The gulch, located directly to the west of the quest giver (other side of the path) has 2 mobs. The first is the small "snakes" that have a % chance to drop the quest item. The second are the large subterranean wurms that have a 100% chance to drop the item. Therefore I recommend merely killing the small wurms to make your way to the moving piles of 'dirt' on the ground to fight the larger wurms.

Large worms do not have a 100% to drop rate, as the previous poster mentioned, it's high but not 100%.

This may be just my luck, but I couldn't get a single quest item to drop from the larger ones. The young ones dropped them for me just about every single time.

Got drops from both little guys and big worms. Little guys seem easier to kill, no aggro problems and plenty of them.

It was on my 15th mob (4th Greater, and after 11 of the lessers) that I got my first drop, after that they started to flow nicely, though it still took about 35 total mobs to finish. Don't get discouraged if your experience is slower than those reported above...

from what I have been noticing in my other screen with the game up, the faster you kill them, the better the drop rate. The little ones are going down easily, but if they get their venom spit off, I am not getting the drop. if I can manage to burn them down before that happens, I have gotten a drop everytime.

For me the drop rate was not that great. I had to kill about 15 before I got the first drop. Good luck with it.

Keep in mind that the Young Crust Bursters evade after about 20-30 yards, so make sure you pull closely while you kill them. Pulling at max range (as an Aff Lock) got all my dots whiped by the time they reached me.

On the flipside, casting Howl of Terror when you get 2 or more on you absolutely removes you from combat after a couple seconds. This could also work for priests.

Here is the actually droprates; (from wowheadlooter info)

Greater Crust Burster = 42.9%
Young Crust Bursters = 32.5%

Therefor I found it much more relevant to look for the greater ones, although they are harder to find, than killing 50 young crust bursters.

I got 2 from the first 2 kills and were quite happy about the droprate untill it took me 15 kills to get the third! Then I got one on every 3. kill or so but the last one just wont come... Im at 10 kills for the last one now.

P.S. Best loc for grinding is around 48.43

Dont fear the mobs. if they get too far away they reset, and run back with full health.

As of 2.4.2, I did this in a total of 15 kills.

killed 4 greater worms, who had a droprate of 75% for me
killed 11 young worms who had a droprate of about 30% for me.

Completed the quest in about 8 minutes.

Many at 47,45. I prefer you to kill the big crust busters first because they got higher drop rate. (Atleast for me). I've got everything I needed within 20minutes, annoying quest , but it is quests that are more annoying then this. Good luck in outland and specially with this quest.

I'm a hunter and they all dropped for me and i killed all sorts young and greater, also there was no looting bug for me, i used ranged the whole time and still got them, also i dont know about the halfway through poison spit i cant imagine them all being mid attack fairly easy quest. I dont know if they fixed most of the bugs but some of them keep evade bugging.

killing the young crust bursters...first 3 kills gave me 3 drops.
killed another 17, no more dropped.
killed another 3, 3 dropped!
killed 2 more then last one dropped..

Nerfz's location is right. 54,47-48,42. A dozen kills should get you all 7.

By the end of the quest I had killed 52 of the Young ones, and 10 of the Greater ones.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I noticed on the last 4 drops I got, they were all on kills when they Burster was mid-cast on his poison. It could be just a hunch, but it would be nice if someone could comment after they have done the quest and looked to see if its true.

If you are a hunter (or warlock?) I suggest fighting these
up close, instead of using ranged attacks. You can still
use the pet.

Hunter's usually grind using ranged attack, with pet
keeping aggro. But it seems there are a few mobs in
the game that won't drop their "quest" item for you
if you weren't meleeing them, only range-shooting.
I could be wrong (it's all random) but I think these
work that way.

Reason? I got zero drops in 15 kills using ranged.
Then I switched to melee and got 1 for every 2 kills.

The young ones dropped just as good as the big ones.

Loc of 47,45 was good, and drop rate was bad at first 20 kills to get 1st one then the rest came somewhat fast, the last 6 within 10 kills.

around 49 42 there's some Young Crust Burster, drop rate is really low on them.
Greater Crust Bursters also drop them, with higher drop rate

FWIW, the Crust Bursters in Terokkar are lower level and also drop the Venom Gland if you have this quest. Drop rate was 5 of 5 for me (I already had 2 from about 12 kills in BEM). If you haven't done the quest in the Bone Waste called "Fumping," go back & do it and kill two birds with one stone.

Cords are good 45,47

Killed about 10 before getting first drop. After that they dropped every 2-3 kills, I recommend just killing the young ones. I killed a couple of the Greaters and didn't get a single drop of them (they do drop). The greaters are more annoying and harder to take down so just kill the young ones.

Coords: 50,40 -- Lots of Young.

The larger/greater Crust Bursters can "bug" out, no pun intended, and you cannot loot. While they have a higher drop rate, don't hesitate to focus on the lesser/smaller Crusts.

Drop rate was mediocre, I killed 14 total. The greater ones seem to have a noticably better drop rate of 3/4, and the young ones had 4/10.

Heads up!
I should have studied the WoWhead map more carefully before I set out to do this quest. Both Questie and Carbonite will direct you to the Bonewastes where there is a scarce few Crustburster mobs patting around the huge circle and I ended up flying around forever, wating for respawns. Suspecting something was really wrong here, I went back to this page and saw the actual intended farming area. So... Questie lies on this one.

Baron Sablemane has told you to bring him 7 Crust Burster Venom Glands. Return to him at the Circle of Blood in the Blade's Edge Mountains once you have procured them.

Very well, I'll create this trap, but first I want something in return.

There happens to be a nearby gronn that is in possession of an item that I want, but you can't face him, not yet anyway.

So, you and I are going to fashion a sleeping powder from the poison of the nearby crust bursters.

You'll find them in the Churning Gulch to the southwest. Bring me a number of their glands, and be quick about it!
