Be sure to kill the spirits in Netherwing Fields, the ones at Netherwing Pass does not give credit even though the animation plays.

I found that the Netherwing Pass spirits would give credit up to the last one and then I had to go to the Fields to finish.

Yeah stay in Netherwing Fields, i wondered out by say 20 metres to kill the ones just outside, and I didn't get credit.

Alright, I had the same problem. Got stuck after the first one even. Killed about 20 after, but no luck.

Problem was solved like this:
- After each (credited) kill, move away from the totem till it's out of sight.
- Move back to that position, if the totem has disappeared you can continue to the next mob.

This helped me and every mob since gave me credited kill.
One thing though: do NOT loot before you get the credit.

Worked perfectly for my group. Even with the totem in sight and/or more than one totem on the ground...not sure why it wouldn't work for you guys. This included the Netherwing Pass elementals as well as Netherwing Field.

Quest has to be done at Netherwing Fields, you can capture spirits there. It was "bugged" for me as well untill GM assisted me with where it should be done.

More specifically, the issue is that spirits in the southwest portion of Netherwing Fields don't seem to be flagged to give quest credit. Until it's all nice and fixed, focus on the elementals in the northeast part of the fields.

If you find that you are only getting credit for kills in Netherwing Pass, and not in Netherwing Fields, or vice versa, try kiting mobs from the area where the quest is broken for you to the area where the quest works, and kill them in the working area.

You only get credit if you are in Netherwing Fields.

OK, well i didn't read the quest properly & ended up killing them all just north/northeast of the Altar of Sha'tar while I was farming for motes.

Worked fine there, didn't matter if I looted them while they were being zapped or not (I always dropped the totem during or before the fight). There might be a bug with Netherwing Pass, but you don't have to kill them at Netherwing Fields.

What I found as the source of the problem is the quest tracker. I would get one update, then not get credit at all until the tracker timed out and went away. The very next kill it came back. So, I started turning off the auto-tracker after each credit, and it works just fine. I had to do this quest on three characters to figure out this stupid bug. I did it all over the place too, not just in the fields and whatnot.

I was in the pass and there where a ton of farmers there so i placed them all over the place and 3 min later i was done with the quest, never had a problem with not getting any or capping at a certain point

Very Strange for me I only killed the Air elementals in the Netherwing Fields for the quest but i seem to capture 2 airy souls per elemental killed... Obviously still some bugs here, mind you i'm not complaining.

OK. Heres an awesome trick to finish this faster. If you place 2 (only tried with 2) totems down, and then kite or pull them to the 2 totems, you will get double credit, since BOTH totems will register one kill. Haven't tried this with the rock/fire/water elementals, but the air ones it works with.

Also, the elementals in the pass work too.

Have noticed recently that you dont even have to put two totems down, if u put the totem down then you get two spirits anyway... makes the quest half as long, but I'm assuming blizz will fix it at a later date.

This quest is still bugged. My first three kills counted for two kills each (with only ONE totem down, two mobs from the field, one from the pass), the next was just one (from the field), then the next two again, then killed one more to finish quest. I only killed 6 mobs to get my 10 kills. Go figure.

Dont know if it is a bug or what but at the fields i got credit for one kill but at the pass i got credit for two when i killed only one.

My first kill with the totem down counted as 1 kill. Without the totem, 0. After the first kills, with the totem, I was getting 2 kills each.

I killed like 10 of them with no credit and than killed an 11th and got 10 caps off the one mob O.o

I only had 1 totem down and was getting 2x credit

I didnt have to kill any, people were farming them so i threw down totems everywhere and reeped the benifit :]

how am I the only one concerned with the level 69 elites flying everywhere?! How is it possible that not a single person has so much as mentioned them? I don't know the answer to either of those questions, but it's definitely worth mentioning that they don't attack you, and it's a good thing they don't.

This quest confused me with everyones cool solutions for how to accually get the souls, so I made some research of my own by doing it several times, in total killing 100 spirits.

The fact is, it doesn't matter where you kill them, wheather you put the totem down before or in combat, wheather you loot or not. It also won't stop at a certain number, or matter if you have your questlog up or not. There's not timing to it, and it really doesn't matter if you fart or not before putting the totem down.

Just think of it as a droprate. Sometimes it drops, sometimes it doesn't.

as of 11-24 it has been fixed, one kill one spirit, it still only works in the fields not the pass, alliance becareful lots of horde farm this area.

dropping 2 totems doesn't seem to work now. Also you must kill them in Netherwing Fields to get credit for them.

I can confirm that you don't need to tag them to get credit though, so follow farmers around and its easy :)

Just a heads up, you don't have to kill them to get the soul. I just followed around a 70 hunter and leeched off him, everyone was happy. Just a nice little thing to know what people are farming for primal airs or you kill things too slow.

You must kill the ones whilst in Netherwing Fields. If you try killing ones within Netherwing Pass or anywhere else although you will see the animation they will not be counted. You can pull them out of Netherwing Pass into Netherwing Fields and they will be counted though.

I've captured several souls with the totem in various places in the valley and the animation plays, but it doesn't count against my quote total. I was hoping this would be fixed by now, but I'm going to drop it out of my quest log.

yea its still screwed up and even after reporting it to a GM I was told it was not messed up and that it was because I was in a raid group. When I then said NO IM NOT, I was told it was because of a mod I had. Even though mobs were sticking, not lootable, dissappearing before I could loot or vanishing as they died. Not to mention the souls going into the totem but not counting but hey ITS NOT BUGGED, ITS NOT BLIZZARD, ITS ALL US.

Would hate for the GMs to have to actually do the job they are paid to do instand of sitting there diddling a basketball all day.

Just kill the ones in Netherwing Fields (the field with the large crystals). If you kill any while you're in that little valley to the south, they won't be counted.

If you go outside the Netherwing valley, your kills will not count. In order for the kills to count stay inside the valley. The spawn rate is rather low but each kill counts.

Just make sure you're where the crystals are. They're just inside Netherwing Pass and in Netherwing Field. If you go too far into the pass, they won't count. The farthest you should go into the pass is about 61,65.

Edit: The entrance to Netherwing Pass is 62,62 and you can go as far as 61,66 into it. If the elementals are beyond the three crystals near those coords, they won't work.

This one I did with a full party because we happened to be working on other things at the time and ran into the problem of not getting credit for the soul captures as other have mentioned here. The problem that we found was that we were letting the hunter pull, but he did not have the quest so being first to score damage seems to matter. If one of the two of us that had the quest pulled, then we always got credit even as far out in Netherwing Pass as the alter with the ghost npc in front of it.

I was getting two per kill then one time I was standing near my totem looking for the next kill and I got credited for two more. That was 4 for 1 kill.

Bugged at this moment, ticketed a GM and got a standard reply that they were gonna look into it.
The animation shows the spirit being captured, but the counter remains at 0/10.

I had no problem at all whit this quest, I killed 11 those elementals just north from The Altar of Sha´Tar (61,20). First kill didnt count just cause I Forgot to put totem and crited whit aimed shot 3500 just b4 I was going to put the totem.

OK heres the skinny

In fact if you go too far south it WILL bug the quest. Blizz support gives the usual lame as "we are aware of it" reply.

How to avoid the "bug" which is not really a bug, just more programmer stupidity:

Watch your location. If while you are doing the quest you loacation changes to Netherwing Ledge or Netherwing Pass, you are now killing the wrong critters, even though they are identical in every way to the ones you are supposed to be killing- even in name.( In fact I did get credit for a few of the kills in the pass, but then it locked out at 6 kills ad wouldnt credit any from anywhere...)

I chatted with Customer Support at great lengths on this. I am still convinced Blizz hires people directly from Barrens Chat or Shattrath Trade...

After my 7th attempt I was able to complete the quest. If you notice your totem collecting souls, but them not crediting to the quest, go north again. You must be in the Netherwing Fields zone to get credit.

Yes you may have to wait for respawns. How ever, you can collect souls from other peoples tapped mobs, just plant your totem and wait...lol

I've killed about 15 before my counter read 7/10. Killed and counted in both the Pass and Fields, however, the closer I got to the shadow guy who gives quests, the less likely the kill counted.

You must kill them in the right area. If you are in NW of or near Altar of Shadows, the kills won't count. You need to be at least 1/3 way NE into Netherwing Pass from AoS for the Airy Soul count.

Sometimes even the kills inside the valley don't count for some reason

I understand the idea of not killing in the wrong place, but I was clearly in the valley, killing mobs that spawned in the valley and capturing with a totem that was placed in the valley

Most of the mobs there are fine but in the western part there are some issues

I too have this issue. When reported to a GM was told that they had not heard of the issue and would send it on to development. And that they would NOT let me know when it is fixed. How lame are both of those answers. Bronzebeard server.

I don't think this quest is bugged...if you go too far south into Netherwing pass, the air elementals there aren't the ones you're looking for. I made the same mistake last night, before I realized it.

By the way, quest reward has an awesome upgrade for Rogues, the leather belt. It's armor rating was about 150 higher than my current level 68 belt.

This quest is not bugged, just make sure you are killing at the right place. I started killing at the fields outside the passage, and it counted nicely. I worked my way through netherwing thingy and it suddenly stopped counting. So i went back to the fields and it counted as intended again.

I also made sure i put the totem down before i started killing, and also had a new totem for every kill. Shouldn't really mather i guess, but when i started doing that and went back to the fields it all worked..

Venture southeast, hero. When you see fields of gigantic blue crystals jutting out from the land, you will have reached your destination. It is there, at the Netherwing Fields, that you will find the enraged spirits of air. They roam the cliffs and mountain bases that surround the fields.

Destroy their tortured forms and capture their souls with the totem of spirits. Return to me when this is done.
