This is part of a quest chain you start with Calia Hastings (68,51) in Theramore Isle.

The first quest is called "Traitors Among us"

After completing this chain I was able to pick up a new quest called "The Hermit of Swamplight Manor" from Sergeant Amelyn.

I cleared the island and the entire ship and did not find Gavis Greyshield. I did that twice.

Make sure when you kill him you are close to him. I made the unfaithful mistake of fear and dotting him and he ran all the way into 2-3 rooms away dying and aggroing 2 more NPCs on me.

Gavis Greyshield is at 76.2,57

He is in the captains quarters of the boat (similar to where you picked up the leaflets on the other boat). Just go down the stairs and take a right and another right.

the quest bugged 1st try and I didnt got the the objctive, if it bugs for you just make sure to do it again the respawn is fairly quick

Easy solo, lvl 35 pally. this quest is very good for exp, i went from 1/3 bar to 2/3 easily without handing the quest in!

yes, i did this quest as a lvl 41 rogue, INCREDIBALY easy and i had trouble finding him, however i did find him eventually and these are his EXACT cords : (76.2,56.9) Hope this helped :D

As a warlock, I just killed a mob standing right on the ship, used the eye to scout for Gavis and got him targetted, used my succubus (invisible of course) and sent her in there to attack him and she pulled him out without any more mobs.

Not sure if it was just a fluke, but he didnt attract any extra mobs on his way to me, nor did my succubus.

I tried to do this at 35.. they respawn crazy fast. I could take them down, but by the time i killed a third one, the first would respawn. just wait till 37.

Very easy as a stealther. There is a guy hiding in a cubby right before Gavis, be carefull for him.

Fairly easy to do as a 33 shaman with only 1 enchant and 4 quest/instance blues. Just pull them one by one, totem/shield/windfury up, and knock them down. The captain, being 38, made me use health spring and stoneskin and racial heal and mana pot, but I still got him down first try.

The best way to do this is to:

1. Swim to the boat at 76, 57
2. Go to the boat, and go down through the door and then down the stairs.
3. When you're at the bottom of the stairs, kill any neccesary people and then go underneath/behind the stairs, but one floor lower.
4. You'll see the guy you need to kill, just attack him and get him to quarter health, and then he'll surrender and you'll get your quest update.

my oppinion is when you get done fighting one wait for a while untill you see the loot icon blink then you loot it and you can get it in your first 4 fights you can get them all

An easy way to find the boat is to go to the dock that has the boat that goes to Menthil Harbor and jump off that and swim just a bit south and you'll see the outline of it

you have to go easy on him. If u nuke him down to like 1-10% it wont work. just tap him down till it gives the complete

Just helping..
i did this as a 35 druid.
and it was pretty easy all i did was run on the boat and die on purpose..then resurect right where Greyshield is..
then go into cat form and chip at him.
everytime health gets low just heal yourself..
then run out of the boat..lol

37 fury warrior, 1% in about 4 1/2 seconds, didnt get quest, had to run out and get back in, and use just my main hand sword, to not kill him too fast.

i was at the bottom floor but i could not get to him. I simply couldn't find the way to him so i wrote /target Gavis and then i have sent my pet to atack him, my pet is smarter then me and he found him :)

Whoa! Be careful. It's not over when he surrenders and asks you to spare his men. You still have to get out and his cohorts remain hostile. It was an easy quest as a 37 druid until I ran into a buzzsaw after he surrendered when I ran back into the main room at half strength and four of 'em jumped on me. Cost me a health pot and a moment's anxiety.

Also I found him in the main 'captain's quarters' on the second deck, not all the way down. Probably spawns both places at times.

Lvl34 Warlock w/ Voidwalker got the job done. Swam to boat at 76,57 from dock at Theramore Isle. Climb onto the tiny island, and there's a couple of lvl37 guys to fight, then up the gangplank and no problems with about 8 more lvl37s, just keep 'em dotted, feared and drained as you go. Garvin is in rear lower cabin. Don't worry about killing him. I had him dotted 3 ways with Void beating on him and a Firestorm pouring down. Damage all stops automatically when he gets to about 25%, he gives up and disappears. And you're done. Run back and turn in quest. I got 4300 exp and a great cloak. However OMG! what a total black op brainwashing training scenario for all aspiring mindless govt Nazi's. In real life I would have been fighting with these guys, not killing them.

This is a tough quest if you aren't ready. The respawn rate is pretty quick, so be careful if you have a tendancy to back up when fighting mobs. If you are careful you can do this quest in the mid-30s, and groups in the low 30s could probably pull it off without too much trouble. The whole chain is nice because it is so close to town, not a whole lot of running around to work through each step.

You can see the ship and small island if you look southeast from the end of the docks.

The respawn rate is so fast that by the time you corpse run they've all respawned.

The trick of rezzing in his room is the safest, and though you start with 1/2 HP, you can down him.

I then Astral-Recalled out : ) Set your hearth if you are lazy.

I was able to solo this as a 33 Warrior. Just make sure you single pull each of the 37s, then once you get to Gavis, hit Retaliation and try to down him as fast as possible. Getting out is real easy too, just run to the top and jump off the boat.

I just did this 1 minute ago on my level 34 night elf Rogue. I just sneaked (snook?) in and raped him, gotta love evasion + cold blood. ^^

Go to the end of the dock and you can see the boat to your left. Swim to the little island (there are no mob in sea to attack you in this stretch). There are three mob on the island. You can avoid them by going to the far right side and carefully mounting the wooden walkway up to the boat.

All mob Deserters are lvl37.

Once on the boat there are three wandering Deserter mobs. Pull them to the top of the walkway one at a time. third on top deck can be left. Make your way to the door down on the far right side from walkway (once on the deck it to the left side). There is a mob close to the door who pats back and forth (they all do). Go down steps and enter door to your right inside boat. Another mob patrolling there.

Be aware that these mobs fear close to death and often aggro another mob close by. So try to kill fast when their hp are low. Also, their respawn rate is pretty quick so keep killing and moving on. YOu will probably have to claer on the way out too if it takes more than 2-3 minutes. Or set hearthstone to inn in Theramore to us when you are done.

On this middle deck do not go through doors in front of you which leads down to bottom deck. He is not there. Instead turn right and enter through the door there, doubling back on yourself. You will see Gavis Greyshield through a far door and there is a mob to your right. Either kill him first, or sneak past him to and attack Gavis Greyshield from the back of the boat and the mob will not aggro. Gavis Greyshield does not run as he surrenders as low hp.

Once you get him to low hp he surrenders and the mission is complete. He emotes some dialogue and vanishes. Be aware that he respawns rapidly so don't hang around ! Use hs to inn if set or get out quick.

Finally back to Calia Hastings at to hand in. Remember you can't get back onto docks so just swim to where you can climb up bank near her.

Rewards confirmed as 4.6k xp, 80s and +350 rep with SW.

Overall this is an easy quest line giving a lot of xp and rep with SW. The only harder bit are the mobs aggroing on the boats. Just deal with them one by one and it should be ok.

The island isn't on the map, but it's due east of the city, you can't miss it. Greyshield is downstairs. The layout is identical to the ship where you get the propaganda; he's in the captain's quarters.

The mobs on the ship are all 37-39, no elites at all. I had no trouble with this one.

Now that we've eliminated the deserters from Theramore, it's time to complete this operation. My local contacts have reported that the deserters base their operations in a ship moored on a small island to the southeast of the docks.

Arresting their leader, Gavis Greyshield, should cause the others to lose their will to fight. Find him within the ship and convince him to surrender. I wouldn't be surprised if he puts up a bit of a fight for show, but then surrenders when he understands he can't win.
