solo on my 23 warlock, maybe should've read this before I did! Died 5-6 times, mostly through getting involved in the fight, killing one centaur the guards were fighting and then having 3 more on top of me.

Didn't even try the warlord until they all retreated except him and his 2 bodyguards, sent the voidwalker in to hold aggro, put some dots on him, started wanding... voidwalker was running out of health so sacrificed it for the shield, but only had the warlord on about 30% health when I died.

Oh well, I'll get some help before I try it again.

Nice, one of the coolest quest in game :))) When you accept it armys of Kolkars will come and atack the base 100+ mobs and guards figting them. Did this about in 5 min (20 druid with 23 shaman party).

If the centors are not there then talk to the quest giver to summon them. Kill around 10 or so of them and he will appear on the left hand side. You need at least three lvl 18-19 players if you want any chance of killing him. Timing is important. Attack him when you have some NPC grunts as back up. He is Elite so look out.

I did this last night with my 19 Tauren Druid and a friend 22 Undead Rogue, we just kinda mixed in with the grunts, got a total of maybe 7 kills (as measured by non-insta-decay corpses) out of the ~50 centaurs that came, the grunts got the rest. I never even saw the boss come in, friend killed him while I was working on some normal guys. The banner is not loot per se, its a usable (gear cursor) item standing straight up over the boss' corpse, a tall vertical flag.

As a level 22 warrior this quest wasn't very difficult for me to solo, I even stuck around to get XP from the invaders. The horde guards seemed competent enough to me and the flag was pretty easily obtained.

After about 15 minutes the invaders retreat, leaving the Warlord and his 2 guards alone. You can get them then. I hung out by the right side of the stone bunker, waited, wasn't touched or threatened, and when I saw the call that they'd retreated I swooped in with my pet. I was already lvl 26 by then but the quest would have been hard to solo due to his little army, so let them leave then get him. You can also wait for another party to arrive and get a piece of the banner after they take him down... this is easy if u plan ahead.

Just killed him as a 21 feral druid - Bear form. I tried serval different ways of killing him, I finally got it; it was too hard to nuke him on the same spot with 2-3 adds + Krom'zar on me... so I pulled and ran away while nuking Krom (nuke him kinda often so he doesn't reset), so the two (2/3) casters couldn't finish their thunderbolts, and the melee wasn't really a big problem - an ant would even hit harder. I didn't even have to heal my self :). Gl on him!

This is definitely a quest that needs to be done in a group. Even in Def. stance w/buffs from potions & friends, I was only able to kill 7 of them before I was totally crushed.

I think if I had one burner & one healb!tch, it could be done. I will try it again in a day or so & post my results.

i noticed when u let the event play out he is the last to despawn leaving him and 2-3 adds but since im only 19 when i engage him and fear another i still get crushed =(

have done this quest more than 5 times in the last 2 days........every time, the boss (Krom) has not spawned and got a message that the centaurs were "retreating"........anyone else have this problem on servers other than Thunderhorn? Is the quest bugged? or am I doing something wrong?

this is a fun quest, but it's extremely challenging. if you're a tailor you'll especially love it because lots of wool and linen cloth gets dropped. i am a level 26 shaman and was unable to solo it. i have not attempted it with a group, after dying a few times i decided to move on to other quests. admittedly, it was a fun and unique quest. you do get help from the guards right off the bat, but that still isn't enough. maybe i'll try it again once i'm into the 30s. definitely fun to watch though. :)

the cords were correct: 44,28.. but as mentioned in other posts you do have to go to the top of the tower, from the guy you get the quest from. click him and ask him where the boss is located, and that triggers the spawns.

I did that last night and fought the entire spawn at least 4 times and saw Krom'zar bite the dust at least 3 times but for whatever reason I could not loot his banner and get my piece to finish the dang quest. Still broke. Still hard.

I just killed Krom'zar today with my warlock 24. First tried soloing it but looked impossible with imp pet and without my heal and rez stones (was out of shards) and died about 3-4 times. Krom'zar always appeared W of the building where Hezrul is (next to some ruins) among the other kolkars (just need speaking to Hezrul to unleash hell). He was 20 and quite tough guy. Problem is he charges with 2 bodyguards lvl 19 and is quite intelligent coming at you straight if you start nuking him.
Eventually grouped with a thief 23 and we managed killing him and got his banner (which was standing just next to his corpse).

Very easy with a hunter, just use serpent sting on him and run to Crossroads with Aspect of the Cheetah. The guards will take him out for you and you're free to collect the banner. Just don't let the sting wear off before reaching XR or he'll just run back.

I managed to do this quest solo with a lvl 20 holy priest. I had to kill the 2 mobs that are tied to him first, lead him to the spot where the guards respawn, shield/fade and exit combat. The guards started respawning and tanking him while i got mana and health back, then i helped them out and finished him off.

Took me 3 deaths to do it.

i dont think this q is bugged most people probably look in the wrong places cos he only spawns kinda to the north of the burrow where there is most kolkar it took me awhile to drag him out and 3 attempts cos of the amount of bodyguards he has around him but thats what your orc and troll allys are for and the stormers will kill them off quick so try and kill them before thay get a monsoon on and when the kolcar dissapear with the spawning allys you will have to abandon the q and restart it (whitch is very anoying aspecially if you have got him out)after you kill him dont loot the corpse go for the banner first then loot the corpse just in case a wandering kolcar gets you by surprise you can celebrate after youve done it =)

This is pure and utter luck if you manage this quest. If you turned up as I did in innocence as a level 18 druid, think again and get some guild friends over to help you. He is Elite to start with and surrounded by a thousand of his friends.

Yes, tis quest was bugged, it took me 3 times to do it and it was easy to find him. you have to kill the kolkars that attack the buildings. the quest is fine now... after about 5 minutes of killing, i found him in the middle of the battle yelling some threats. just pull him in and kill him and right-click on the banner. Please, no replies. :) good luck!

The dude say...Look to the west...A defender has fallen..And that when things get messy.. I roamed around a bit killing right and left but i spotted him at 44.28..
He got friends comming in.. so be ready.

Just solo'd with 20 mage. Hit with pyroblast to start and take off running. Kited him and his guards all the way back to crossroads where the guards will finish the three of them off. Just have to use fire blast and mana shield during the kite. It only took about 5 tries. ;)

Warlord Krom'zar is definately a level 20 elite. I just tried this quest and failed. You also do not have to kill anything for him to appear. After a set time, he appears regardless and there are so many mobs around him, imo, it's best to wait until you see the message "The Kolkar invaders are retreating." Warlord Krom'zar remains for a while with 2 helpers. It's now or never if you want to kill him. I failed, trying it solo. Oh well. Someone missed the boat when they did not name this quest as a "group" quest.

I attempted this quest during Closed Beta, and I must say that it was just as my subject says. I tried duoing this with my shaman friend (22 warrior and 21 shaman), and we only suceeded in dying over and over and over (and over). In Closed beta there was no durability loss for death so we didn't care lol.

Don't try this quest without at least 4 people in their 20's, because you will get 5-6 mobs at a time rushing you in a tight group. It's utter chaos. The worst part are the multiple stormers who will nuke you and use their AE cloud spells as you try to fend off 3-4 melee centaurs who all rush you at the same time. It takes time and patience to get a single pull (or even just 2 mobs) to kill, and if you take your time trying to win, the quest timer will run out. After 6 or 7 attempts I gave up hehe. If anyone figures out how to do this quest efficiently let me know. They may have changed it for retail to make it winnable but I doubt it :p

Just soloed this as a 17 hunter. Pet died while I was killing some of the random mobs and he pulled unexpectedly with his 2 guards when i was at about 1/4 health. I ran like a sally and was just going to redo the quest but after about 15 seconds his 2 guards ran off and left just him chasing me so I hit him with a concussive shot and kited him to xroads. As I was about to reach xroads his 2 lackeys came running up but they were too late. The xroads guards owned them all and I got the banner. I guess I got pretty lucky.

When my friend and I did this, we were lvl 22 (hunter and rogue) I tried it solo about 3 times and got him down to a sliver before I died. When my friend came to help it was just too easy. We let the helpers do most of the work and just picked one or two out of a group until Named showed. My wife just hit lvl 22 (hunter) and we have tried several different ways to get named to spawn with no luck. Hopefully this will get fixed in the patch tonite.

The only problem is that there is no warning when Krom'zar arrives on the battlefield.
I was off to the right flanking with the grunts for about 5 minutes (give or take, I wasn't baying close attention) before I wandered off to pick off the Kolkars in another area and stumbled across him.

I did this Solo as a 36 Rogue so...not very challenging and not much to brag about.

Kinda fun seeing all that action at once though.
It's a fun quest.

I did this as a level 21 warlock.

Got my succubus to aggro him but loads of ads came in. I cast all my dot spells and shadowbolt at the elite but he didn't die and they killed me.

When I rezzed I found his banner standing next to my body. Turned out the Dots killed him.

I just did this quest solo as a 21 hunter, but it takes a lot of patience, and luck. I killed quite a few normal Kolkar's until I saw Hezrul spawn. I tried him once and he brought two friends, and crit'd my bear for 130-180. I decided not to try him again and started fighting the lower level stuff close to the houses, but he aggro'd from afar and brought his two bodyguards with him. I ran up the road towards x-roads and they were on my tail, the two body guards turned and ran back but Hezrul stayed with me, I let my bear take the heat while I hit him with a ton of arrows.

He has a ton of HP and almost killed my bear, I am spec'd mostly beast and my bear has around 620 hp's. I had to use my mend pet ability about 3-4 times and finally finished him off. Definatly easier with a friend.

Well, I had no trouble getting the guy to spawn. I just aided and protected the grunts and Krom made his presence known.

That was the only bright side of my attempts. I was trying to solo it (as 21 warrior), and got nowhere. I'll probably go back and do this quest later (despite the poor reward), but I should mention that there's no way to pull out Krom without getting his two lackeys.

90% of this quest is luck. If you're LUCKY...

...Krom'zar will be there already.
...The Horde soldiers will be competent enough to take care of the lesser enemies for you.
...You won't hit any lag.
...Invaders won't appear out of nowhere to stab you in the back.

Seriously, failing just one of these conditions is enough to screw you over. I finally beat this by the skin of my teeth as a level 24 hunter. One of the most frustrating quests I've yet encountered.

Did this solo as a lvl 22 hunter. After dying 5-6 times at lvl 20, I came back later and got lucky.

Died once after Krom'zar was summoned, rezzed and came back. Managed to pull just the Warlord while his lackeys were bogged down with the Horde dudes. Killed him, looted the banner, and then ran away from the lackeys that finally caught up to me. :p

Really, this quest is all about lucky timing.

Solo'd this one at lvl 31. Figured I'd finally go back and see if it works.

I killed for about 10 minutes then he came. A red message comes up in chat space saying something about "Krom'zar has come and you will all die....." or something to that effect.

It was kind of hard to pick him out of the crowd but once I did he was a bit tougher to kill.

His flag appears once he dies and it takes about 10 seconds to get the piece of it you need so make sure things are clear.

Only got 200 xp for it because of my level, but it felt good to finish it.

I just soloed this with my lvl 24 rogue, if you wait for this to aggro the orcs you can attack and not take aggro at first. Have a potion handy or heal yourself and keep cracking at him. confirm co-or 44,28 just west of where you get the quest.

So I thought I could solo this, cause I've been getting lucky latley.

21 Warrior with a 2h and a 1h/shield I couldn't get close. He is a level 20, but he calls like 4 other mobs with him, and they just grind you down.

I grouped up with 2 19 rouges and we waited until the garuds pulled him close, we attacked and I held aggro as the rogues went crazy on him. We all died but I got the last hit in just in case.

Healers/nukers would be VERY helpful. And for 25 silver and 1900xp this kind of sucks :/

Did this as a 20 warlock, solo. Seemed the best tactic was to pull the warlord out closer to the road, near where your reinforcements spawn. Send pet in, fear one of the adds...nuke warlord as much as possible.
By this time, reinforcements should arrive. I sacrificed my pet when he was near dead, ran warlord and his adds off...warlord ran back to re-engage the reinforcements (did not regen to full life). I ran back, summoned a new voidwalker...sent it in and nuked warlord down. As soon as warlord died, all the other centaurs ran off.

Pick the quest and then try it. I'd recommend a teammate (2 players for the quest) since it's very hard. It's possible to solo, though.

Here's how i solod it as level 20 druid: (Dont complain on "oh u damn bragger" or something like that, this may also help other druids!)

I noticed that he had lots of centaurs running nearby him, everyone aggroing together with him and his guards, when you attack. That makes about 4-5 centaurs plus the elite himself. Now, i pulled some of the nearby ones without him, the best i could, and it ended up him being aggrod with 4 adds.
To manage this, since i knew he'd aggro with those 4 adds, i let the next wave of the nooby horde guards (they indeed suck...) attack him, to fend the centaurs of for a while. I pulled one of the normal centaurs, and killed him. Then i pulled the next centaur, (i pulled with moonfire) and killed him too. I didnt even morph to save mana, and didnt need to (i've got a very good staff) - when killing those 2 adds.
It's about now they, him and his 2 guards, plus ANOTHER add, were finnished with the horde protectors. Now, i knew this would probably not be possible - but - i entangled him, and killed one of the invaders. I killed another one of the invaders, and now it was only him and one more centaur, one spamming boltsa t me. I noticed there had been another wave of horde, currently surrounding the elite, who were fighitng them all (NOTE: Fight where the horde spawn! Will help you.)
I took the time to heal myself, put my heal-over-times, and then go back in bear form (i found it best in this situation), and then finnish the elite off.

I died 3 times trying to do this, but i wanted revenge all the time, too stupid to wait to the next day and ask a friend to help me. This IS probably best to do with a teammate, specially if you're not level 20.

This took me a mana potion, but it was, indeed, possible. It also has with some luck to do, depending on which centaurs the guards kill before he spawns, you may not get very many adds on you.

solo'd as a 18 warlock. just stand on the side and target the main elite. send in VW and dot/nuke, start running when they chase you, fear him, hope you get lucky. died once.

Solo'd as 19 rogue. After killing few centaurs to the west he spawned with 4 additional adds. With help of horde defenders I killed the frontmost centaurs and then pulled the elite back. He followed me to the bunkers alone while other were fighting defenders. Next wave of defenders spawned and took the aggro, I could even restealth and do some damage, when he killed defenders I just kited away with sprint and waited for the next wave. Used bandage & healing pot.

Solo'd as a 17 priest.

My strategy was to wait until other people were doing it and just stand on the tower and watch. And when they finished, I walked up to the banner and looted it. Then I turned it in.

This strat should work for all classes.

Check the quest area. Someone else there? Ask to group. Nobody else there? Ask in chat. Nobody's doing it? Leave. Don't waste your time and energy.

How I did the quest as level 19 Hunter.
For some reason Krom'zar kept following me and not reseting.
So I kited him all the way back to the Crossroads, by using Serpent Sting and Concussive Shot, until the 2 lvl 40 Taurent Guards started killing him.
And that was it!
He died and I looted the Banner.

Soloed today as a 17 Warlock.

Keep pulling cents back to the center, just next to the quest giver hut.
Try to gather both East and West NPC spawns into a death ball.
Krom will spawn on the west side so keep the front cent spawns cleared while your pulling adds back to your NPC helpers.
I pulled by dotting one of the lvl14's tethered to him.
Spammed fear on Krom while I void tanked both 14's and kept dots on everything.
The grunt NPC's will daze Krom by attacking from behind so even with a dead void and almost no mana he was relatively easy to kite.

The best part is if you die the NPC's will continue to fight for you and stop Krom from resetting.

and you will have an arrow to take you there.

I ran into two problems. The first is that you need to kill (or maybe because it was a Monday) about 1,600 mobs before Krom'zar and his cronies show up. OK, not the end of the world and I didn't need all those arrows anyway but these are trash mobs that drop a few pennies, some low-level stuff and no XP of course. The defenders tried to help but aren't very effective. I was about to die from boredom when Krom finally showed up. He's a 20 Elite and with his two bodyguards killed my pet in about 30 nanoseconds. I started pulling him back towards the questgiver's hut and that seemed to be working. I ran, turned and hit him, ran further, hit him again, etc. just like we all learned back in kiting class and got him down to about 40%

Feeling rather proud of myself, I thought I'd drag him towards the Crossroads although he'd be dead by then. I got him as far as the tree just off the road at 47 28 (about 35% health), at which point he reset, turned and headed back to ...I don't know where. I chased him but all my shots were evaded at that point; he became the typical Space Evader. So I guess he's tethered. I missed that in the comments below.

When I rezzed my pet and headed back to the scene of the crime, thinking he might still be hanging around, there was nobody. No massive respawns, no bodies, no defenders, no offenders, no flowers, no beasts, no random wandering dogs. No sign of Krom or any of his Merry Men. Absolutely nothing except the theme from The Twilight Zone playing in the background.

The Time-Constrained Player just can't invest that amount of time in these troubled days for so little return or in this case probably a zero or negative net return. No XP, no greens, no other useful drops, no skins and no fun. Not as bad as a weekend in Peoria with my somnolent great-Aunt Sadie, but a pretty close second. I dunno - maybe it's time to go back and hang out with my old buddies in Retail. This was really a giant waste of time.

If you have a high level character on your account, even if it's an Alliance character, the following method still works and can save you from an ocean of pain:
1) Abandon the quest if you have already picked it up.
2) Log out next to the quest starter NPC
3) Log into your high level character.
4) Travel to the quest location in The Barrens.
5) Log out.
6) Log back into your original Horde character.
7) Start the quest.
8) Log out.
9) Log back into your high level char.
10) Destroy everything that moves, kill the Warlord - the banner will appear.
11) Log out (you may have to alt-F4 quit the game if in combat, Hunters can Feign Death)
12) Log back in to your original Horde, click the banner.
13) Collect your reward.

In spite of some of the grandstanding, this is a difficult fight. Moreso, the item does not always drop. I've completed this twice, died several times during the process, and nothing has been successfully looted. The Northen Barrens have been an insanely, insanely buggy area to quest in, and it really shouldn't be. It's been around long enough to be fixed, it's just not a priority for Blizz. I have nothing else to say, consider skipping this.

Easily the worst quest in the early game. Horribly designed, and everything about it is deliberately made to frustrate the player.

All that being said, I encountered a weird moment where the practically worthless friendly NPCs were attacking him just as the
enemy forces were retreating (despawning). As a result, this caused the boss NOT to despawn, he loses his personal guards, and
there were no other adds that could potentially aggro into the fight.

The Horde commends your successes against the Kolkar, but the Kolkar themselves are maddened. I have reports that a contingent of Kolkar has traveled to the Barrens from their home in Desolace, to seek vengeance. My latest report was that, even now, they move against these bunkers, from the west!

Face the Kolkar invaders, and end their threat in the Barrens. Kill them until their leader, Warlord Krom'zar, appears. Defeat him and bring me a piece of his banner as proof.
